Bri's POV:
I got invited to a high-standard event. I'm not sure if I have to go. It will be good for me, but I don't belong there. These people are rich and elegant. I wear almost the same clothes every day. I can't afford to buy new all the time. I still wonder why Chase chose me. I'm sure he can go with any girl. If he invites someone else, they will immediately accept. The problem is me, not him. I don't want to embarrass him. Also, I don't think his dad will like it. Even if he doesn't tell him now, this man will understand one day. I can't let him get in trouble because of me. The other thing is that I have nothing to wear. I'm sure I have to be in a dress. One day after work, I passed by a mall. I only wanted to check the prices. There is no way I can afford that. This means I should give all my money. Then I won't eat for the rest of the month. That can't happen. Someone will say that Chase will take care of everything. I can't do that. He already did too much for me. I will never be thankful enough. Here is a thing. The food at the gala night might be good. I can stop eating sandwiches for a while. This doesn't cover the fact that I don't fit there. People will look at him and his ugly girl. It's his choice, but it doesn't make me feel better. Part of me wants to go. I have never been to such an event before. Maybe this is my chance to change my life a bit. I mean, even if it's for one night. Technically, it's a couple of hours. I don't know what to do. I still have a couple of days to think about this and give him an answer. It's not like he doesn't come to see me almost every day. It feels like he can't stay away from me. I wish it had been the truth. I hope that I will make the right decision.
Today, I have to tell Chase my final decision. I'm still not sure if I have to go. The thing is that it can't be that bad. Maybe I'm too nervous and overstressing. Everything will be fine. Also, he will be with me all the time. I don't want to end up alone with his dad. If he understands who I am, there will be a problem. That's why we should keep this away from him for as long as possible. I mean, at least until the end of the event. After that, I won't appear anymore. His son might come to visit me, but that's it. Nothing will happen.
Currently, I am working. I told Chase not to come here again. I have nothing against that, but Charlotte will ask me one million questions. Let's say that I still haven't talked with her about him. There is nothing I have to say. He is a good boy who talks to me. Well, with a famous and wealthy father. I will never fit in such a circle. It's not like I have tried. I don't want to do it. This place is not for me. I don't belong there.
- Will you finally tell me? You keep this for days.
- Tell you what?
- About you and Chase Wilson. How do you know him? Why was he looking for you?
- I don't know.
- Bri, come on. I'm dying to know. - Charlotte said, chuckling
- Can you keep a secret?
- Yes, sure.
- I'm serious.
- Me too. I won't tell anyone.
- We have met a couple of times outside. Mostly, that is after I finish work. I like night walks. Once, I saw him coming out of a restaurant. He was probably having dinner with his parents. Well, back then, I had no idea who they were.
- Now you know. Ok, but why was he here?
- I don't think I have to say this.
- Please. I'll keep my mouth shut.
- There is an event to which he wants me to go.
- The gala night? No way. I'm so happy for you. - she said and hugged me
- How do you know?
- This is Dave Wilson's famous event. Many people dream of being there. You are so lucky.
- I don't know if I have to go.
- Why? Chase Wilson invited you. Girl, you can't say no to him.
- Yeah, but I'm not rich. I mean, not as much as them. Also, I don't know how to dress.
- Oh my god. Stop worrying about this and say yes. Let him be your prince for one night. Who knows? Maybe one day, this will be permanent.
- Will you come back to reality now? We are talking about me.
- Everything will be fine. Besides, since he invited you, he saw something in you.
- Like what?
- I don't know. Maybe your perfect clean skin. Girl, how do you do this?
- It's natural. I don't have much time to take care of my skin. Neither my looks.
- All I will tell you is that you have to accept. This chance is once in a lifetime. We talk about Chase Wilson.
- Since you like him so much, why don't you go with him?
- Because he invited you. Also, I have a boyfriend. He is not that rich, but I still love him.
- Good for you.
- Please, go. Now, I will finally know what it feels like to be there.
- Ok, ok. I will think about this.
- Really?
- Yes. We have to work now.
- Do you see any customers besides these over there? The business is going slow.
- The problem is not ours. We only work here.
- Finally, you said something good.
- I can be a bad girl if I want to.
- I would love to see this.
Charlotte and I continued working. I can talk with her all day. There is no problem with that, but someone has to serve the customers. On the lunch break, I went to get us food. It's my turn today. I saw Chase and a girl on my way out of the store. He was about to come, but I made him a sign not to do it. I don't want to talk with him now. Also, I'm supposed to be working. I know why he wants to come. The boy needs an answer. That answer that I still don't have. I don't risk much, so maybe that is why I have to do it. That will be fun. This is except for the fact that I look terrible. I'm sure he can do something about this.
- I saw the way he looked at you.
- What?
- Chase when you were coming out of the store.
- Are you spying on me?
- No, I only looked after you.
- Really? Charlotte, I'm not stupid.
- Why don't you say yes? One of the best-looking buys our age is asking you out. You can't say no.
- I don't think he is my age. He looks a bit older.
- Chase is twenty-three.
- I am twenty-one.
- Two years. So what?
- I don't think I can do it.
- But you have to. Do you want to disappoint him? He wants to go with you, not with someone else. Use your chance. That might be the little push you need. I mean, to get you out of your comfort zone. Also, he is a nice guy.
- I will think about it.
The rest of the afternoon I spent working as usual. Later, I went to get something for dinner. Also, I need to find a place to sleep. The used-to-be hospital is good, but the building might fall apart soon. That night, I heard some noises. I was about to go for food, but someone grabbed my hand. Then he took me behind one building.
- Chase?
- Shh. I saw my dad around. Let's go now.
- He will find out one day.
- Yes, but it can't be now. Also, he is busy planning his magical event.
- How bad do you want me to go with you?
- What?
- Answer me, please.
- A lot.
- I can come with you if you stay with me always and don't leave me with your dad alone.
- Deal. So, will you be my date for the night?
- Yes, I will be your date.
- Thank you so much. - he said and hugged me
- You're welcome.
- Let's go to eat now. I know a place.
- We are eating in a restaurant?
- Yes, why?
- No, nothing. I have never been to one.
- Really? You will like it.
- You know I can't afford it.
- It's on me. You can take it as a gift. I'm in a good mood today. - he said, smiling
- It's visible.
Both of us walked to a small restaurant. I have passed by it many times, but I never got inside. The prices are not that high. With this much money, I can eat for almost two days. I don't know what to eat. Everything looks delicious. In the end, I ordered a chicken fillet with white sauce. I have no idea what this is, but it looks good in the picture. After half an hour, our food was here.
- You can enjoy this now.
- It looks so good. I can't believe I'm not eating a sandwich again.
- Do you eat only this?
- Well, I buy bread and a few other things. That's cheaper.
- Don't worry. There will be delicious food on the gala night.
- Chase, the only reason I agreed to go was you.
- This doesn't mean you can't eat. That is why people go there.
- There is something called manners.
- Well, this will be necessary for you.
- I know. I better prepare myself. There is only one minor problem.
- What is it?
- I have nothing to wear.
- Leave this on me. I told you that one friend would help me.
- Yeah, but still. I can't afford a dress.
- Why does everything have to be money-related?
- Because I don't want you to pay for everything. I know you have money, but it doesn't mean you should spend it on me.
- What if this is what I want to do?
- What?
- Nothing. Don't worry about the money, ok?
- That won't be easy.
- Take this as a thank-you gift.
- A gift for what?
- For coming to the gala night with me. I appreciate it. If I have to go with someone, you are the only one I will invite.
- Why?
- Because even with a hundred layers of makeup, no one can beat you. Not many people can look so pretty without any effort.
- You mean that?
- I do. You are very pretty.
- Thanks. No one has told me this before.
- Because they can't value it.
I can't believe that he likes me. He didn't say it, but why else would he say that I was pretty? Whatever the reason was, it made me happy. I never receive compliments. Maybe this is my sign to do something different.
After dinner, we walked around. I still don't know where I will sleep. It's not like I will tell Chase. I don't want him to worry about me. It's more than enough what he is doing for me. Our hands slightly touched. Why do I wish this was real? We are too different. This didn't stop him. He grabbed my hand and continued walking. Soon, we arrived in front of a caravan.
- Why are we here?
- This is your new place for tonight. I passed by the old building. You can't sleep there anymore.
- Look, I appreciate it. The thing is that you don't have to take care of me. I'll be fine.
- I want to do it, ok? It's not the best place, but it has a bed. Well, you can still come home with me if you want.
- Thanks, but I'm good.
- My offer is always available for you.
- It's good to know. How did you find this caravan?
- With my skills. I wanted to find you a place to stay without risking your life. I don't think someone will search for you here.
- Thank you so much. I don't know if I can return the favor, but I appreciate it.
- Hey, it's ok. I don't need anything from you. Maybe that is except for one thing.
- What is it?
- A hug. I want a hug from you. Can you give me one?
- Yes, sure. Here you go.
- Everything will be fine. I promise you. I will never leave you alone. - he said, whispering
- Thanks.
Chase stayed with me for a while. I didn't want him to go, but he can't sleep here. I could've gone with him, but I didn't do it. We better stick to who we are. I can be the princess for one night. Then, everyone will go back to their lives. I agreed to go only because of him. For some reason, I love spending time with him. Maybe that is because he does many nice things for me. I didn't make him do it, but I appreciate it. No one has ever treated me like that. I have no idea why this happened to me, but it makes me happy. It will be good if he comes to see me after the gala night. I hope that everything will end well.
