Chapter Twenty-Seven Bolted Down Maryanne spent her first days aboard the ship in silence. Her transfer had been swift, and she offered little resistance. Once in the sealed compartment, she accepted the rest of the restraint passively. The training and surgical procedures frightened and hurt her, but time passed; and, eventually, she was put ashore with several others in a seaport she would never be able to identify, somewhere far from Boston. Today, she sat in an oversized wooden captain’s chair in a pleasantly decorated room.
