Point of View:
Tyler Baile
“Oh Xander,” Anastasia mumbled breaking my train of thought.
“Xander?” I asked myself.
“What did you say Tyler?” Anastasia asked as she shot up.
“Nothing just repeating what you said which was Xander.”
“Never say that name again please it brings up awful memories,” Anastasia muttered.
“Okay now you get some sleep,” I said to her. She nodded and laid back down. I looked in the rear view mirror for the first time and was distracted by my reflection. I looked different, but what was it?
“Tyler, if must wonder why you look different it is because you are maturing. You are not the same teenager I met months ago and that is a good thing. Now stop thinking so loud because the blood connection is strong today,” Anastasia said.
“Only because you haven’t fed in two days,” I told her.
“True,” She smiled. I smiled with her for the time being until I saw the boarder.
“Hey do you smell that?” I asked her as I caught whiff of wood and decay. We were both smelling the air and searching the Mexican border as we neared closer.
“Tyler, it’s an ambush, you know they will take us if we don’t cross that boarder,” Anastasia said now fully awake in the sun.
“I do, and I am sorry if they take me. I know how much you have sacrificed to keep me safe,” I told her as I checked the rear view mirror. “Hey I know it is a little late but I hope this charm will help you,” I said giving her a golden bracelet.
“Tyler is that what I think it is?”
“Yup it’s a blood sapphire, it took forever to charm FYI,” I said as I noticed several SUV’s coming up on our tail. “I was saving it for Mexico as your birthday present since my last one was left in Canada. I know how much you missed the sun.”
“Tyler this means I can go out again this is the greatest gift anyone has given me,” Anastasia said hugging me from behind.
“Good now, if you had a gun it would be most useful right now,” I said as two SUV’s moved to block us in.
“I’m on it,” she said as she slipped on the bracelet. “Roll back the sunroof,” Anastasia said as she loaded a police issued gun.
“Go,” I said as I hit the gas cutting off the SUV. Anastasia crawled into the front passenger seat before sticking her torso out of the sunroof.
“Eat bullets you cocksuckers!” Anastasia fired the first bullet at the SUV to the right of the Camery. The large car swerved to miss but rolled into the ditch. Anastasia turned her gun on the three SUV’s still behind us. She fired two shots at the windshield only to miss the driver. The passenger of one of the SUV’s fired back at her. Anastasia screamed as one of them grazed her upper shoulder. “Speed up and get into the fast lane, then I’ll get a better shot!” She yelled down to me.
“I’m on it!” I jerked the steering wheel hard to the left and hit the gas.
“When I say break hit the brakes okay?”
“Are you freaking mad woman?”
“Just a little,” Anastasia laughed, “break now!” I slammed on the breaks hard and as I did Anastasia fired three shots, one bullet in each front driver side wheel. “Hit the gas!” I did as I was told and sped up as the three drivers lost control of their SUV’s. Anastasia dropped back down to the passenger seat. “Wow what a rush!!!! It was the greatest experience ever,” Anastasia said as she beamed me a smile.
“What you have done that maneuver before,” I reminded her.
“But never in the sun,” She reminded me. “The ambush isn’t over is it?” She asked me noticing how rigid I was.
“All the armed guards are disguised. There are seven werewolves two vampires and the rest are witches,” I informed her.
“How many is that exactly?”
“Twenty witches, so we know they really want me,” I said to her looking grimmer than before, “I just don’t know why.”
“And we are not going to find out right?”
“Exactly,” I smiled.
“So what is the plan?”
“Run through!”
“What there are civilians in the way,” Anastasia said to me.
“We won’t go through the normal way. They’d expect that right so,” I jerked the steering wheel left, “we go through the wall.”
“WHAT!”
“Take the wheel,” I ordered. We did the Chinese fire drill and switched seats. I stood through the sunroof and grabbed my wand and point it at the very near wall. “Dracken Prouse!” A giant hole formed in the wall and Anastasia hit the gas. I got back into the car and smiled as we started the escaped from America.
“Less than a mile until we hit Mexico,” Anastasia said with a smile as we pushed 110 miles per hour.
“OH my god! We did it,” I had spoken to soon. Fire rained down on us as we crossed the border. “You have got to be shitting me,” I muttered as Anastasia swerved in and out of fire pits. I crawled out of the sunroof and drew my wand as more fire rained down. “Waya!” Water sprayed out my wand and put out the fires ahead.
“Werewolves nine o’clock,” Anastasia called out. I swiveled to the right and yelled out loud; “Boontra!” a massive dust devil swept through the wall of half man half creatures and carried them away.
“Suck on my wand you half breed!” I yelled at them.
“Hold on,” Anastasia yelled. The car veered left jostling me around slightly. “Sorry. Hold on again.” The car veered right and slammed on its breaks. I swiveled to 12 o’clock to see two vampires with about ten witches in front of the car.
“Get out of the car Tyler Baile,” Said the palest vampire I had ever seen.
“Why?”
“You have been summoned by the council,” said the other vampire.
“Yea I know,” I retorted back.
“So stop being insolent and come with us,” said the first vampire.
“If I say no,” I asked curiously.
“The witches execute you and we’ll rip Anastasia limb from limb and feast on her flesh. So chose your words carefully.”
“Don’t tell him what to do Cyrus,” Anastasia said as she poked her head out the driver’s window. The vampire Cyrus gave a throaty growl as his eyes turned blood red.
“An, watch it,” I whispered. Anastasia instantly changed when I called her by her nickname. Hey what’s up? I twirled my finger and she looked around as the dust cleared. Frick we are surrounded. “Yup,” I muttered.
“What was that Tyler?” Cyrus asked.
“Oh nothing,” Anastasia rolled up her window and had a stare down with the other vampire as I stalled, “you see Cyrus. For eight months I have been on the run from the Grand Council.”
“I know such a long time it has been for you.”
“Yeah, I know my parents are dead and the only people I can think to blame are none other than the council,” I said staring him down, “though I am not entirely sure because I have amnesia thanks to a man who attacked me in Paris.”
“They have the answers you seek dear child. You must be tired after running all this time.”
“Truth be told I am tired. Tired of having to look over my shoulder from the likes of you and you know what? I am good at it too so, why stop?” I asked.
“Excuse me?” Cyrus asked just confused as the rest of the group. I dropped back into the car and Anastasia put the car in reverse and sped out in style. The car whipped around and weaved in and out of gun shots and spells strikes.
“We are surrounded and where are we going to go?” I asked Anastasia.
“Oh believe me if I knew we’d be there but I have a crazy idea that might kill us both,” Anastasia said.
“Do it!”
“That’s the plan,” she said. She pulled a U turn and headed straight for Cyrus, the plus one vampire and the twenty witches. “They can’t take us in if they are dead right?”
“So true,” I pointed my wand up, “samora.” The sky’s dark clouds that hung over the vampires vanished and only the plus one squirmed and burned.
“s**t they knew we’d pull something like that.”
“I’ve got one more trick up my sleeve,” I said I pointed my wand to the ground, “Vocra!” the ground began to shake and quake and witches and Cyrus soon started to wobble and fall. Anastasia hit the gas once again and rode through the blockade of the supernatural. While hitting a few witches and ran down the nameless vampire. “We are home free,” I told Anastasia as we noticed we weren’t being followed.
“Do jinx…” Anastasia was cut off by the sound our rear passenger tire going out.
“Oh s**t!” I screamed as I grabbed the emergency handle. The car fish tailed and Anastasia struggled to get the camery back under control.
“Tyler be ready for,” the car’s back end rose up and soon we were balancing on the nose of the car, “this!” The back end of the car started leaning to the right and soon made contact with earth.
“Anastasia!” I yelled as reached for her hand. She grabbed mine just as the car started to roll. I shut my eyes and counted how many times we rolled. “One…two…three…four…” My seatbelt came lose and I hit my head on the dashboard as the car came to a stop.
“Tyler, you okay?” Anastasia asked out loud in the car. “Tyler?” Anastasia looked over at me and screamed. “Help! Someone help him!” Anastasia trashed wildly in the car until she managed to kick her door open. She ripped off her seatbelt and ran around the car and yanked my door off.
“Anastasia,” I mumbled.
“Oh thank god! I feared the worst, come on before they come for us,” Anastasia said picking me up in her arms.
“Too late for that my dear,” Cyrus said from behind her.
“Give up already!” Robinson said coming out from behind Cyrus.
“Oh lover boy,” Anastasia muttered.
“I thought I smelled bastard,” I whispered.
“Even dazed and injured Tyler never misses a chance to insult me,” Daniel said.
“Not my fault that I hate you,” I said as Anastasia put me down.
“Well now that we are all reacquainted the grand council is waiting for us,” Cyrus said as he turned away and started walking.
“Tyler you know the routine,” Daniel said.
“Yup,” I turned around with my hand behind me, “Screw you.” I donkey kicked and nailed him in the sack.
“Oh I am hurt baby; I got you something better than the silver bracelets,” Daniel wrapped silver chains around hands and waist, “aren’t these better?”
“Totes ma goats,” I rolled my eyes and flipped him of the best I could.
“Oh and I got a matching pair for you too Anastasia,” Daniel said sheepishly.
“Robinson, go to hell,” Anastasia said to him before assuming the position.
You know Anastasia I actually think he likes you. I thought about saying but judging on the look she gave me she heard my thoughts. I just smiled and chuckled. “So Robinson are we taking a car this time?” I asked already thinking of an escape plan.
“No sweetness, we are flying this time so escape won’t be as easy. Oh and it is a private jet too,” Daniel said.
Can you fly a plane? One coughs yes two coughs no. Anastasia coughed twice and I wanted to rip someone’s throat out than be taken by the council. I searched my mind to find some other way of escape, just before Robinson hit me over the head with a gun.
“Serves you right for trying to think of escape,” he mumbled
“Thanks for the splitting head ache,” I spat back at him as he lead me to a SUV. Once seated and buckled in I looked to see who was in my car. I had Robinson and the rest were strangers, the windows were blacked out so I had no way of telling where I was. “How cozy,” I said scooting closer to one of my guards, “and yes I’m hitting on you in the hopes you will free me,” I said with a smile. The guard completely ignored me which I didn’t mind after all he was so not my type. “Excuse me Danny when do I get my bathroom break and one phone call?” I teased him as he watched me curiously.
“Does that halfwit ever shut up?” The driver asked Robinson.
“What was that jerk wagon?” I exclaimed.
“Never does but you get used to it,” Robinson told the driver.
“If you are trying the reverse psychology trick on me so I shut up it won’t work,” I announced as I lay back in my seat.
“If he doesn’t shut up I will sedate him,” The guard closest to me mumbled.
“What was that? A little louder please, I half deaf,” I told to the guard as I leaned on him. He shrugged me off and rolled his eyes. I sat in my seat and played different scenarios in my head. My particular favorite one is where I slipped through my chains and used them to choke out my guard and blow the side door off and ride it to safety. I smiled to myself as the scenarios kept coming.
“Tyler why are you smiling,” Robinson asked looking at me, “you are about to be trialed for murder and treason.”
“Oh nothing I’m just thinking about happy things, such as; taking out this SUV and heading to Brazil.”
“Just how are you going to do that?”
“Like this,” I said as I slid both my hands from the chains and placed them on my lap, “and like this,” I took the chain and whipped them at the guard’s face. I hit him square in the nose and he cried out in pain. I used my heel to kick Robinson in the jaw and pinned him to his seat. I unbuckled myself and grabbed the door handle and pulled back the sliding door. “Until we meet again lover boy,” I said as I rolled out of the car onto to runway. When I came to a stop I coughed out, “Ouch, I was expecting there to be a ditch.” I got up and made a run for the ten foot fence just forty meters away.
“Stop him but don’t kill him!” Cyrus yelled out.
“The only way I’ll stop running is if you kill me!” I hollered over my shoulder as I reached the fence.
“Shoot him!”
“Crap,” I muttered as I started to scale the fence. Pop! I felt a sharp sting in my lower back and I slowed my climb. I started panting and started to feel woozy. “Come on, all most there Tyler,” I told myself as I continued to climb. My vision blurred and I lost my footing.
“He’s gonna fall!” Robinson cried out as though he sounded a thousand miles away. He was right I fell but I don’t remember hitting the ground, I just remember falling asleep and having it being the most peaceful sleep ever. That was until the dream came…
