5 The next morning was so early even my grandfather looked sleepy. The sun wasn’t even thinking about getting up when we made our way down the road. The scenery was one of short, stony hills speckled with thin forests. large fields broke the monotony, and those were managed by a farmhouse full of workers who were already out gathering their crops and managing their animals. As the hours passed our road merged with others and widened into a gravel highway. The traffic, too, thickened as each road brought with its wagons, horses, and even pedestrians.
