Chapter 30

When Ethan made his suggestion, the other candidates nodded in agreement. If they could do well on a harder director's exam, cheating on the regular exam would be out of the question! Soon, Roger got another set of exam papers. Right now, Grace was a bit scared. She had assumed Sophia couldn't have done so well, but she didn't know if Sophia had cheated or not. Seeing Grace's scared look, Ethan handed her the exam paper first and said, "Grace, you and my wife graduated from the same school. Now, you're senior executives at Angel Group. I guess you must have more experience than Sophia. Why not take this exam together?" Grace's voice shook, "I-I..." Roger walked over too, looking coldly at her, "Didn't you hear what the master said? Start now!" With shaking hands, Grace finished the exam paper with nearly one hour. The other interviewers graded it and said, "Mr. Marina, Director Kline scored 58 points." Everyone gasped. They knew how professional Grace was. Her failure showed the exam was really hard. Ethan then handed a new exam paper to Sophia, his eyes filled with warmth, and asked softly, "How long will you need for this exam?" Sophia quickly looked over the paper, hesitated for a while, and said, "About half an hour." Ethan gently said, "Sophia, I'll give you twenty minutes. Is that enough?" Sophia was surprised out of his words. But seeing Ethan's trusting eyes, she nodded, "Yes, it's enough!" Everyone was shocked. Grace, with her expertise, nearly took an hour to finish the paper, but Sophia thought she could do it in twenty minutes. Was that really possible? Sophia didn't think much. She started the exam with 100 percent concentration. With all eyes on her, she had no chance to cheat. Someone whispered, "Oh my God, that's the Angel Group's director exam. Do you think she can really finish it in twenty minutes?" Someone doubted, "Who knows, maybe she's just bluffing. After all, so many people saw her cheat just now. Could they all be lying?" Everyone was curious about the results, except for Grace, who felt every second like an eternity. She wished the exam would never be completed. But time was irreversible. As soon as the twentieth minute arrived, Sophia raised her hand, "I'm done!" Seeing the sweat on Sophia's face, Ethan took out a handkerchief to wipe it off. He said softly, "Well done." Sophia, clearly uncomfortable with the public display of affection, blushed and grabbed the handkerchief to wipe the sweat herself. Ethan smiled gently and handed the exam paper to the examiner. Everyone widened their eyes and waited for the final result. Grace clenched her hands tightly. Her nails dug deep into her flesh, but she didn't even realize it. She screamed in her heart, 'Please, don't let her pass! She can't do it!' The examiner picked up the exam paper, glanced at Grace, and then said, "Mr. Marina, the results are in! Miss Harris scored 95 points on this test!" Bang! Grace's legs went numb. She collapsed to the ground with her face all pale. Everyone else was completely stunned, exclaiming in amazement! "95 points! She is incredible!" "She scored so high on the director's exam. Wouldn't our regular management test be even easier for her?" "Yeah, if Sophia is this amazing, why must she cheat?" Hearing the crowd's murmurs, Ethan turned his gaze to those who had adamantly claimed Sophia cheated and said coldly, "At this point, aren't you going to tell the truth?" The woman who spoke first burst into tears, "I was momentarily blinded by greed. I wanted to join Angel Group so badly that I tried to curry favor with Director Kline by slandering Miss Harris. It's all my fault. Miss Harris, please forgive me this time!" The others also regretted their actions. Their remorseful expressions softened Sophia's heart. Just as Sophia was about to forgive them, Ethan said coldly, "You think you can beg for forgiveness after making a mistake? Then what's the law for? What would have happened to Sophia you wronged if I hadn't arrived in time? Who would apologize for the grievances Sophia suffered?!" Ethan turned to the examiner and said coldly, "Lying to frame others out of personal gain is unforgivable! Roger, what do you think?" Roger spoke coldly, "We will record their information and notify the entire industry. Angel Group will issue an official statement, stating that any company that hires them will be considered a competitor of Angel Group! Inform the police to take them for a statement and then prosecute them for perjury!" Several sentences alone ruined their promising futures and made them face legal consequences! Roger pointed at Grace, "Master, how should we deal with her?" Ethan calmly replied, "Do I need to teach you how to handle your own people? Deal with it yourself." Roger nodded with a flash of ruthlessness in his eyes, "Understood." Roger announced loudly, "Grace acted out of personal gain by slandering others and almost caused the group to lose an excellent employee. From now on, Grace is dismissed from her position! Take her to the police station, find the best lawyer, and sue her for defamation, perjury, and damaging another's reputation and disrupting the company's operations." Roger then walked over to Grace and whispered, "Grace, I'll ensure the lawyer does a good job. You might spend the next ten years in prison if everything goes well!" Grace's face turned pale, "Sophia! We're friends! We were in the same dorm! Please save me! Save me! No! Please!" Watching Grace being dragged away by the security, Sophia felt a mix of emotions. 'Do people really let jealousy and hatred blind their hearts?' Roger's voice broke the silence, "Miss Sophia, congratulations! You passed the Angel Group's director exam. As the founder of Angel Group, I invite you to become the Executive Director of Angel Group and possess company stock dividends." Seeing Roger's expectant gaze, Sophia shook her head. "Mr. Marina, thank you for your kindness, but I choose to decline!" Upon hearing this, Roger became anxious. "Miss Harris, is there something you're not satisfied with? If the director's position doesn't suit you, you can go for the position of vice president." Sophia glanced at Ethan, hesitated for a moment, and then said, "No, no, Mr. Marina. You've misunderstood. I don't need your promotion. I want to prove myself with my own strength rather than rely on anyone's protection!" Despite being a delicate girl, Sophia possessed indomitable resilience in her blood! As they left the Angel Group building, Ethan stretched and said, "Roger wasn't doing me a favor. You really passed the director's exam on your own merit!" Sophia nodded, "I see." Ethan could tell that Sophia was in a good mood, but he was puzzled. "Then why did you refuse his offer?" Sophia replied firmly, "Because I don't want to give anyone any reason to slander me! Ethan, if I can pass the Angel Group exam, I can also pass any company's executive test. I believe I can build my own career through my own efforts!" Seeing the radiance on her face, Ethan nodded gently. He wouldn't try to persuade her because Sophia wasn't someone who could be caged. And it was this independent and strong Sophia that Ethan was deeply captivated by. This self-reliant and determined Sophia had a unique charm! "Ring, ring!" Suddenly, the phone rang. When Sophia answered, her face turned pale. "What? My dad is in trouble?!"
