Chapter eleven - The aftermath

2357 Words
Bri's POV: Finally, this night has passed. I felt like a Barbie doll. The dress was pretty, but I don't wear things like that. It's like there was another person, not me. I'm not saying this is that bad. It wasn't something I liked. As good as the night ended, I needed to return to my life. I'm not wealthy. Luckily, people didn't notice it. Janice did excellent work on me. I met the famous Dave Wilson. He doesn't look that bad. I mean, I have never seen him before. I had only heard his name, but I had no idea what he was doing. Now I know why he was so popular. I have to say that his son doesn't look like him that much. I'm not talking about appearance. It's visible that he is trying to be different than him. It's all about what people will say. I don't think Chase likes being under the spotlight. I noticed people taking pictures of his parents. Maybe they are journalists or work in a magazine. It's not like I care. I'm glad he completed his promise and stayed with me most of the time. That's why I felt awkward. At least his aunt and uncle were keeping me company. They are good people. I liked them. The weird thing is that I received so many comments about my skin. It's like they cared only about this. I'm not doing anything about it. I can't afford skin care. These things can be expensive. I prefer to spend my money on food than on something else. I checked all the people there. The way they were dressed, their movements. It's visible that these people are wealthy and have good manners. I tried to be with good manners, but it's not that easy. I had no idea how to act there. After all, I have never been to such an event. It was a good experience, but I don't want it to repeat. I'm happy with my life the way it is. Maybe it's not perfect, but that doesn't matter. It was my choice, and I'm glad with it. I hope that I will have a chance for something better. That is all I want. The gala night was a week ago, but I still think about this. I can't believe that no one noticed anything about me. I guess I managed to blend in. Well, that was the idea. Luckily, it was for one night. As good as it was, I don't want it to repeat. Such places are not for me. I don't feel comfortable there. That's what I told Charlotte. She asked me ten thousand questions. I know she is excited, but the event is not something to die for. There are better ones. I still sleep in the caravan that Chase found. After the gala night, he offered me to stay at his house. I didn't want to do it, but I agreed. Otherwise, he wouldn't let me go. I have walked during the night alone. Nothing has happened to me. I checked the time to make sure I was not late. Then I took my things and went to the local bathroom for a shower. When I was ready, I went to work. The business started getting slow. I think it might be because of the new store down the street. They sell food and coffee. Maybe we can do this here, too. - Good morning. - Hello, princess. - Charlotte, will you stop? The gala night passed. It's over. - But he likes you. I still can't believe that you were with Chase Wilson. That is incredible. - It was for one night. He probably won't see me again. That is for good. - Why? On your place, I would kill if he keeps looking out for me. - I don't want to mess with wealthy people, ok? They can be dangerous. - Why? - Think about it. They have power. These people can end you with their money. - Ok, you are dramatic now. - You think? I'm real. This is the truth. - These people won't do anything to you. It doesn't hurt to try. - What I should try is convince our boss. She needs to start selling food here. Otherwise, the business will die. - I don't know what is going on. - But I do. Technically, I have an idea or suspicion. - Let me hear it, then. - my boss said - Oh, hi. - I'm listening. - There is a new store down the street. They are the same as us but sell food too. I mean, like croissants, pastries, and breakfast. I have seen people eating there in the early morning. You have to update the store. Otherwise, they will kill us. - A new store, huh? Did you see who was the seller? - No, I haven't been inside. - Well, I will go. - Do you know something? - No, but I have my suspicions. You two keep working. I'll be back soon. - Ok, no problem. Charlotte and I kept working until our lunch break. Then she went to eat outside with Adam. It's visible that he makes her happy. That is good for her. I have some food in my backpack. I can eat it. Soon, someone walked in. I forgot to lock the door. - I'm sorry, but we are closed for lunch. - I'm not here to drink. - Chase? What are you doing here? - I came to see you and talk with you. - Why? What happened? - Dad keeps asking about you. If I tell him the truth, he will get mad. I don't know what to do. Do you have any ideas? - Right now, nothing comes to me. I don't know. Try to avoid the topic. - I tried. He is not listening to me. - Maybe he will forget about this. - I don't think so. - Tell him that you know me through friends. He doesn't know with who you go out. - He won't believe that. - What kind of person is your dad? - The one who wants to know everything about me. I don't know what to do. - You can tell him the truth and face the consequences, but I don't think you will do it. - No, I can't let you get in trouble. - Me? Why? - Because he can search for you. This can't happen, ok? He knows people everywhere and might use this against you. It's better if I don't tell him anything. - No offense, but is this why you came here? I'm sorry, but I can't help you. - No, I wanted to see you. I have to go to dinner tonight with my parents and other people. Dad didn't tell me anything else. That is my only free time for you today. - Oh, ok. - I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you. - I'm kidding. I don't care if you will come to see me or not. - You don't? - Not that much. You are a busy person. Being your date for one night was enough for me. I don't want to do this again. - Don't worry. There are no other events soon. Also, I don't plan to come with a girl again. - Why? - Because people keep asking me if we are dating. - Tell me you said no. - Yes, I did. I am single. Well, for now. I haven't thought about being in a relationship. - That is your decision, but I will tell you one thing. I don't want to be part of the wealthy world. I am who I am. If you don't like me, that is your problem. - I do like you. Your skin, too. - he said, chuckling - Will you stop? Why does everyone keep asking me the same thing? It's getting annoying. - I'm sorry. It is what it is. - Great. - Ok, I will go now. - Wait! I will make you a coffee. - No, you don't have to do it. - It's ok. This time, it's on me. - If you say so. I made Chase the coffee, and he went back to work. Charlotte came and looked at me with a smirk. If I could, I would've deleted it from her face. Nothing is going on between Chase and me. We are not even friends. I don't think she will ever understand this. It's not like I care. I told him what I had to say. What he will do is not my business. After work, I walked around. I decided to eat in the caravan. I have yogurt and biscuits. It's not the best food combination, but it will do the work. I get tired of eating only sandwiches. The truth is that they are cheaper than the other food. Sometimes I treat myself, but it's rare. As I was eating, I saw a cat. I showed her my yogurt, and she came. I made sure that she was a female. It's not like I care. I love animals. Sometimes, even more than people. I know they won't hurt you. I mean, not intentionally. When I finished eating, I went for a walk. I can leave my things here. The thing is that I'm afraid someone might steal them. I passed by a restaurant and saw Chase with his parents, sitting next to a girl. He should've been with someone like her to the gala night, not with me. It's visible that she is wealthy. I can't offer him anything. I walked away before he saw me. After all, I don't want to ruin his dinner. Soon, someone grabbed my hand. - Hey. Where are you going? - I don't know. I went for a walk. - Can I join you? - You told me you had dinner. - I still do. My parents are inside. - You don't look happy. - My dad is trying to set me up with a girl. - I see. At least he stopped asking about me. - Not really. - Did you tell him? - No, no. I will never do it. - Thanks, but it's better if you go inside. He might be waiting for you. - I will tell him that I had an urgent call. - If this will work. - I will make it work. Honestly, I needed some fresh air. If it hadn't been for the dad of this girl, I would've said some things to her. - Why? - All the time, she is trying on me. I'm not interested. - But she might be. - I don't care. I don't want to date her or have any relations with her. - I don't think that is your choice. - But it should be. We are talking about my life. - Yes, but who cares? I do, but does your father? - I don't know. I think the answer is no. - Your aunt and uncle were good. You can talk to them. I'm sure they can help you. - I will think about this. After all, I don't want them to deal with my problems. - It's called help. - Thank you for the lesson. - Go back inside. I think you shouldn't talk with me now. - But I want to do it. I prefer to stay here with you than be with this girl there. She is annoying. - he said, and I laughed - Well, not everyone can be like me. - That is true. - I was joking. - But I wasn't. Somehow, I managed to send him back inside. I don't know why he keeps talking with me. I'm not that interesting person. I'm sure he can have more fun without me. Well, I like that he still prefers me. I better stop hoping for the impossible. After my walk, I went back to the caravan. Chase was right. No one will search me here. At least it has a bed. The cat was there too. I didn't finish my yogurt and gave it to her. Animals have to eat, too. It's not the best food, but it will be good enough for her. I was planning to go to bed when there was a knock. - May I come in? - What are you doing here? - I came to visit you. Again. - What about your dinner? - It ended. Finally. - You didn't like it, did you? - Neither a single bit. I'm glad that it's over. - Maybe it was for good. You never know. - Well, it did help me with something. - See? What was it? - I understood some things about myself. - That's great. - I will talk with you, but it won't be now. I want to think about it first. - What do you mean? - I will tell you later. How is this place? I know it's not the best. - It has a bed. That is more than enough for me. - I have a bed at home. - Chase, it was only for one night. It won't happen again. - I hope you are wrong. - Why? - You will understand. Chase and I kept talking. He wanted to stay with me until I fell asleep. I won't lie. It was weird and awkward. He has a place to stay and friends to go out with, but he keeps coming to see me. I like it, but it might end horribly for him. I'm sure his dad won't like it. That's why he didn't tell him anything. He said I might get in trouble, but I don't see how. This man doesn't know anything about me. Well, he can search for information or ask people. Let's say that I don't want him to get there. I don't want to mess with him. I prefer to stay out of trouble. I hope that he will never find out about me.
