Pat heard the alarm sound and tapped the button on the screen of his phone with his finger to silence it. He was tempted to stay in bed, but while he’d been stuck at home with Covid he’d made a commitment to himself to lose ten kilos and increase his level of fitness. Since his recovery, he’d been starting his day at five-thirty with a brisk five kilometre walk, followed by a thirty minute exercise regime, if he counted his rest breaks, and doing his best to consume less refined carbohydrates and red wine. He’d read somewhere that you had to stick to a new routine for thirty days for it to become a habit. Seeing it was only day four, he rolled out of bed and headed for the ensuite.
