Chapter eight - You should bring a girl

2356 Words
Chase's POV: I spent another day with Bri. I wish I could do this all the time. Sadly, someone has to work. That includes her as well. For the past three days, I have been busy. After less than three weeks, my dad's famous gala night will be. This is an event. Here, people from his company come dressed up to chat and drink. It's well-known in town, and there are only two ways you can be there. First, you have to work for my dad. Second, you need an invitation. There is a security guard who will check for invitations. It's not my favorite event, but I go because of my parents. Dad puts a lot of effort into this. That's why my aunt and uncle might come too. They always get invites, but one year, they missed it. I don't want this to repeat. Mostly, that is because they are the only people I talk with. Well, Annie, too. I might go with her this year. Usually, I am always alone. That way, people won't think that I am in a relationship. For some reason, I believe that people expect this from me. That should be my decision. Honestly, I don't need to come with her. She will be there anyway. I better focus on other things. This gala night is once a year. I prefer to be with Bri that day, but I can't escape it. I don't want to disappoint my dad. Also, there is no excuse that I can use. If I say that I'm sick, my mom will get worried and come to check on me. That is not a good idea. I can't lie. I'm terrible at that. Well, I didn't tell them about Bri. That is because my dad won't like it. He might be furious. I don't have a problem with that, but he does. I still don't understand why he cares if the girl is wealthy. That shouldn't matter. The one that I see is not. This doesn't mean she is horrible. She is sweet and so innocent. I would love to have her for myself one day. I hope that this will happen soon. Another weekend without plans. My parents invited me for lunch. They will plan the guest list for the gala night. This is the list of people who will get an invitation. Everyone will come for free. After all, they all work for my dad. This means unlimited passes. I don't know why people care so much about this event. It's like the Met Gala, where all the celebrities go. The difference is that these people are workers. All I want is to get over with it. Hopefully, everything will end well. Currently, I am at home. I took a quick shower. Soon, I have to be at my parent's house. I don't know why they want me there. Honestly, I don't care who will come. I don't talk with everyone. I'm only waiting for my aunt and uncle. These are the only people with who I can talk about everything. Unlike my dad, his brother is not that strict with me. When I was ready, I took my car and walked out. Today it's sunny, and I don't want to walk under the sun. I knocked on the door, and my mom opened it. - Hello. - Hey, honey. Come in. - Thanks. Where is my dad? - In the kitchen. He is taking care of the list. - No surprise here. Are there unexpected guests? - Not really. - I bet he will invite journalists from different magazines. - He has stopped only with three. - What a shame. I thought they would be ten thousand. I know how much he loves attention. - I said, and my mom laughed - You are not wrong. - Hey, dad. - Give me a minute, and I will pay attention to you. - You have even six. - Ok, I'm done. What do you want? - Nothing. You invited me here. - That is because we need to talk. - I'm listening. - Let's eat first. My lunch is ready. - my mom said I helped my mom serve the lunch. I have no idea what this is, but it smells delicious. Maybe it's chicken. I see something like meat. We put everything on the table and sat down to eat. This tastes like heaven. I have learned to cook some things, but I will never be able to beat her. Mom is the best cook I know. - This is delicious. - Thank you. - Will you tell me why I am here? - Ok, son. You know my gala night is soon. - Yes, and? - I thought it would be nice for you to bring a girl this year. - What? Why? - Because you talk only with your aunt and uncle. It will be like a date for the night. - Dad, I don't want people to think I'm dating the girl. Whoever she is. - I think it will be nice for you to have a company. - my mom said - Ok, who do I have to bring with me? Any girl? - Yeah, why? - my dad asked - Because when it comes to girls, you have some expectations. - Well, there are some things. She has to be dressed well. Also, not to embarrass me. - Here we go. I'll see what I can do about that. - Make sure that she looks good. - I got it. You don't need to say it ten thousand times. - I'm saying it in case something happens. - Dad, I know what to do, ok? - Ok, I trust you. Please, don't disappoint me. - When have I done it? - It's not too late for that. - Can I see who is on your guest list? - Here, check it out. - Aren't these the same people from last year? - The last five are new. - I see three magazines. - People should talk about it. - Why are you so obsessed with popularity? - No, I'm not. - Are you sure? This tells me something else. - I said, pointing to the list - If you have nothing to say, don't say anything. - I better keep my mouth shut. - That's a good choice. This will be the same event as last year. I wish he could do something different. He uses the chance to talk with people and brag about himself. Also, this is not even a high-class event. These are workers who have a night out. The problem is that he wants a girl. From where should I get one? It can't be anyone from the company. Otherwise, the rumors will start. That's when I got an idea. She is the perfect girl who I can bring with me. The problem is that she might not agree to do it. Luckily, I can be very convincing. After lunch, I walked to Janice's house. She is my friend and good at transformations. I will need her help if the girl agrees to come with me to the gala night. I knocked on the door, and her boyfriend opened it. - Hey, Chase. How are you? - I'm fine, thanks. Is your girlfriend here? - Yes, she is. Come in. - Hey, Chase. What are you doing here? - I might need your professional skills again. - Might or will? - It depends on. - Sit down and tell me what is going on. - Dad wants me to bring a girl to his gala night. I have been thinking about one girl. She will need a transformation to fit in. The girl has never been to such an event and doesn't know how to dress. Can you help her? - I will, but will she come? - I haven't asked her yet. - Then why are you here? - To make sure that you will help me. Please. - It's ok. I will do my magic on her. How does she look? - I don't have a picture of her. - You can describe her. - Ok, I will try. Dark brown long hair with chocolate eyes and a perfect smile. She has the cleanest skin I have ever seen. The girl is innocent, like a little kid. - Man, if I didn't know you, I would say you are in love with her. - Jason said - What? - He is right. I haven't seen this girl, but she looks perfect. - Janice said - Well, if she agrees to come. - Let prince charming out, and she won't be able to say no. - I might do that. Thanks. - You're welcome. Now go and ask this girl. You don't have much time. - I know. I talked with Janice and Jason for a while. I'm glad that she will help me with this. Of course, I will pay her. No matter that the last time, she didn't want anything. This time, I will pay her. I went home to leave my car and walked out again. Where can I find her? I can ask a couple of people. She is probably working. The problem is that I have no idea where. Soon, I saw the two boys. They might know something. That is what I'm hoping for. I gave them twenty dollars each in exchange for information. - Boys, do you know where I can find Bri? - She is probably working. - I know, but can you tell me where? - I don't know the name of the store. It has a giant coffee cup on the logo. - What color is it? - White. - Thanks. I know where this place is. The boys described it perfectly. I walked there and saw a girl on the cash register. Maybe she knows if Bri is here. I might make her prepare me something. - Hello. - Hi. What can I make for you? - Is there another worker here? - Yes, why? Don't you like me? - No, no. I'm looking for someone. - Hold on. You are Chase Wilson. - Shh! I am an ordinary guy. - I said, and she laughed - Ok, I won't say anything. Who are you looking for? - Bri. - Really? It looks like I need to ask her some questions. I'll be back in a minute. - Who is here? - Hey. - How did you find me? - The boys helped. - What? Oh, I get it. Look, I'm working now. - When will you finish? - After three hours. - Go home. I'll tell the boss that you have stomach issues. - the other girl said - No, Charlotte, you can't do that. - I can. Go. - Ok, ok. I'll see you tomorrow. - We are closed. - I mean, on Monday. - Are you ready? - I asked - Yes. I took Bri to the same garden we were in a few days ago. I don't know how to ask her, but I hope she won't say no. We sat down, and I looked at her. I am nervous. I don't want to get rejected, but I don't want to force her. - Are you ok? - Yes, I'm fine. - Why did you want to see me? - Look, I want to ask you something. Before you give me an answer, think about this. - Ok, what is it? - Dad has his annual gala night after two weeks. This is an event where workers from his company come dressed fancy. Also, people with invitations can be there too. He chooses who to get them. Anyway. Usually, I go alone. This year, he wanted me to bring a girl. Will you come with me to the gala night? - What? Really? You want me to come. - Yes, I do. You have two weeks to think about this. It's more like one and a half. - Are you sure? I don't think I have to do it. Look at me. I won't fit in such a place. - Don't worry. I talked with a friend. She will do you the best transformation. - I don't know. I think this is a bad idea. Your father won't like it. - Who said that I would tell him? - But he will ask where you found me. - I will think of something. I won't tell him the truth about you. Relax. Everything will be fine. - It's better if I don't go. - Please, think about this. Don't you want to feel like the rest? It's only for a few hours. I will take you back home. - Why me? There are so many girls looking like you. - Because I don't like them. This is my choice. What do you think? - I will need some time. I don't know. - Nothing will happen. I will be with you all the time. - This doesn't make me feel better. - Please. - Ok, ok. Give me a few days, and I will tell you the answer. - Good. Can I still come to see you? - Don't do it at work, please. - Wherever you say. - Thanks. I talked with Bri the whole afternoon. Then I went to get us something for dinner. She gave me back the money again. I will never be able to understand her. I only want to help. Maybe it's better if I leave her to do what she wants. If this makes her feel better, I have no problem with it. I would like it if she accepted my invitation. She is the only girl I want to go to the gala night with. Well, I can't force her. That's why I gave her some time to think. Janice already said that she would help me. The only thing that is left is to convince the princess. I hope that I can be her prince one day.
