Shane reached the third floor, went straight to Simone’s room, and knocked on the door. There was no answer at first and he assumed she was still asleep. He knocked louder. This time he heard a faint voice from the other side of the door. “What?” “Simone. I need to talk to you.” He heard sheets moving and the creak of the bed as she moved around in it; he hoped that meant she was getting out of it. He then heard what sounded like someone dressing. Finally, the door opened a few inches.
