Chapter 11: Clues in the Dark The midnight rain pounded against the windows, like a silent warning. Ava Black sat at the long laboratory table, gripping the crucial blood sample in her hand. Her breathing was slightly rapid, her mind still echoing with the confrontation with the Chief Judge—the cold eyes, the suffocating threat. Jack Morrison sat across from her, tense, fingers tapping on the table as if waiting for a signal. “We can’t let our guard down,” Jack said quietly, his voice unusually clear in the night, “he might have other plans. What we’ve seen is only the tip of the iceberg.” Ava nodded, her fingers tracing the surface of the blood sample tube. Her ability told her that the case was far from over. The blood sample warmed slightly, as if signaling that new clues were waiting in the shadows. “I can feel it,” Ava said, her voice low and determined, “his presence isn’t limited to this city. There’s someone else—he might be helping him, or… it could just be his shadow.” Jack frowned. “You mean an accomplice? Or someone manipulating us from the shadows?” Ava closed her eyes, and images from the blood appeared in her mind: a stranger on an unfamiliar street, moving quickly under dim streetlights, carrying files and a small toolbox. The person’s aura was cold, resembling the Chief Judge’s strategy but with noticeable differences—like a skilled assistant, or perhaps the next threat. “We need to find him,” Ava said softly, her eyes firm. “If we don’t stop him, he could destroy the evidence ahead of time.” Jack nodded and immediately began checking surveillance footage, traffic records, and case files. The laboratory screens flickered red and blue, numbers and images forming a complex web. Every click of the mouse was a probe into the unknown threat. At that moment, the lab door creaked open, and a cold wind blew in, carrying the damp scent of rain. Ava’s instincts screamed danger. She gripped the blood sample, sensing the subtle shift in the air. “Ava, watch out!” Jack shouted, quickly standing, his flashlight sweeping toward the door. Yet, the doorway was empty. Only raindrops slid down the window frame, making a faint sound. Ava frowned; the blood sample trembled slightly in her hand, as if responding to an unknown signal. “Someone is watching us,” Ava said quietly, tension barely noticeable in her voice, “not just the Chief Judge… but others as well.” Jack drew a deep breath. “We have to act and find the clues, or we may never gain the upper hand.” Ava nodded. She placed the blood sample in her palm and closed her eyes, merging her consciousness fully with her ability. Images flashed in her mind: streets, shadows, moving figures, files about to be discovered. Every detail magnified, every breath calculated for the next move. Suddenly, a familiar figure appeared—Jack, at a street corner talking with a stranger, looking puzzled. Ava’s eyes snapped open, her heart tightening. “Jack… did you see him?” Jack blinked. “What did you see?” Ava described the scene in her mind, realizing that the stranger’s toolbox could be used by the criminal to destroy evidence or threaten witnesses. “We have to go there,” Ava said softly, determination shining in her eyes. “Now.” The rain continued to pour as Ava and Jack donned coats, grabbed flashlights and necessary equipment, and stepped onto the dark street. Rain struck their faces, mixing with tension and cold. The street was empty and silent, only distant neon flickers revealing two determined silhouettes. Ava’s heartbeat quickened. She could feel the faint glow within the blood sample guiding her forward, as if signaling: the next step will uncover an even greater secret. Jack whispered beside her, “Be careful. This might be more dangerous than before.” Ava nodded firmly. “I know, but we cannot retreat. Every clue could determine whether we can stop the next tragedy.” Rain dripped from her hair, shadows stretching along the street like countless eyes watching them. Ava clenched the blood sample tightly, flashes of the killer’s cold smile and the dark line behind him—an unseen trail of blood—guiding her deeper into the unknown. Jack looked at her, a trace of concern in his eyes. “No matter what happens, I’m with you.” Ava smiled faintly, feeling a surge of warmth in her heart. That trust and tacit understanding became her strength against the darkness. Their figures gradually disappeared into the rainy night, heading toward the unknown street. Nearby, someone in the shadows watched them, eyes cold and calculating. The blood sample’s glow flickered faintly, foreshadowing a storm yet to come. ****:****************,******。***************,************。********,*****************——******,********。***********,****,*******,*********。 “********,”******,************,“*********,*****,******。” *****,************。*******,*******。********,******,***********。 “*****,*************。”**********,“***,*******,**……******。” ******,“*****,***?***********?” ******,************:*******,******,**********,**************。********,**********,********——*******,**********。 “******。”*****,****,“******,**********。” ****,**********、*********。****************,***************。*******,**********。 ****,**********,*******,*********。**********,******。*******,*********。 “**,**!”****,****,***********。 **,******,**********,******。******,***********,************。 “*******。”*****,************,“********,**……***。” *******,“******,****,***************。” ****,**********,****,**********。********:**、**、*****、********。*********,****************。 **,*************——****,************,****。********,******,“**……******?” ******,“******?” *************,**********************************。 “*******。”*****,*******,“**。” ***,*******。*********,*********,*******。******,********。*******,***************,*********。 *******,*********************,*****:***,********。 *********:“**,**********。” ****,****:“***,*******。*********************。” **********,**********,***********。**********,************,************——*******,**********。 *****,*********:“******,******。” ******,********,*******,**********。 *************,***********。*****,***********,**********。***********,*****,***********。
