I headed them to the next challenge, but no one knew what it would be. They were all wondering what it could be. Kenzie was thinking about what they would have to face once they got there. She knew none of them would understand what they are about to face. It is some new hybrid that her Aunt created in a lab. She knew it would be hard to beat. They were driving for a while when Kenzie needed everyone to stop moving around and eat something before they continued on to the next challenge. Plus, she wanted to let everyone know what she knew about what they would be facing. Everyone pulled off the road got something to eat and stretched their legs. Then Kenzie called a meeting for everyone to gather around.
“What’s up Kenzie?” Scott asked her while everyone else shook their head
“We need to talk about what we will face here soon,” Kenzie announced
“We know we have two more challenges to face. So what’s there to talk about?” Dusty asked her with annoyance in his voice.
“One Dusty you talk that way again and it will be the last time you do. I will not take that from you. You have kept me in the dark took me away from things I never knew about. So this attitude of yours will stop. I have more to tell then just about the challenges coming up. But if you think you're too good to hear then go wait in the car and I will have no one inform you of s**t. DO I make myself clear?” Kenzie gave a stern look at Dusty that shut him up cold. He knew he was pushing her, but he still thought she was too young for any of this and knew nothing that was really going on. He should know better but he can’t help he still believe in the old ways.
“Now that has gotten taken care of. Can we please get down to business?” Adam asked everyone
Everyone shook their head they were ready to hear what Kenzie had to say. Adam looked at Kenzie to let her know that she could start the meeting.
“We all know that we have two more challenges ahead. That is not what I want to talk about. I want to talk about what we will face once we get past the challenges. My Aunt has made a different hybrid in a lab. It will be hard to beat. This hybrid can change into over one kind of animal. I am not sure of what all the animals it can be or how many. I know it can fly and swim it is strong with fast reflexes. I just need us all to be at our best. So rest up and stay focus and we will get through this. Thank you, we need to get going now.” Kenzie explained what she knew and then let them know they need to get moving so they wouldn’t be late, but she knew they had a question. They would just have to wait till after the next challenge.
“Kenzie you know they have a question, You can’t expect them not to.” Adam tried to talk to her about all of this.
“I know. The question will have to wait till after the next challenge. It will come up soon.” Kenzie told him without looking at him
“Kenzie your changing and I can see it and feel it. Let me help you with this. Talk, please.” Adam was begging her to let him in
“Yes, I’m changing. I will let you in when the time is right. Just not now. I know you don’t understand, but there's something a woman just needs to do by herself and not let a man help her. She has to prove to herself and everyone else that she is strong enough and wise enough to do this on her own and when to know to let others help. You will just have to trust me.” Kenzie told Adam all that she could and then closed her eyes to take a nap.
Adam pov
Why is she pushing me away? I don’t understand where she is going with all of this. I can feel her turmoil and I wait to make it stop. I know I need to trust her she knows what she is doing, but the need to protect her is always there and I feel I am failing at that. She somehow knew things and I’m not sure how she knows all of this or where she is getting her information from. I need her to talk so I can at least understand all of this. I will get her to talk once we face this new hybrid and we have Colt’s son back. Then she will talk before we do anything else.
Adam closed his eye to rest since it was the only thing he would do right now. Everyone had so much on their mind and so many questions they wanted to ask. They seemed to drive for hours when Adam’s phone went off. He woke answered his phone.
“Hello,” Adam said into the phone
“Adam there is something in the road,” Colt told him
“Can you tell what it is?” Adam Asked him
“No, but wake Kenzie and see how we all should handle this,” Colt said then hung up.
Adam was contemplating if he wanted to wake her until he looked over and seen that her eyes were open and she was looking right at him. He felt guilty for not waking her sooner than now.
“I know you would not wake me. It’s ok Adam. I know you just want to keep me safe and help me, there is just something you can’t help with and you need to accept that.” She told him that and then got out of the car and walked to the front of the other car to where Colt was.
“What do you see Colt?” Kenzie asked when she reached his side
“It looks like something is blocking our path. Can we have one flyer fly over it to see or do you think it would be to risk?” Colt asked Kenzie about what she thought.
“I have a better idea than that. I just figured out I could do this, and it's how I have been getting some of my information.” Kenzie said to him
Colt looked at her funny, just as Kenzie bent down to the ground and put her hand to the ground. She made these funny noises and the next thing you see is all these bugs come up from the ground and walk towards the thing blocking their path.
“What are they doing and how did you do that?” Colt asked her
“I ask the bugs to go check out the blockage of the path. To tell me what it is or if there is any danger there. I can talk to the birds as well and other things. They tell me what I need to know and feed me information.” She explained to everyone was around to hear her.
The next thing we know one of the bugs came and landed on Kenzie shoulder. Then Kenzie turned around to look at everyone.
“We have three unknown wolf's up ahead. I do not understand if they are from your pack or not Colt. Then bugs can’t tell me that. I will need you to check out that information is careful they are a hostel.” Kenzie reported to them all
Colt takes six of his wolfs with him and they circle around to where the three are waiting. He gets a whiff of them and notices they are three of his pack members but he smells something off on them. He told the six wolfs that he had with him through the mind link they just needed to knock them out so they could have Kenzie look them over. They all agreed and went to knock out their fellow pack members. It wasn’t easy, and it hurt one of the six a little so he will need to rest until they get to the main area.
“Kenzie can you help them? I smell something off about them.” Colt asked her with pleading eyes
“Stand back and let me see,” Kenzie responded
Everyone took a step back and waited to see what Kenzie would do or say next.
“Adam and Plato can you come here. I need you guys to find a herb and a root. It’s the only way I can get them back to normal. They have gotten poisoned in a way. So that herb and root will help them. Hurry they have little time.” Kenzie said
“What do they look like? How much time are we talking about?” Adam asked her
“It will be a root of a lilac plant and herb of the rose dragon. I will need to make them drink the mixture, they have till sundown. I’m sorry but after that, I cannot save them.” Kenzie told them
“Ok, we are leaving now be back as soon as we can,” Plato said
“Colt, I need water and fire. They have to drink it hot and then sleep. It’s the only thing I can do for them. She gave them something like wolfsbane and dragon breath to poison them.” Kenzie said with remorse in her voice.
Colt and a few others got to work on gathering water and building a fire. After a few hours, Adam and Plato returned with everything. Kenzie took the root and the herb from Adam and Plato, then she grinds them up and put them in the water to a boil. Once it was all ready she had Colt wake the guys one at a time. She let him know that they will fight to want to drink this and we need to make them. That is what Colt did. He made of them drink it and knock them back out once they had. That way they could rest till morning.
“Thank you, Kenzie for doing all that you could to save my wolves. Adam and Plato thank you, for finding the herb and the root.” Colt told each of them
“we need No thanks, we are glad to help,” Kenzie spoke for them all. Then they all got back into the cars and headed to the next challenge. After another hour of driving, they reach the challenge. Kenzie, Adam, and Colt walk to the guards to hear what the challenge would be.
“I see we have some challengers that made it past the first gate. You seem to be smart or very lucky. I have two brain teasers for you. You must get them both right or you do not pass. Do you all understand?” The first guard asked them
“Yes” All three replied
“Good. Here is your first teaser. When you have me, you immediately want to share me. Then if you share me, you no longer have me. What am I?” The guard asked them
“It’s a secret” Colt replied
“You are correct. The second teaser. What can you hold without using your hands? The answer please.” The second guard asked them
“Hang on give us a minute to answer,” Colt said to them
They talked about it amongst themselves and came to answer that they all agreed on.
“It’s your breath. You can hold it without using your hands.” Adam replied to the guards
“You are correct. You may pass.” The guards said together
They got back into their cars and drove through the gate to go to the final challenge. They knew the last one would be the hardest yet. Will they be able to get past the final challenge or will they end up died before they can reach their destination? That is running through everyone’s mind.
