WHERE DAY END, LOVE BEGINS

The day always knew how to exhaust her,By the time evening arrived, the world felt too loud, too demanding, as if it had taken pieces of her without asking. She moved through her routines carefully finishing tasks, answering messages, offering polite smiles doing everything expected of her while saying very little of what she actually felt. When the sun began to sink, she finally exhaled. Dusk was her favorite time of day. Not because it was beautiful though it often was but because it marked an ending. The end of conversations she didn’t want to have. The end of pretending she was stronger than she felt. The end of a version of herself she wore only for daylight. She stood by the window of her small apartment, watching the sky fade from blue to amber, then slowly into shadows. The city outside softened as evening settled in. Voices lowered. Movements slowed. Somewhere in the distance, lights flickered on one by one, like stars learning how to exist on the ground. Night was honest, At night, she didn’t have to explain herself. She changed into comfortable clothes, the kind she would never wear outside, and let her hair fall loose around her shoulders. The mirror caught her reflection briefly, and she looked away. It wasn’t that she disliked what she saw, she simply didn’t know how to look at herself without seeing everything she’d learned to hide. Dinner was simple and quiet. No television, no music. Just the soft hum of the world winding down around her. She liked it that way. Silence gave her room to think, though sometimes it also gave space for memories she wasn’t ready to revisit. She carried her mug to the balcony and stepped outside. The air was cooler now, gentler. Somewhere below, laughter drifted upward, distant and fleeting. She wrapped her fingers around the warm cup and leaned against the railing, staring into the darkening sky. This was the moment she felt most like herself. Not the version others knew. Not the one who endured. But the one who felt deeply, quietly, intensely. She had learned long ago that love was not something to rush toward. Love asked for vulnerability, and vulnerability had once cost her more than she could afford to lose. Since then, she had kept her heart carefully guarded, allowing it to beat but never to reach. Yet, in the stillness of the evening, something restless stirred inside her. A longing she couldn’t name. She told herself it was just loneliness everyone felt it sometimes. She took a slow sip from her mug, unaware that this night this ordinary, quiet night was the final moment before her carefully balanced world began to shift. Someone whose path was already bending gently toward hers but Love hadn’t arrived yet but it was close. And it would begin exactly where she felt safest when the day finally ended.
