Chapter 6
Walking towards my bedroom, I mind linked my brother, “where are you, we need to talk.” “I’m all talked out Vivy, I can’t deal with all of this, mother being alive, coming into our powers, the possibility of some unknown threat out there somewhere waiting to strike. I just can’t discuss this anymore tonight.” Was the response that he gave me and then he blocked our mind link. Knowing he was too stubborn to hear me out at the moment and not wanting to use my powers to force him to talk, I reached out to link Issa.
“Issa, Micah is blocking me. Where are you guys? Can I please come and talk to you both? I can’t stand handling this by myself.” I needed their support and I felt that my brother needed me just as much as I needed him at that moment. Issa quickly responded that they were in the library.
Making my way to the library, my plan was to get Issa and my brother away from home for the night, to clear our heads and focus on something else, for just a little while. I hope they will see things my way, but I know it will not be easy convincing my brother to attend a party at a time like this. He will probably refuse to even consider my idea. My best option is to get Issa on my side. Micah had never been able to refuse his mate anything. That was one of the effects of the mate bond, their happiness trumps everything. Now I was going to see for myself just how powerful this mate may be. It was time to introduce myself to the stranger that just may change the entire trajectory of my future.
Reaching the library door, I took a deep breath and opened the door to find my brother pacing back and forth, wearing a path into the Burberry carpet. Seeing Issa sitting in a nearby chair, I walked in her direction and started to explain my idea. “I need to get out of the house, I think we could all use a distraction. The mixer at the dean’s house is going to start in about 2 hours and I think we should go.” Issa is staring at me like I have two heads, but I continue, “It will give us a chance to focus on something other than the fact that we have been lied to and basically abandoned our mother for 20 years. Instead, we can focus on the fact that my mate will probably be at this party. I need your help to make sure I don’t make a complete i***t of myself, like I did earlier today.”
I can see she is thinking over my idea. I know she is curious about this stranger just as much as I am, and she confirms my thoughts when she says, “I do think focusing on your situation is a very good distraction, but I don’t know how to convince you stubborn brother. He is going to put up a fight. All he wants to do right now is be angry. He hasn’t said a word to me since we walked into this room.” I can see she is clearly worried about Micah and how he was handling this new information. “I can still hear you both. I am not interested in any mixer, but I am very interested in your mate situation. I also need to get out of this house and have a good distraction. Let’s go get ready, we will meet you in the main hall at seven.” Walking over and reaching for Issa’s hand, Micah was ready to walk out of the door. Well, that was easier than I expected, I thought to myself. “Wait, the mixer starts at 6:30, are we going to be fashionably late?” I called out just as they reached the door of the library. Micah pauses only slightly in his dash for the exit and calls out over his shoulder, “Yes, we will be fashionably late because you interrupted us earlier so we need to finish what we started. It will take us a while, see you at seven.” And with a saucy wink and an open-mouthed Issa trailing him, Micah was done with this conversation. I shouldn’t have asked that loaded question, I guess, because I definitely could have gone a lifetime without that tidbit of information. Time to go get myself ready.
In a strange mix of emotions, I am nervous, terrified, upset and excited. "Genesis, are we really ready to settle down and be a real mate to this complete stranger?" I asked her. Throughout all of these revelations, she has been annoyingly quiet in my mind. Her response was quick and concise, "I want mate."
