When I get back downstairs, I walk up to Noah on his right side since I know what he wants to do and slide my left hand into his right hand and look up at him and smile. He clears his throat and says "can I have everyone's attention" all the conversations stop and Noah looks down at me and smiles then says "I know these past few days have been hell for all of us more so to some of than others, but I know we all want to move on. I realized something a while ago, and everything that has happened recently just confirmed it so, last night I asked Shelly to marry me, and she said yes."
Everyone cheered and hugged us. My dad just smiled, came over, and hugged me tightly. I looked up at him and said "you knew didn't you" he smiled really big and said "yes, Noah asked me for your hand a while ago he had even shown me the ring, but he wanted to wait for the right moment. That is why when you told me you had broken up with him, I was stunned." I just look at him and smile. June claps her hands and says "change of plans you kids invite your friends over for a party tonight to celebrate the engagement at around ten tonight. Lee calls Rachel and invite her to dinner so we can celebrate having Elle back and the future Mr. and Mrs. Noah Flynn o.k." We all say O.K. June looks at me and says "let's go we need to get you a gorgeous dress for tonight we will cover up the burns, so they don't bother you o.k. And get the food decorations for the party we will let the boys get the drinks and move the furniture. I hear Noah tell Lee "just invite people to the party do not tell them exactly why I want to announce it officially you can tell Rachel since she is coming to dinner but let her know it is a secret o.k." Lee says, "got it, bro, I figured that I said it was because we finally got our Elle back."
When we came back not only did we find me the perfect dress and get everything for the party June insisted on me getting my hair, makeup and nails did at the salon so I looked picture perfect for the announcement. I didn't realize that she had texted Noah and told him to tell the guys to go to their room and no peeking because she had a surprise for them and they couldn't see it until it was complete. She sent me with my dress and new shoes to the guest room to finish getting ready. I could hear the guys downstairs talking, "well everything is ready here we just need to put up the decorations and all the food out then get dressed since we already hit the showers."
The dress June and I found was a simple cream-colored a-line dress with a lace-covered bodice with sleeves that hit just above my elbows; the skirt had a satin finish that flared out and hit just above my knees. I slipped on the matching high heeled shoes. As per Joan's instructions, I texted her and asked if everyone was ready. She responded with yes and at 6:00 pm when I slowly descended the stairs. The look on Noah's face was worth waiting to see Noah until my look was complete. He met me at the bottom of the stairs and told me "you are the gorgeous woman in the world I hope you know that" I could feel my cheeks turning red when I realized June had everyone there to witness me coming down including Rachel.
We left shortly after that and enjoyed a nice leisurely meal; We talked about our futures and where things were going. June couldn't stop talking about wanting to plan our wedding as soon as possible. It was Noah that said "Mom we have to wait at least until Elle graduates from High School" and she finally relented.
It was almost 9 pm when we arrived back at the Flynn's house and shortly after that our parents left to give us the house just as Jason was about to ring the doorbell. I walked up to him and hugged him just as he said congratulations you two. I giggled and looked at Noah, and he said sorry he couldn't get a flight out right away, so he was staying at a hotel close by. I texted him telling him you had said yes and I was able to catch him before he booked his flight and told him about the party and invited him I hope you don't mind Shelly" I look at Noah, and I tell him "of course not he is your roommate and the two of you have become close. I have a feeling you two are going to have the kind of friendship Lee, and I have so I am cool you deserve a best friend too babe" Noah leans down and kisses me gently and says "o.k. it is getting close to the time to tell all our friends." At that, I reach into the little matching purse I had with me and pull out two satin gloves and pull them on all the way up to the bottom of the sleeves of my dress. I look up at Noah see the question in his eyes and say "don't worry after we announce our engagement I am not putting them back on it is just so no one guesses it was your mom's idea" He just smiles and says o.k. Let's do this.
