Chapter twelve - I want to be with her

2364 Words
Chase's POV: Things started getting complicated. Dad keeps asking about this girl. I think he might be suspicious. The other thing is that he likes to know all my friends and the people around me. That way, no one will ruin his reputation. I don't care about this, but he does. I don't know what to do about it. If he understands who Bri is, I will be in trouble. She will be as well. I can't permit this to happen. It's enough that she lives on the streets and barely has food to eat. I don't want anything else to happen to her. She is my friend. It's not like I have told her. The thing is that I want more than that. I don't know if I will be able to talk with her. After all, I have never done this before. It's not that hard, but we talk about me. Usually, I don't get nervous around girls because I don't like them that way. With Bri, everything is different. She is different. I don't know what she did, but now I can't stop thinking about her. Mostly, I am worried. I don't know if she sleeps well or has proper food. I can give her all this if she comes home with me. Well, I know she will never do it. The guilt won't let her. Honestly, I don't understand why she wants to pay for everything. Some of them leave money for homeless people because they are good. It's not because they want their money back from them. Also, I don't think they will be able to return it. Maybe that is, except if something doesn't happen, and they get money. I don't want Bri to pay me for anything. Spending time with her is more than enough for me. I'm not sure if she will understand it. What I can do is be open and tell her the truth. I want to take her home, but she won't come. It's not like I will give up. This girl will be mine. The question is when. I would like it if it happens soon. I hope that I won't have problems because of that. Today, I plan to help Bri. I have noticed that she wears the same backpack everywhere. There is nothing wrong with that. Let's say that it's small and doesn't have much space for all her things. That's why I will buy her a new one and fill it. I will put clothes, food, and money. I won't give her much because someone might steal them from her. These things will be only for her, no one else. I don't know if she will accept my gift, but I will try. That is the only thing I can do for her now. Currently, I am at home. I plan to go to the mall. This place is not my favorite, but it has many stores in one building. I will buy everything from there. Before I left, I took a thousand dollars in cash. I don't know how much Bri's salary is, but this money should be enough for some time. Well, if she accepts it. When I was ready, I walked out. My first stop was a*****e that sells backpacks, suitcases, and wallets. - Hello. - Hi. With what can I help you? - What is your most spacious backpack? - Do you mean my biggest one? - Yes. - Here I have two. One is black, and the other one is dark blue. What will you put in it? - I plan to use it for traveling. I don't want to carry a suitcase if I go somewhere for a few days. - So clothes and essentials. - Yes. - They are the same size. The difference is the color. - Can I see the blue one? - Yes, sure. In the end, I bought the black one. It won't attract that much attention. Hopefully, Bri will be able to carry it when I fill it. My next stop was a clothing store. I don't know her size, but she looks skinny. Maybe the smaller sizes will fit her better. I bought two T-shirts, sweatpants, a hoodie, and a jacket. Then I went for an umbrella in case it's raining. Later, I went to my final destination. That was the food store. I don't know if she has favorite foods, but she can't eat only sandwiches. I didn't buy any meals because they would get cold. Also, they might spill on the clothes even if they are in a bag. I bought her two sandwiches, snacks, fruits, veggies, and sweets. I added two bottles with one liter of water. Well, I sneaked an orange juice. I found half a liter box with it. The last thing I did was to sneak the thousand dollars into one of the pockets inside. After I finished shopping, I checked the time. It was lunchtime. Bri might be working, but I can steal her for some time. That's until I saw Janice and Jason. I still haven't told anyone about Bri. The thing is that I'm scared my dad will understand the truth. - Hello, my friend. How are you today? - Janice asked - I'm good. - What is with the backpack? - Nothing. I bought it for traveling. - You will travel in a backpack. What is going on? - Nothing. - Chase, I know you. This backpack is not for you. Is it? - Can you keep a secret? - Both of us can. - Let's go for lunch. I didn't plan to tell her, but she won't leave me in peace. Also, Janice is my friend. I know she won't tell anyone about this. She helped me with Bri. I'm sure she will help me keep her secret too. - You can speak now. - I filled the backpack with clothes, food, and money. - Why? - Do you remember the girl that you dressed up for the gala night? - I can't forget the girl with perfect skin. - she said, chuckling - You can't tell this to anyone, ok? Otherwise, I might get in trouble. She too. - Chase, what is going on? No offense, but you are scaring me. - Bri is homeless. - What? You brought a homeless girl to your dad's gala night. Are you crazy? He will kill you. - That's why he shouldn't understand. - Hold on. Why is this a bad thing? - Jason asked - Because my dad wanted me to be with a wealthy girl. He needs to approve the girls around me. - Where does she live? - Janice asked - I found her an old caravan. At least it has a bed. - Really? - I asked her to come home, but she didn't want to. I only convinced her for one night. Then she walked away. - To understand that you want to help her. - Yes. - I will ask you something, but you have to be honest. - Ok, go on. - Are you in love with her? - What? - Are you in love with Bri? - No, I'm not. - He is lying. - Jason said - I know. - I'm not in love with her. - Chase, I saw the way you were looking at her. I mean, when I came to help you. I bet you find an excuse to see her every day. - You don't know anything. - What will you do? - I don't know. If I tell my dad, he might go after her. I can't let this happen. - Can I know how it happened? - I have no idea. I saw a girl sitting on the ground one day and tried to give her a hundred-dollar bill. I didn't have less. She got mad at me for that. - Interesting. I think you have to fight for her. It's visible that you love her. - I didn't say that. - You don't have to do it. I see it in your eyes. - What should I do? I don't want to lose her. - Always stay with her. That is what she needs. - Thanks. I spent some time with Janice and Jason. Then I went to search for Bri. She was working, so I didn't bother her. I went home for a shower and a small nap. When I woke up, it was 6 pm. It's better if I go out. I went straight to the caravan. I'm sure Bri will be there. I wish I could make her come home with me. That way, I don't have to worry about her. I knocked, and she showed up. - May I come in? - It's not like there is much space, but sure. - Thanks. How are you? - I'm fine. - I wanted to come earlier, but I saw you working. I know you don't want me to go there. - But you are here now. - Is your backpack here? - Yes, it's over there. - Can you empty it? - What? Why? - Please. - Ok, I will do it. Bri took all her things out. She had a few clothes and some food. I tried to stay still, but I failed. I pulled her close and hugged her. Today, I feel terrible. I don't know why. She pulled away and looked at me. - Are you ok? Why are you upset? Did I do something? - No, you have nothing to do with that. I woke up like that. - Can you tell me why I had to do this? - I already know what you will say, but I did it. - What did you do? - This is for you. - I said and gave her the backpack - It's heavy. - Open it. - Oh my god. There are so many things here. - It's not much, but I thought it might help you. - Why did you do that? I don't need it. - Yes, you do. I know you won't come home with me, so that is what I can do for you. - I don't know what to say. Thank you. - I also left you something in the small pocket. - What? No, I can't take this. I'm sorry. - she said and gave me the money back - No, this is for you. - Look, I can take the food and the clothes, but not this. I'm sorry. - Why? I know you need it. - This doesn't matter. I can't take it. - Please, Bri. You can do this for me. - No, I'm sorry. Anything else, but not that. - Anything? - That's not what I mean. Take this and go. - What? No, I won't do that. I bought this for you. - I appreciate it, but I can't take it. - she said and nodded her head - Why? There was no answer. I lifted her chin and saw the tears in her eyes. I have to see her like that. I carefully wiped them and pulled her for a hug. I feel useless no matter what I do for her. All I want is to take her home with me. If she doesn't come, I can stay here. I don't care where I sleep as long as I know she is safe. I kissed the top of her head, and she snuggled. I don't know what to do anymore. She won't come with me. Maybe I have to leave her. I can't force her to do what I like if that is what she wants. It's not fair. - Everything will be fine. I promise you. - You have to go home. - But I don't want to. Can I stay with you for the night? - What? Why? - Personal reasons. - I'm sorry, but no. You have a house. - But you are not there. - Why does it matter? - It matters to me. Please. - I don't know. - I will be a good boy. I'll do whatever you say. - I said, and she chuckled - This is not about that. You can't be here. What about your dad? - He doesn't know where I am every minute. Also, that is my choice. - Chase. - Please, Bri. It's only for one night. I have a terrible day. Right now, I don't want to be alone. - Did something happen? - I told you I woke up like that. - Yes, but maybe it's about yesterday. Did you do something? - No, I didn't. - Look at it from the bright side. - Which is? - Money can't buy happiness, but people can. Being with the right person is enough to turn your world upside down. - Are you talking from experience? - Yes, I do. Look at you. No one cared about me that much before. I don't know why you do it, but I appreciate it. - I did it for you. - Why? You can do so many things than being with a homeless girl. - But that is what I want. - Thanks. For everything. - I'll always be here if you need something. - I appreciate it. The rest of the night we spent talking. I don't know how she does it, but I'm always in a good mood when she is around. Bri kept everything from me except for the money. No matter what I try, she won't take it. I can use them to buy things that she needs. Bri can't say no to that. After all, I can't return it. I will think about something. Right now, I want to enjoy the time I spend with her. Maybe I fell too fast for her. Now, I can't think about anything else. The thing is that I can't tell her. I don't want her to reject me. Bri is the only girl with who I want to try. I hope that when I tell her, she won't say no.
