Library job interviews didn’t require suits for women, but the general advice he’d gotten in library school was to stick to suits if you were a man, so he pulled out his dusty undergrad baccalaureate suit and got it dry-cleaned on Wednesday. He washed his hair, shaved, and ironed his white button-down. He even shined his shoes, borrowing his father’s shoe polish and brush.
