Intro: Vivian POV
Vivian POV “You can do this girl, get your mind together. YOU GOT THIS!” I keep repeating the mantra to myself to prep for this first day as an associate professor at my al Marta. Having graduated from High school at the tender age of 15 and a half and then completing my degree by 22, I am the youngest professor in Lexington University history. The even bigger wow factor it that I teach first year Biochemistry to first year Med students… Problem is because I’m so young most people see me more as a student than an actual PhD holding professor. I’m an over achiever, not bragging but that has always been my life. Education and medicine are my passion in life, although my father would wish it otherwise. Being the first-born child of an Alpha male and head of our pack, my father would rather I focus on finding a mate and taking my place as and Alpha. Moon goddess had other plans when she created me. Vivian’s POV. “Professor, Dr. Grayfur?” I hear my name being called and I know that voice, I have heard it from my earliest memory. “Issa, why must you do that?” I turn to face my very best friend, “you are my assistant, my best friend and married to my twin brother, do we really need the title right now?’ tilting her head slightly to the side with a grin I know better that my own, her response is, “why yes ma’am we must, I am the student/ teacher’s assistant and you are technically my boss and teacher. So, are we ready for the first lecture PROFESSOR, Dr. Grayfur?” I can’t help but roll my eyes, some things are best left as is; “As ready as I can be, I just have to prove to these new students and to the dean of the department that I earned this position. He is one of those old school men who believe someone my age has no place teaching medicine.” “Well, we know you could probably teach him a thing or three, so just rock out these classes like I know you can and he will have no choice but to see exactly what you are capable, and then some.” Issa tell me with calm reassurance. This pep talk was just what I needed. He was tall for a human, probably around 5’11 maybe even 6ft. sandy brown hair with hazel eyes, very attractive. Confidently he walks up to the desk I am standing behind and with a cocksure grin boldly states, “Hi, I’m Lincoln and I do believe you are my future Mrs.” Oh silly human boy, I think to myself. At the same moment I am having this thought I get a mind link from Issa. “First one through the door and already the fun begins.” A smile comes to me and I turn just enough to look him in the eyes and every so sweetly explain to him, “I don’t think it would be a good idea for me to be your Mrs. Anything, you see it’s against school policy to date one’s students. Nice to meet you and welcome to Biochemistry 101. I’m Dr. Grayfur, your professor.” First there is disbelief then shock as he looks to Issa for confirmation. “Yep, my friend, you just hit on your professor on the first day of class.” Issa loudly whispers for all of the other students who are finding their seats to hear. Lincoln looks back at me with a face that is now red at a tomato, “I am so sorry Professor, I hope I haven’t offended you in anyway. Please forgive my mistake, it will not happen again.” I have to let him off the hook, it was an innocent mistake and I have heard much worse pick-up lines. “You are completely forgiven and we will pretend like this never happened.” Good morning, everyone and welcome to Biochemistry 101. I’m your Professor Dr. Grayfur and I look forward to a wonderful semester with you all.” After introducing myself and my assistant we go over the syllabus and expectations for this class. Two and a half hours later, class is dismissed. Just as the last student is exiting the door my mentor and senior professor walks in clapping his hands. Wondering what this could possibly be about I have to ask, “Hello, Dr Wingmen. Is that for me?” “Yes, my dear. I made sure to leave my morning open to watch your first class and I must say I am beyond impressed as usual. You handled that student flirt beautifully, and as far as introductory classes go, you did a bang-up job. I should not be surprised because it’s you. I shouldn’t have expected anything less.” His smile is genuine and full of pride, I can only smile back and try not to blush. This man took me under his wing from the first day I stepped into his class room 4 years ago as a first-year medical student. I can honestly say that next to my father, making this man proud will be one of my greatest accomplishments. “When is your next lecture?” he asks me. “I have an hour before that class starts. Only 2 classes a day 2 days a week. Dean Gruffin won’t give me more than that as of yet.” I explain. Dr Wingmen looks back at me thoughtfully and replies, “No worries, Vivian. They will come to see what you are capable of soon enough.” I can only nod and hope he is right but the odds are stacked against me. ‘There are only 3 people in this department that believe I can handle this position, Dr. Wingmen, Issa and Professor Tilman. Professor Tilman teaches classes here at the university part time. He also happens to be part of my pack and not only that, he is my father’s Gamma.” Most of the Professors and teachers in this school believe I landed this position due to nothing more than nepotism. That is my lot in life. My second class just ended and thankfully it was basically a repeat of the first, minus the overly flirtatious student. Issa and I are packing up and getting ready to head home for the day when we hear a commotion outside of the window. We both go to the window to find out what could possibly be happening. What we can see is a mob of students surrounding what we assume must be a celebrity of some sort. As the crowd continues forward, I can see that they are heading to our building. The closer the crowd gets the more nervous I seem to become. I cannot understand what is happening to me but I am almost desperate to see who is garnering so much attention. And my wolf Genesis is abnormally restless, she is almost giddy, which is quite unusual for the tame wolf. They are just arriving at the building entrance when I can see that at the center of this mob is a very tall man. He actually stands head and shoulders above everyone on the crowd. Just as I have this thought, the stranger pauses and slowly lifts his head to look in my direction. “MATE!!” Genesis screams to me. “NO, there is no way.” I respond to my wolf. But I can feel him watching me and I can’t stop staring, my heart feels as though it is going a mile a minute. I have this impulse to run to this stranger and wrap my complete self around him and at the say time I want to run away as far and as fast as I can. I am not ready for a mate. I have plans. I’m just starting my life. Mates for my kind is life altering, finding the one person that the moon goddess has created especially for you and only you, it is blessing. It is even more important for me as my mate will decide my fate in many ways. I am not the average Lycan, being the Lycan Kings daughter is the only difference between myself and other Lycans. My twin brother and I are descendants of the Gods. “Vivian, VIVIAN…. EARTH to VIVIAN” I hear Issa shouting at me. It appears she has been trying to get my attention. Between Genesis clawing at my conscious to take control and my seeming captivity to this man’s eyes, I can’t seem to gather a coherent thought. I finally gather enough will power to push Genesis to the back of my mind but just barely. She wants her mate and all else pales in comparison to claiming our destiny. Stepping away from the window, Issa is very aware that something is wrong with me. “Viv, what just happened, who is that man… that very gorgeous man?” She asks me in almost a whisper, even though we are the only people in the room at this point. Turning stunned eyes to her I respond, “Whoever he is, I believe he is my mate.” Issa’s only response is “Holy s**t”. Being my best friend and having spent the majority of our lives together and then her ending up being my twin brothers’ mate, means she know my every dream, ambition, wish. This woman knows me better than I know myself, at times. She also knows my fear of losing everything. I have worked my ass off to reach my dreams of teaching and I don’t want to give up all that work to the will of my mate and my family. “We need to get you out of here before you actually make contact with this man. We need to think, and decide how to handle this. We need a plan.” Grabbing my hand, she reaches over and also grabs our bags from the desk. “We need to go the back way and avoid that mob in the main corridor.” I replay finally coming out of my semi state of shock. As we exit the classroom and head down hall, the coast looks clear. We are moving as fast as possible and trying not to draw attention to ourselves by outright running from the building. I mean how would that look; a dignified professor should not be seen fleeing the building on the first day of classes. Just as we approach the last set of doors that lead to the back corridor, we see a group of people walking towards our escape route. That’s when both realized that this side of the building also contains the faculty offices and conference rooms. Damn, damn, damn is all that is running through my mind. Issa stops and says to me, “they must be going to the conference room or something. Oh, s**t don’t look up, maybe they won’t see us standing here. I pretending to have a quiet conversation. We turn towards each other hoping to avoid making any eye contact. “Prof. Grayfur and Mrs. Grayfur, would you mind meeting with us in the conference room, there is someone you must meet.” The dean of the department calls out to us. “So much for not being noticed” I whisper to Issa. Looking up I put on my prize-winning smile for the man who can keep me employed and respond “sure thing” and we walk towards my destiny. Within this group are several deans and department heads as well as the unknown man, at this point there is no excuse or reasonable explanation for rejecting to meet this person. As I start walking towards the group of men and women, I try to remain calm cool and collected, like this is nothing out of the ordinary. As my eyes scan the group, I am immediately drawn to this unknown man and oh my goddess what a man he is, gorgeous does not do this creature justice. He is head and shoulders taller than the tallest person in this group, which mean he stands at least six and a half feet tall if not more. His skin looks kissed by the sun, he is golden almost to the point is having a glow. He has jet black hair and the most amazing blue/grey eyes. Taking in every feature since I can’t seem to tear my gaze away, I notice his straight almost too big nose, proud cheek bones and the most tempting mouth I have ever laid eyes on. I mean come on; the man has what looks like the fullest, firmest lips I have ever seen on a man without being overly plump. I can see every detail of his face, which is when I realize that I had unknowingly pushed my way past everyone else to stand directly in front of this stranger. Barely inches away I can feel his body heat, my hands itch to reach out and touch him, the world around us has disappeared, and looking at his beautiful face I see his mouth move as he whispers the word that my wolf is screaming in my head,” MATE”. I have no idea how much time has passed as we continue to stand and stare at one another but. Just as I see his hand move to reach out to me, we both hear someone loudly clearing their throat, “Ahh hmm”. Turning to face the sound I finally realize I have caused a scene, embarrassing beyond compare. I feel myself blush from head to toe, and that is saying a lot, as I’m not a fair skinned woman. “Would either of you mind telling us what they heck just happened? I mean you walked up to him as if you know him… Do you know our new interim Dean of Business Administration?” asks the Dean of the University. I open my mouth to come up with some kind of excuse but no words form, just as I am ready to run for the nearest exit, I hear the sweetest sound my ears have ever encountered. In a rich smooth bass voice I hear, “No we haven’t officially meet in person but I do believe we know each other.” Turning to that voice I watch almost in a daze as his perfect lips form every word. Watching and hear him speak I feel myself getting hot. I literally fear that if he were to reach out and touch me. I would actually burst into flame and burn everything down around me until only him and I are left standing. All at once, I see Issa steps into my line of vision breaking the eye contact that seems to hold me immobile. In her sweet concerned gaze, I see her mouth moving but it takes me a minute to hear and understand her words. “Viv, we have an appointment, remember? If we don’t leave soon the afternoon schedule will be thrown off.” Turning to face the group of faculty Issa continues, “it appears we won’t be able to join you all just yet, but hopefully we will get to make proper introductions at the mixer later this evening? We hope to see all of you there.” Hearing Issa’s little speech helps me to find my own voice and I am finally able to croak out, “Ahh yes, so nice of you to ask us to join you but she is correct, we do have an appointment with my…. Realtor. So ahh, I look forward to seeing everyone again soon.” This last part is said as I am staring into the most beautiful eyes the Moon Goddess as ever created. Issa grabs my arm and turned us in the direction of the closest exit. The walk to the door was excoriating. Oh, my word, how much of a simpleton I must have looked. The mere presence of this man and I cannot form a proper intelligent thought, let alone form a comprehendible sentence. As my colleagues all look on in shock at this abrupt turn of events, the newcomer finally speaks. His voice smooth as silk and an incredibly deep bass, “Yes professor, I do so look forward to getting to know you much better.” Looking back over my shoulder I meet his eyes once again and nearly collide with the very door I am trying to escape thru. The sound of his voice is like a stroke of pleasure that makes my whole being tingle with the urge to lay myself bare right there in the hallway. “We must leave this place now”, I’m am screaming in my head, hoping my feet will cooperate. With a smile, Issa and I walk directly out of the building and to the parking lot where my car is parked. Neither of us looked back or uttered a single word until we were safely inside of the vehicle. My hands had a death grip on the steering wheel. I was working to get my breathing under control and my heart rate back to normal. I felt like we had just finished a marathon, my heart was beating so fast, when all we did was walk about 150 feet to my car. All this time my wolf is screaming in my head for us to go back and claim our fated mate. Genesis only had one thought and one plan of action, “We are fated to that delicious piece of man candy. Go back now, claim him and your destiny. Make beautiful pups and rule by his side until the end of time.” My response was one she did not like or agree with, “Stop with the destiny, mates and beautiful pups’ nonsense, I need to think without you yapping in my head.” Oh, now I am yapping, huh? Do you understand how rare this is, especially for us? You know we are very different from other wolves.” she complained back at me. Taking a minute to calm down, I explain to my very irritated wolf, “The University hallway, in front of about a dozen of my colleagues, is not the ideal place to announce to the world that I have found my fated mate and we are bound to spend eternity together. I would look crazier than we already do after the disaster that just accrued.” “How crazy is this, that on your first day you would meet your fated mate?’ Issa spoke, breaking up the bickering between my wolf and I. “I mean damn but that man is FINE. Girl, I love your brother, having my own Moon Goddess blessed mate is amazing and I wouldn’t trade him for anything… except maybe to have your mate!” turning my head to stare at my best friend in the whole world, all I can see is her crazy grin. At first, I was ready to tear her a new one until I saw her face and I knew she was just trying to lighten the mood. Looking at her crazy smile I cannot help but to burst out laughing. After we settle down, I notice Issa studying me, the concern in her eyes showing just how much she cares about me. “Okay, so this is a pickle huh?” I say breaking the silence. “I mean let us be rational here I just laid eyes on the man the moon goddess created just for me and I did not even get his name. Yes, he is gorgeous and yes both my wolf and I cannot stop thinking about seeing him naked and in all of his golden glory but, am I ready for this?? You and I both know what is to come, what the prophecy says will come about once both my brother and I are mated. Am I or are we ready for what may happen next?” Her response to all I just said was a simple, “Well, I’ll be damn.” “What the Hell Issa, is that all you can say right now?” I asked her in all seriousness. Her only response with a nod of her head is, “Yep Hun, that is all I got at the minute. But give me a second and I may come up with something better.” At this point I cannot help but laugh again. After years of waiting and wondering, I have finally felt the pull of finding my mate. Yet I am scared beyond reason as to what this will mean for my life. I have a good life, peaceful and routine. Just one look at that stranger and I feel nothing remotely close to peaceful. He will affectively turn my world inside out. I have never thought of myself as the type of women to lose myself to anyone but this man makes me feel differently. I have the urge to be whatever he needs me to be, how utterly ridiculous is that, who am I turning into, and all of this with just one look, imagine what I would become once I am claimed by him. I will not the will of a man turn me into mush. Turning back to stare out of the window, I feel my wolf pushing back into my thoughts… “I do not want to rational when our destined mate is just over there, waiting for us.” “No, I will not be led by your need to claim him, I mean we don’t even know his name. We need to get home and talk to my father immediately” I say to my annoying other half. As if plucking the thoughts from my head Issa says, “Let’s get home quick, we need to talk to your father ASAP. He may be able to help you figure out what to do next.” Nodding my agreement, I press the button and hear the engine roar to life. Pulling out of my assigned spot, I have one thought running through my head, what will father say once he knows I have found my mate and ran away?
