Chase's POV:
Hello, my name is Chase Wilson. My father is the well-known Dave Wilson. He holds the biggest company in town. Not everyone likes him, but he has gained some fame. I mean, he is rich and can afford a luxury life. It's not like he is doing it. Except for having a big house, my dad doesn't spend money on everything. I didn't want to go to university when I graduated high school. I asked him if I could work with him. The problem was that I had zero experience. I thought he wouldn't take me. Luckily, I was wrong. It took me time to learn everything, but now I know what it feels like to work in such a company. My dad bought me a house as a gift for my first year working with him. That was his idea. I kept it because I couldn't give it back. That is the only thing I accepted from him. I told my parents that I earned money. They didn't need to take care of me anymore. I mean, financially. I'm glad that they decided to listen to me. I will always ask them for help. The thing is that I want to take care of myself alone. One thing about my dad is that he cares about his reputation so much. He gets strict when it comes to this. If someone is about to do something or ruin it, this person might get fired. I have seen it happen. Then, they usually go to work for my uncle. He has a company as well. Let's say it's not as successful as my dad's one. I don't know why. They are brothers. I'm sure my dad could've given him some advice. Maybe he didn't want to do it. I know he likes to be on the top. Luckily, my uncle doesn't care about that. He is happy to have a job. I wanted to work with my dad because I knew he wouldn't like it if I had chosen my uncle. It's not like there is a difference. Both of them will teach me everything I need to know. I hope my dad will calm down so he won't care so much about his reputation.
Today, my dad has an interview for a magazine. He loves it when people talk about him. I prefer to be away from the spotlight. Sadly, I can't do that. Since I am his son, I have to be there with him. Sometimes, I wish I didn't have to do that. He is good at interviews and people asking questions, but I'm not. I don't think I can handle this. That's why I will leave my dad to talk. He can answer my questions, too. I won't get mad about this. Honestly, that will make me even happier.
I woke up and went to get ready for the day. I spent the night at my parent's house. Dad wanted us to go to work together. It's not like I mind. Well, there is no need for that. His interview is after three hours. He even left me a suit to wear. I have my own. Let's say that I didn't want to argue with him over that. I know how important the interview is for him. When I was ready, I went into the kitchen for breakfast. Mom was already dressed and ready to go out.
- Good morning.
- Hey, honey. You look amazing.
- Thanks. You too.
- Sit down. Breakfast will be ready in a couple of minutes.
- Ok, sure.
- Hello. Are you ready for the day? - my dad asked, looking at me
- Kind of.
- What is that supposed to mean?
- I will be good as long as you answer all the questions.
- You have no problem with that.
- Thanks.
After breakfast, all of us went to work. Everyone greets my dad when he comes in. If someone else does it, one or two people will pay attention. Also, I feel like I am treated differently because of him. I am working here like everybody else. I don't know why they can't understand it. I went to my office, and Annie came in. She is my secretary. I don't even know why I have one.
- Good morning, mister Wilson. Here are all the tasks and mail from today.
- Thanks, but we have talked about it. My name is Chase.
- I know, but your dad told me to call you by your last name.
- I will talk with him about that. What do you have for me?
- Many things. Here. I will leave this on your desk.
- Thanks.
- Do you want coffee?
- No, but you can make one for yourself.
- I had one at home. Call me if you need anything.
- I will. Thank you.
- You're welcome. - she said and left
I don't want people to call me by my last name. It only makes me feel more like my dad. We are related, but I don't want to be like him. I will look like his younger twin. No, thank you.
The interview was at 11 am. Dad will use the room for meetings. I don't want to go, but I can't disappoint him. I have to act well around people. It's not like I am a horrible person. I went there and waited for the person who would take the interview. Soon, my mom came. Please don't tell me this is a family one. That makes me feel even worse.
- Hey, honey.
- Mom, what are you doing here?
- Your dad invited me.
- Since you are here, can I go?
- Why? You know he wants you to be with him.
- But why do I have to go everywhere he does? I don't want to be like him.
- You didn't hear it from me, but all this will be yours one day.
- Why? I never wanted it.
- Because you are his only son, and he is proud of you.
- The only reason I didn't work with my uncle was him. I knew he wouldn't like it.
- I understand, but try to think about something positive, ok?
- It's ok, I guess.
My dad came after ten minutes with a woman. I have seen her somewhere, but I don't know where. I don't even know for which magazine she works. Right now, it doesn't matter. I only want to get over it.
- Hello. My name is Patriss. I will take your interview today.
- Hi. I'm Anna.
- I'm Chase.
- If you are ready, we can start.
- Of course. - my dad said
- Hello, everyone, and welcome back. Today, we'll talk with one of the most famous people and talk of the town, Dave Wilson. He holds the biggest company in the city. Tell me, Dave, how does it feel to be known by everyone?
- It's a good thing. Of course, not everyone likes me. I can't expect that. I'm trying to focus on the positives and do my job well.
- You are a multi-millionaire. Are you afraid that someone might try to sabotage you and steal money from you or your company?
- In my company, I work only with people who I trust. If I see that something is happening or someone is not acting as usual, I investigate everything. Sometimes, this person might get fired. Here, I work with honesty. I don't play games.
- So people who come here for interviews know what to expect.
- Yes, they do. The tasks we give them are not complicated. I want to focus on the personalities. People here should understand each other and work together as a team. Jealousy doesn't have a place in this company.
- Thank you. Chase, let's talk about you. Why did you decide to work in your dad's company? Your uncle has one, too.
- That is true, but he is my dad. I couldn't let him down. I had to work for him.
- Does this mean this is not something you wanted to do?
- No, no. It's not like that. It was an honor to work with him. I have heard many good things about my dad but refused to believe that people talk so nicely about him. Then I came here, and everyone proved this to me.
- One day, you will take over the company. Do you think you can handle it?
- I haven't thought about the future yet. I think I will do well. Of course, I can't be like my dad. In the beginning, I will need his help often. That will be until I learn how to do everything alone.
- Thank you for that. Let's talk about you, Anna. How do you feel sleeping next to a successful man every night?
- Honestly, he didn't have that much fame when we met. For me, Dave was an ordinary businessman. I don't know what happened later. He was getting more and more deals. I started wondering if this was real or a dream. Now, this is my everyday life. No matter how successful he gets, he will always be the man I saw for the first time. Nothing can change that.
- Do you think he got this success thanks to you?
- I haven't thought about that. I believe he would've been so successful, even without me. I am helping him with everything, but he does the hard work and makes the decisions. I have only given my opinion about this.
The interview was two hours long. I found some of the questions intimidating. Luckily, she didn't ask me anything else. All the attention was on my dad. I wanted to leave, but I couldn't. I will never be an ordinary boy. People look at me differently because of my dad.
After the interview, I went to buy lunch. I can make Annie do it, but I won't. She is my secretary, not my maid. I'm trying to be different than my dad. When I came back, I started working. This woman took enough of my time. I called Annie to help me with some things. I still haven't read the mail from the morning. That is how I spent the rest of the afternoon. When I finished here, my parents and I went to their house.
- I will prepare the dinner. - my mom said and left
- What do you think about the interview? It went well, right? - my dad asked me
- It was good.
- Why do you say it like that?
- Why do people always have to compare me with you?
- They don't compare you with me.
- Yes, they do. I am a copy of you. Dad, I don't want to be like you. No offense.
- You are not like me, ok? You are better.
- It doesn't matter. I will go and change.
- Will you stay here for the night?
- No, I will go home. - I said and left
I don't think my dad will ever understand me. We are not the same person. I don't want people to keep comparing me with him. Can't I be myself? It's not that hard. Sadly, I don't think that is possible. Maybe I should make something for that, but I don't know what. It's better if I don't think about this now. When dinner was ready, I went to the kitchen.
- Here you go, boys. You can eat.
- Thanks, mom. It looks delicious.
- I hope you will like it.
- You did well at the interview today. - my dad said
- Thank you. I tried my best.
- Don't you think some of the questions were personal? How do you feel sleeping next to a millionaire? What kind of question is that? I would never answer this.
- Honey, it's all business. If you are more open, more people will like you.
- So you did this to gain sympathy from people?
- Not exactly, but you can say it like that if you want.
- I can't believe it. Why would you do that?
- Because I want to help your dad. You did it, too.
- Yes, because that is what everyone expects from me. No one has asked me what I want.
- Ok, what do you want? - my dad asked
- To stop being compared with you. We are not the same person, ok? I want to be different than you. I thought it would be fun to work with you, but it's not anymore. It started getting annoying. I like the job, but not the things that come with it.
- Well, you have to deal with it.
- Why doesn't my uncle have this problem?
- Because his company can't be compared with mine. They are different.
- But he earns money too. Enough so he can afford to live well.
- This is about us. You are my son. I want you to take care of everything when the time comes.
- What if I don't want to do it?
- This is not your choice. Eat now.
- I get it, boss.
I talked with my parents for a while and later went home. I will never be able to change my dad. Sometimes, I think that he cares only about himself. I don't fit in the picture. After all, we talk about me. There is a long time until I take over everything. The thing is that I'm not sure if I want it. This is too much for me. Maybe I have to focus on myself. I don't want to be like him. To do that, I should start doing things differently. I know he wants that, but I don't. I might need advice from my uncle. At least he can tell me what I have to do. I hope that I won't hurt anyone with my decisions.
