Margaret was sitting on the verandah of the house with Erica, where they’d eaten breakfast in the cool morning air. She heard the helicopter before she saw it. It was quite high in the sky. The noise became louder as it approached and passed overhead, before continuing on its way without stopping. She thought it looked like the police helicopter and wondered where it was going. It would hardly be looking for her, since, as far as the world knew, she was dead. She noticed several men standing in the yard looking up at the disappearing helicopter, some of them through binoculars.
