The moon hung low above the Silverfang territory, pale light spilling through the forest canopy. Night carried a strange stillness, as if the world itself was holding its breath.
The bond mark on her neck pulsed faintly, reminding her of Kael’s lips and his touch, of how she had given in to his fire the night before. Mainit. Matamis. Safe. Pero sa likod ng alaala, may ibang presensya—isang anino na ayaw siyang bitawan. Damon.
“Why can’t I get you out of my head…” bulong niya, pinipigilan ang sariling pumikit. Tuwing ipipikit niya ang mata niya, naroon si Damon. His smirk. His eyes that burned like molten silver. His voice whispering forbidden promises.
The guilt was eating her alive.
His scent enveloped her—pine, smoke, and a hint of spice. Comforting, yet suffocating. Napatigil siya, humarap.
“Kael…”
His eyes searched hers, full of concern but also sharp with something else—jealousy. “You’re trembling. Tell me what’s wrong.”
She shook her head, forcing a smile. “I’m fine. Just… tired.”
But Kael wasn’t convinced. He cupped her face, his thumb brushing over her lip. “Don’t lie to me, Lyra. I can feel it. You’re drifting… away from me.”
Her heart cracked. She leaned into his chest, hearing his heartbeat pound like a drum. “I’m not leaving you, Kael. I can’t.”
Yet even as she said it, a whisper in her blood disagreed.
Kael pulled her tighter. “Then prove it. Stay with me. Block out everything else. Him.” His voice dropped, dark and dangerous. “I know Damon has touched your mind. I can feel his shadow clinging to you.”
Lyra froze.
“Kael—”
But before she could answer, the air shifted.
The torches lining the pack’s courtyard flickered violently, shadows stretching. Then came the scent—wild, feral, intoxicating. Damon stepped out from the darkness, his black coat billowing, his smirk cutting through the night.
“Well, isn’t this cozy?” His voice was smooth, mocking, dripping with temptation. “The Alpha clinging to what was never truly his.”
“Damon!” Kael snarled, stepping forward, placing Lyra behind him. His claws extended, his eyes blazing gold. “You dare step into my land?”
Damon tilted his head, eyes sliding toward Lyra. “Your land? Your mate? Funny, little brother. Because when I look at her…” He inhaled deeply, lips curling into a wicked grin. “…I smell something that belongs to me.”
Lyra’s breath hitched, heat flooding her body at his words. Kael growled, noticing her reaction, and it drove him mad.
“She’s not yours!” Kael roared.
Damon’s gaze burned into Lyra, ignoring Kael. “Tell him, Lyra. Tell him you feel it too. The bond that no mark can erase. The fire that no Alpha’s claim can smother.”
Her lips parted, but no sound came. Her silence was enough.
Kael’s fury erupted.
Kael lunged, claws flashing, colliding with Damon in a violent clash. The ground shook as their power burst like thunder. Damon laughed, catching Kael’s strike with ease, their strength evenly matched.
Lyra screamed, rushing forward, but the force of their fight threw her back against the wall. Sparks and shadows swirled as the brothers tore into each other—fire and shadow colliding under the moonlight.
“Stop it! Please!” she cried, tears streaming down her face.
But they didn’t stop. They couldn’t. Kael fought with desperation, each strike fueled by love and fear of losing her. Damon fought with hunger, each blow dripping with lust and obsession.
“Lyra is mine!” Kael shouted.
“No,” Damon hissed, pushing him back, eyes glowing silver. “She belongs to the darkness inside her—and only I can set it free!”
Her chest felt like it was being ripped in two. She couldn’t bear it. Two brothers. Two forces. And me—caught in the middle.
When Kael was knocked to the ground, blood on his lip, Damon advanced on her. His hand cupped her cheek, thumb stroking her trembling skin.
“See what he can’t understand, Lyra?” he whispered, his voice low and sinful. “You’re not meant to be caged by duty. You crave this. You crave me.”
Her knees weakened, breath shallow. Damon leaned closer, lips brushing her ear. “One word… and I’ll take you away from all this.”
Her body trembled—half with fear, half with forbidden desire.
“Don’t listen to him!” Kael staggered to his feet, clutching his side. “Lyra, come to me. Don’t let him twist you!”
Her eyes darted between them. Kael’s golden fire—warm, safe, desperate. Damon’s silver shadows—wild, dangerous, intoxicating.
Both wanted her. Both consumed her.
And she… wanted both.
Damon pressed closer, his breath hot on her lips. “You feel it, don’t you? The heat between us. The way your body trembles when I’m near.” His fingers trailed down her arm, leaving a trail of fire.
Lyra gasped, torn between pulling away and falling into him. Kael saw it and roared, rushing forward, grabbing Lyra and pulling her into his arms possessively.
“She’s mine!” Kael’s lips crushed hers, fierce, claiming, desperate. His kiss was fire and storm, staking his right over her.
But even as Lyra clung to him, she felt Damon’s gaze burning into her, his smirk promising pleasures Kael could never give. The heat in her chest spiraled—Kael’s fire and Damon’s shadows colliding inside her.
She broke the kiss, panting, trembling, tears in her eyes. “Stop… both of you… please…”
Kael held her close, his body shaking. “Lyra, tell me you choose me. End this.”
Damon stepped forward, voice dark velvet. “Or choose me, and I’ll show you a world beyond these chains.”
Her lips quivered, her heart in ruins. She couldn’t speak. She couldn’t choose.
The brothers glared at each other, both ready to kill, both ready to die—for her.
And Lyra realized the truth. No matter what I say, one of them will break. And maybe… so will I.
Damon’s smirk widened, silver light pulsing in his hand as he conjured dark fire. “Very well. If she cannot choose… then we’ll let fate decide.”
Kael roared, power surging.
And Lyra stood between them, torn, shaking, burning—knowing the next moment could shatter everything.
