Chapter 8

1164 Words
Vivian POV At 6:45pm I am putting the finishing touches on my hair. I went for a natural clean look tonight. I never wear much make-up; it just takes too much time. I do, however, want to look good. Tonight may be the night that my world changes. I took special care picking out my attire. While I wanted to look amazing, I also have to remember that this is a university function, so nothing too sexy or revealing. I chose my navy cocktail dress. While form fitting with a scoop neck line, it reaches just above my knees and while the neck line does show a fair amount of cleavage, that can’t be helped, my breasts aren’t what anyone would consider small. My black and navy jimmy choo heels are perfection and make my long legs and backside look amazing. I decided to tame my curls tonight, brushing them back into a sleek bun that sits on the nape of my neck. All put together, I think I look pretty good. Once I put the final touches on my lipstick, I am ready to go. Checking the clock again, I see that it is now five minutes until seven. Grabbing my black clutch purse, I walked out of my room and down to the elevator. Once, I was in the main hall, I heard Issa and Micah walking in my direction from the main dining hall. “Wow, you look gorgeous. He is going to fall all over you when he sees you tonight.” Issa says as she walks up to me. “Issa, I love that dress, I am so glad we chose the grey over the black.” I responded. “You look handsome as well Micah, I hope you plan on smiling at some point tonight.” I could tell he was still bothered by the events that transpired in dad’s office, so I wasn’t surprised when his only response was a grunt and a nod. “Don’t mind him. I also told him he could not cause any issues when we run into your mate tonight. He was ready to give the man the third degree.” Issa informed me. “She is my only sister and my twin; this guy had better be good enough for you Vivy. If I get even the slightest hint that he isn’t worthy, I will speak about it.” Micah said, and he meant every word. My brothers may pick on me and play silly pranks just to hear me scream at them, but they were all overly protective. One of the main reasons why I have never had a boyfriend that stuck around longer than six months. So, at almost 25 years old, I am still a virgin. Not that it is a bad thing, but I would’ve liked to have had some experience. Who wants a mate that has no clue how to please their partner and I know for a fact that none of my brothers are waiting for their mates. All three of my brothers have been having s*x as soon as they reached their teenage years. Horn Dogs are what they are, if you ask me. “Well, let’s get this show on the road. We are already late and I am hungry.” Issa announced as she started walking to the door. Once in my brother's SUV, we made our way into the city. 35 minutes later, we were standing at the door of the school president's palatial mansion. We are greeted by a security guard who takes our coats and walks us into the main ballroom. There are steps that lead down into the room and we immediately see our host. Walking into the room, we greeted him and his wife. Making polite small talk, but I am distracted as my eyes seem to wander. “Vivian, are you looking for anyone in particular? I noticed you were scanning the room.” This was said by the wife. I had to think of something to excuse my behavior. “Oh, no ma’am, I am just admiring the room. Your home is beautiful and you did an amazing job with the decorating.” Good save, I thought to myself. “Oh darling, thank you. I did try to make sure everything was just right. After hosting these mixers for so long, I try to keep the ideas for ambiance fresh and new each time.” She said glowing at my compliment. Excusing themselves to greet more guests, Issa, Micah and I make our way towards the refreshment table. Dinner is scheduled to start at 8pm so we have about 15 minutes until we head into the formal dining room. There are more people than I imagined would be here and the person I am hoping to see is nowhere to be found. Maybe he decided not to show up. Trying to hide my disappointment, I grab a glass of wine off the tray of a passing server and made more small talk with other members of the party. Noticing my mood change, Micah mind links me, “you okay sis? You look like you are ready to go and we just got here.” I linked back “I’m okay, just hungry. Dinner can’t come soon enough. I haven’t eaten since the snack I had between classes earlier.” It sounded like a viable excuse, but from the look on my brother’s face, he didn’t buy my story of just being hungry. Micah also knew when not to pry, so he didn’t push me for the truth. At exactly eight, our host announced it was time to head into dinner. There were 3 long tables that seated about 30 people each. Micah and Issa were both seated on my right. I turned to ask Issa a question when the most amazing scent caught my attention. Still looking at my friend, I froze in place. Noticing the tension in my expression, Issa asks me, “Vivy, are you okay? You look like you are ready to faint or something.” I couldn’t say a word but another voice entered the conversation. “That might be my fault.” The newcomer said, taking the seat to my left. I watched as Issa’s face looked toward the seat next to me. Her face showed her surprise. “Good evening, everyone.” He said to the table. Leaning over closer to me, he whispered just loud enough for me to hear, “I am so glad I was able to find you, I have been looking for you… my whole life.” That voice and those words made my heart freeze mid beat. Finally, I turned to face my future. Looking into the eyes of the person I had been searching for all night, I felt excited and nervous and giddy all at once. Finding my voice, I smiled and greeted him “Hi. What took you so long?’
