Chase's POV:
The interview with my dad went well. I'm glad that he was the star of the show. I wish I didn't have to be with him all the time. People started thinking that I was like him. It's not like I mind, but we are different. Dad cares too much about his reputation and revenue. I, on the other side, don't care what people think about me. As long as I don't embarrass myself, I will be fine. That is the only thing I want. I wonder how he and my uncle are so different. They are brothers but have nothing in common. Everyone who gets fired by my dad goes to work with my uncle. Maybe he treats his employees differently. I have never worked there. It was an option, but I couldn't go against my dad. That's why I was sure he wouldn't like it. Also, it would save me the trouble. I think both of them have what to learn from each other. The problem is that my dad likes to brag about his company. At least my uncle is not a competitor. For some reason, I think my dad is one. I don't know what else he wants. This man has everything. No other company can beat him. Here, we don't talk about money. He wants something else. I can ask, but I'm afraid to do it. I might not like the answer. The other thing is that I might take care of all this one day. The thought of it is scary. I don't know if I will handle so much work. Well, success doesn't come that easy. Everyone knows what my dad did to achieve it. When I take over, all the eyes will be on me. They will want to see if I can do the same as him. No one asks me if I will do it. It's not like I have a choice. For now, I can rest. Dad won't retire soon. That will help me for a while. Well, until I figure out what I want to do with my life. I hope that no one will put me under pressure.
It's the weekend. I plan to spend it with my uncle. All I want is advice from him. I need to be different from my dad without disappointing him. This is more complicated than it sounds. He won't get mad at me but won't like it. I'm trying to be good. The thing is that sometimes, being his son is hard. People expect too much from me. Everyone thinks that I will do what he did. I'm not sure if I want that. Hopefully, my uncle will be able to help me with this. I don't know what to do anymore.
I woke up but didn't get out of bed. I checked my phone. Since I have social media accounts, people message me a lot. Most of them are girls. I have nothing against them, but I want to choose the girl myself. After all, I will be dating her. It's not like I have been searching. Let's say that I have other things in my head. After some time, I decided to get up and eat. I took my things and went to my parent's house. Mom told me to come for breakfast. My uncle invited me for lunch at his house.
- Hey, mom.
- Hey, honey. What are your plans for the day? Your dad and I will go out. You can come with us.
- Thanks, but uncle Andrew invited me for lunch.
- That's nice. I believe you suggested it.
- Maybe. Please, don't tell my dad. I know he won't like it.
- It's too late, son.
- Oh, hi, dad.
- Hello. So you have lunch with my brother.
- Yes. Are you mad?
- Why? It's only lunch. It's not like you two will talk about business. You already know everything.
- We won't talk about that. I only wanted to see him.
- Have fun. Your mom and I have work to do.
- She told me.
- Do you need something? We can pick it up while we are outside.
- Thanks, but no. I already have everything.
- Ok, then. We are going out for dinner.
- Does this mean I have to come?
- It's not obligational.
- Ok, thanks.
I talked with my parents for a while. Later, they went to do some work. I stayed at home for about an hour. Then, I went to the closest grocery store. I can't go to my uncle's house with empty hands. It's not polite. He has told me not to bring anything when I visit him, but I can't do it. I bought a small cake, some biscuits, and candies. Then I walked to his house. He can afford to buy a bigger one, but he doesn't want to do it. Honestly, I agree with him. You don't need to spend much money on something to show how much you have. I knocked on the door, and my aunt opened it.
- Chase, hello. Come in. I haven't seen you in ages. - she said and hugged me
- Yeah, me too. I bought some things.
- We have told you not to bring anything.
- I know, but I can't come like that.
- Ok, let's go to the kitchen.
- Hey, uncle Andrew.
- Hey, boy. Look at you. It's like you keep growing every day. I don't see a señorita with you, so I assume you are still single.
- I am, yes.
- Sit down. For what do you want us to talk?
- I have a question.
- Go on.
- Is my dad's success bothering you?
- What? No. I'm glad he had so much luck.
- Good for you. It's getting annoying.
- Why do you say that?
- Because everyone keeps comparing me with him. It's like I am his copy.
- I don't think you should be surprised. You are his son. What else do you expect?
- I know, but we are different. I'm not like him. I'm trying to be a good person.
- You are one. I think you shouldn't care about this that much.
- I don't want to follow him everywhere he goes.
- I think you have to tell this to him. Not to me.
- As if he will listen to me.
- Maybe you two have to sit and talk. I don't know what else to tell you. This time, I can't help you.
- I thought it would be nice working with him.
- Don't tell me that you regret this. Dave might be many things, but he is a parent. His family always comes first.
- Are you sure? Sometimes, I think his job is more important than me.
- That is not true, and you know it.
- Why don't you two talk often?
- Because we are busy.
- Yeah, you pick up all his trash.
- What do you mean?
- Every employee who my dad fires, you take to work for you.
- That is because I want to give them a second chance. Everybody needs a job. Otherwise, you won't live well.
- You two will never work together, right?
- I don't think so. Let's say that we have different visions.
- Of course. Anything else? That's why I want you to tell me what to do.
- Oh, no. Please, don't make me do that. This is your decision.
- I'm lost.
- No, you work too much. Give yourself a break. I think you need it.
- We'll see about that.
I talked with my aunt and uncle during lunch. They are right about some things, but I don't want everything to be this way. I can do things on my own without my dad's approval. I guess not everyone thinks this way. It's not like this is that bad. Well, I wish I could show the difference between him and me. I don't think he will let me do that.
- Thank you for this lunch.
- It's ok. I'll always cook for you.
- I know it's a sensitive topic, but why don't you have kids?
- Because I don't want to. Look how many things I already do. I don't have time for this.
- Mom does.
- Yeah, but your mom is younger.
- With only five years. It's not that big of a difference.
- Five years can do a lot. Why don't you have kids?
- Because I am only twenty-three.
- It is that or because he doesn't have a girlfriend yet. - my uncle said, chuckling
- Very funny. You know that she has to be approved by my parents. Mostly, I mean my dad.
- Will your dad date the girl or you?
- Me, of course.
- Then why does he have to approve her? You are the one who will be with her
- Tell this to him.
- Does this mean that we have a candidate?
- Not yet. I don't have time for this.
- Maybe this will happen if you work less and start paying attention to the people around you. Why don't you take a day off and walk around the town? Alone. Without your parents. You can use the chance to talk with people.
- I don't know. He will ask what I will do.
- Don't tell him. Say that you don't feel well.
- Yes, and he will tell my mom, who will get worried. Great plan.
- Tell him that I have called you.
- Do you even know your brother? No matter what I do, he will ask for a reason and investigate everything. I can't do anything without him knowing it.
- That's because you taught him this way. He doesn't know what I do.
- Yeah, but you are a grown-up man.
- So are you. He can't do everything for you. There are some decisions you have to make.
- I know, but it's not that easy. We talk about my dad.
- No, we talk about you. Tell him how you feel.
- He won't understand that. Don't you think I haven't tried? Mom knows about it, but she can't do anything.
- I can talk with my brother, but you have to be the one who will say it.
- I'm not sure about this.
- In that case, no one can help you. I'm sorry.
- It's ok. I only came for advice.
- Well, my advice is to talk with your dad. I think you need this.
- Thanks. I might do this one day.
- It better be soon.
I stayed at my uncle's house for an hour. Then I went for a little walk. He is right about everything, but I can't do this to my dad. He will be disappointed. I know how much his company and his reputation mean to him. I can't do that. Everyone expects me to be like him. At the same time, I want to do things differently. I mean, my way. Sadly, I don't think this is possible. Maybe it will be when I take over the company. That won't happen soon.
After some time, I went to my parents' house. My parents probably came a long time ago. Now, my dad will want to know what I talked about with my uncle. I'm not sure if I have to tell him. He might understand me wrong. At the same time, we need to talk.
- Hey, dad.
- Hey. How is your uncle?
- He is good. Chilling.
- At least he had a place for you.
- Dad. Not everyone wants a big house, ok?
- For sure, he doesn't. What did you talk about?
- Causal things. I haven't seen him in a while. I wanted to know what he was doing.
- Well, his company is still alive.
- Why do you have to drag him down all the time? He didn't do anything to you.
- Look at him. He could've had everything but chose the poor life.
- Uncle Andrew is not poor. Maybe he doesn't make that much money, but he lives well. Unlike you, he doesn't like to show off.
- I don't show off.
- Really? The house, the money. All the things that you buy but don't need. Why is all that?
- Because I want people to see how powerful I am.
- There are many ways you can show it.
- I don't think you have to go back to that house.
- Why?
- I see your uncle's influence here.
- You know what? I went to ask for advice. Advice for you.
- Why?
- Because I don't know what to do anymore. You don't want to listen to me.
- That is not true.
- Really? I don't want to be like you if you haven't understood this. I don't want to go everywhere you do.
- You know that if I leave you to deal alone, you won't do anything.
- Maybe, but I will learn.
- If you say so.
That was. Nothing else was said. Maybe that is better. I spent at home the rest of the day. I only went to visit my parents for a while. I understand my dad, but he is wrong. I don't know what to do with him. If I listen to my uncle, he will say his brother influences me. On the other side, he is not lying. I need to talk with my dad, but this is a sensitive topic for him. I should probably discuss this with my mom first. She can tell me what to do. Some people don't have families, and I complain about my dad. Well, everybody has their problems. I hope that mine will get resolved soon.
