Episode 5
The next morning, Maya couldn’t shake the tension. Every sound—the creak of the floorboards, the hum of the refrigerator—made her jump. She knew someone had been in her apartment, and the photographs Deran showed her kept replaying in her mind. Whoever was watching her wasn’t going to stop.
Deran arrived before she could think of leaving. His presence was steady, commanding, and somehow comforting. “We need to move,” he said, his tone urgent. “They might come back tonight.”
Maya nodded, heart pounding. She grabbed her essentials as he led her out the back door, shadows stretching across the quiet street. The city felt different now—dangerous, unpredictable.
Suddenly, a figure darted from the alley, lunging toward Maya. Instinctively, Deran pushed her behind him, the movement smooth and protective. The attacker stumbled, startled, and ran off before she could even process what had happened.
Maya’s hands shook as she clutched Deran’s arm. “Why me? Why now?”
Deran’s eyes softened, but the tension never left his voice. “Because you’re part of something bigger, something they want… and I won’t let them take you.”
As they disappeared into the night, Maya realized that the danger wasn’t just around her—it was following her, relentless, and only Deran could keep her safe.
