The news of the vision and discovery of the Holy Lance spread quickly through the city and was a huge boost to the morale of the Crusaders. Their leaders held a meeting that evening to discuss their situation in the city palace. They had gathered in a large chamber and sat around a long table, in the middle of which was a white cloth displaying the holy relic found by Peter Bartholomew. Sitting in front of the holy relic was Count Raymond. He was alone for the first time in the leaders’ meeting without Bishop Adhemar, who was too weak to leave his living quarters. Raymond looked around at the faces of the other leaders, many of whom wore frowns of skepticism and were whispering to one another in suspicion.
