Chloe's POV After wrapping the towel around my body, I reached for another smaller one, sashayed over to the bathroom counter with it, and carefully towel-dried my hair, letting it fall limply while the long damp curls cascaded down my back, reaching just a few inches above my waist. My bathroom slippers padded on the wooden floor as I made my way from the bathroom to my closet in search of an outfit to wear. I pulled a comfortable-looking round-necked t-shirt from the hanger and a pair of bum shorts from a drawer dedicated to keeping all my shorts. After putting on a lacy black underwear set, I pulled on my clothes and headed towards the kitchen to look for any edible food to serve as my brunch since I had missed the chance to eat breakfast. After I was done with my meal I headed out to the garden just outside the mansion, I made sure to water everything to keep it fresh and beautiful. After that, I heard the loud sound which signified a pack meeting was to be held and all the members of the pack were to come out to the shifting hill. I had to take Dexter's black Audi car and drive myself there as I couldn't walk all the way there. It was quite far from Dexter's mansion. I got there a few minutes later and all the other wolves had also assembled there awaiting the alpha's grand entrance. I stood amidst them but made sure I was at a spot where Dexter could easily find me. I kept grinning from ear to ear, knowing what the announcement would be about. The noise in the crowd slowly dispersed as Dexter made his grand entrance, the werewolves parted the way for him and I waited in anticipation, I didn't have to wait for long, and soon I saw his usual blank and cold face as he passed by with his omega Olivia slowly behind him as usual. Once he got to his position, he began by clearing his throat. He had that blank expression that would make many think he was about to speak of something bad, but it was just Dexter's natural essence. Whenever he wanted to announce whether good or bad, he always made sure to protrude a dark domineering aura as the Alpha and leader of the pack. "Good day everyone" he finally began "Today as promised. I'll be choosing the female werewolf who will become my mate and Luna of the pack. As you all know, whatever decision I take is for the betterment of this pack. As Alpha, I must protect every one of you from what has threatened us most. The rogue werewolves." As he mentioned them, sudden murmurs echoed within the crowd and everyone seemed to have distant looks on their faces. I for one thought back to the day I met face-to-face with a rogue werewolf. I could've died that day, if not for Dexter's help. It was a cold day, winter. I had been training at the borders of the pack because I needed a desolate area to fully concentrate on training. When they attacked, there were three werewolves all gathered around me. They looked just like regular werewolves but they all had scars on their skin. I tried fighting them off in my human form while they all transformed into their wolf forms. I tried hard and was able to weaken two of them and they sustained quite a handful of injuries but that last one was enough to kill me. Luckily Dexter arrived right on time in his regal wolf form and finished them off. I felt so protected in Dexter's arms and that incident made me love him even more and more. "So today, I am announcing that I am making Olivia Robert, my werewolf omega and long-time friend and adviser. My mate and Luna of the pack "My whole world screeched to a halt as I heard what he had said. I could do nothing but freeze up in shock and confusion. When had he suddenly decided to make Olivia his Luna? What about me? The whole crowd cheered happily while taking side glances at me. Reina for one wasn't cheering, she came to my side and tried to envelop me in a hug but I immediately pulled away and went up to Dexter. "Why? Why Olivia? I'm supposed to be Luna. I'm supposed to be your mate" I yelled at him with tears trickling down from my eyes and past my cheeks. "Because Olivia is more fit to be Luna than you," he said simply with his still blank expression that hurt me more than ever. "How? We both know I have more strength than Olivia. She can't take on a rogue werewolf because she's too weak too but I have always been the strongest in the pack and the strongest should be Luna" I yelled and kept crying uncontrollably. "A werewolf with no strength who could shift is better than a werewolf with the mightiest strength that couldn't switch," he said simply "How?" I asked brazenly "Because one who has been rejected by the moon goddess, is not fit to be Luna " I felt my breath hitch as he said those words to me. I looked at him in disbelief, when did he conclude that? Was it after he made use of my body last night or was it after he had professed his love for me this morning? I just couldn't believe this was truly happening to me, I had always stood by his side and supported every one of his many decisions but this was just injustice being done to me. Why Olivia? I looked towards her shaking from the pain and betrayal to find her smirking at me. I turned away and got into the black Audi car I had parked a few miles away from where the announcement was held. I drove as fast as I could to the mansion and ran up to Dexter's room to grab my things as it would be inappropriate now to have my belongings there. I held my luggage in my hand and got to the stairs to find Olivia there on her way up. "What is it? Why are you crying dear? I'm Luna now so you can tell me anything that's bothering you" Her laughter is so irritating to me. "I feel so sorry for you Chloe. You tried all you can and gave your all to become his mate but I didn't have to put in any effort before recognizing the one more fit to be Luna. All I had to do was be by his side and play my part, but you my dear were used as a bed warmer by the one you genuinely loved." I knew her words were to hurt my feelings but I tried to focus my attention on something else. "You know what? "She came closer to my ears and whispered. "I am pregnant for the Alpha" I tried so very hard to bottle up the emotions inside me but at the moment it was just too much that it turned into anger and I couldn't help but push Olivia away from me in anger sending her down the high stairs and completely passed out at the last floor.
