NEW SCHOOL
Melony’s POV:
As the sun streamed through my bedroom window, I slowly opened my eyes, taking in the warmth and brightness of the new day. It was a Monday morning, and today marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life. I was about to start at a new school, leaving behind the familiar faces and routines of my old one.
Yesterday being Sunday was been quite eventful, as we celebrated a family party. It was a joyous occasion filled with laughter, delicious food, and lively conversations. However, it had also left me feeling a bit tired and worn out. So, I decided to allow myself a few extra moments of rest before getting ready for my first day at my new school.
As I stretched in bed, memories of the previous day's festivities flashed through my mind. I recalled the excitement of seeing distant relatives and catching up with cousins, especially Nina my favorite. Nina and I hadn’t seen each other for months until yesterday, I was so happy to see her again, we played games, ate and gossiped a little about somethings. It was a memorable Sunday that left me feeling grateful for the love and warmth of my family.
But now, it was time to shift my focus to the future and the opportunities that awaited me at the new school. With a mix of excitement and nervousness, I swung my legs out of bed and planted my feet on the soft carpet. I took a deep breath, reminding myself that new beginnings bring new chances for growth and discovery.
After a quick shower, I made my way downstairs to the kitchen, as I sat downstairs enjoying my breakfast, the comforting aroma of the meal filled the air. I could hear the faint sound of my parents' conversation from upstairs, but it didn't appear to be an intense or worrisome discussion. Suddenly I heard my mum call out my name, her tone seemed urgent, as if she needed my immediate attention.
Startled by the urgency in her voice, I quickly responded and made my way upstairs to my parents' room. As I entered, I saw my mother and father engaged in a casual conversation, which eased my initial concern. My mother turned towards me and asked me "young lady didn’t you hear me call you?," I called more than three good times.
Feeling a tad guilty for not hearing her, I promptly apologized, explaining that I hadn't heard her until the last time she called. My mother, with a hint of amusement, reassured me that it was okay and chuckled. I gazed at her with a smile, grateful that the situation wasn't as serious as I initially thought.
Then, a realization struck me—, I hadn't greeted my parents properly this morning. Wanting to rectify this, I took a moment to say, "Good Morning Dad and Mum." Good morning my darling, hope you slept well? My father responded kindly, I replied that I indeed had a good night's sleep, and my mother promptly reciprocated my greeting, leaning in to kiss my forehead.
With that small conversation, the morning tension dissipated, and a sense of warmth enveloped the room. The loving atmosphere reassured me and reminded me of the support and care my parents always provided. I felt fortunate to have such a loving family to lean on as I embarked on this new chapter of my life.
Leaving my parents' room with a smile on my face, I was ready to face the day and make the most of my first day at my new school.
As my parents continued their lighthearted banter about my first day as a secondary school student, I couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness bubbling within me. Their words of encouragement and acknowledgment of my growth brought a sense of pride and joy, making me laugh out loud at their playful teasing.
With a blush tinting my cheeks, I couldn't hide the happiness that radiated from my face. Their words were a reminder that I was entering a new phase of my life, transitioning into a more mature and independent version of myself.
Without further ado, we hurried downstairs together, ready to embark on the journey to my new school. The car ride was filled with a mix of anticipation, chatter, and the hum of excitement. My parents dropped me off at the school gates, and as I stepped out of the car, I exchanged warm goodbyes with them.
As I watched the car drive away, a sense of both excitement and a hint of nervousness lingered within me. But with the support and encouragement of my parents, I felt ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities that awaited me in my new school.
Oh before I forget, allow me to introduce myself! I'm Melony Oritsegbemigo, an 11-year-old girl from Itsekiri. I reside in Victoria Island, Lagos State, along with my parents. My father's name is Mr. Thompson Oritsegbemigo, and my mother is Mrs. Orowo Oritsegbemigo. My mother is originally from the Isoko region of Delta State, and interestingly, my parents first met during their youth service in Rivers State, According to the information I was given by my parents.
The name of my new school is British Intellectual High School, and its name is truly captivating and impressive, isn't it? This school holds a prestigious reputation and is known for catering to elite students. It is divided into two distinct sections, namely the Primary and Secondary sections, which are in different buildings, each uniquely separated from one another, providing a grand and distinguished atmosphere.
Let us go back to the present day. After bidding my parents goodbye, I made my way down the school hall, filled with a mix of excitement and anticipation. Determined to start off on the right foot, I headed straight to the principal's office. Knocking on the door, I waited for a response and was invited inside. The principal’s office was huge and well painted with blue and milk color, that matched and complemented the other designs in the office, she had numerous awards hung on the wall and some on top of her table, I must confess, I was stunned by the beauty of her office.
I greeted the principal and she replied me warmly, creating an inviting atmosphere. Understanding the importance of a smooth transition, she immediately called upon a teacher who would serve as my form teacher. The teacher entered the office, her face adorned with a pleasant smile. Her fair skin had a captivating radiance that caught my attention.
With politeness, I greeted the teacher, and she returned the greeting with equal warmth. I could sense her eagerness to assist me in settling into my new school. Taking the lead, she guided me to my assigned classroom, ensuring I felt welcomed and supported.
As I walked alongside my new form teacher, I couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort and excitement. This kind gesture marked the beginning of my journey in this new environment, and I was eager to embrace the opportunities that awaited me in my new class.
When we walked into the class, the teacher requested that I introduce myself to my new classmates, but before we came into the class she asked me what my name is and I told her my name is Melony, okay Melony, my name is Mrs Favour Jeremy, you’re welcome to our school, feel free to talk to me if you need anything, okay thank you ma’am, I replied. Back to my introduction: I began with a slight stutter, feeling as if the words were caught in my throat. However, I quickly regained my composure and greeted everyone with a warm smile. "Good morning, everyone," I started again, enunciating each word clearly. "My name is Melony, and I'm excited to be a part of this class."
Following my introduction, Mrs Favour instructed my classmates to respond by saying, "You're welcome, Melony." In unison, they kindly welcomed me into their midst. Appreciative of their warm reception, I expressed my gratitude and returned their smiles.
Guided by the teacher, I found my seat and took my place beside a beautiful girl with dark skin and an enchanting smile. She looked at me and said hey Melony, my name is Daphne, it’s nice to meet you. I returned her smile and replied, nice to meet you too Daphne. Rather than feeling envious of her complexion, I embraced the diversity of our skin tones. Although I had a more brown skin tone, I recognized the beauty in our differences and acknowledged that black is undeniably beautiful in all its shades.
As I settled into my seat next to my newfound friend, I felt a sense of connection and anticipation. I looked forward to building friendships and creating memorable experiences in this new school. With an open heart and a renewed sense of confidence, I eagerly embraced the opportunities that awaited me in this exciting journey.
