Shuji leaned against the terrace of the mansion, his gaze sweeping over the happy faces of the whole family. Memories of his own family gatherings flooded his mind.
“Are you searching for your girlfriend?” Lixue asked, leaning against the iron railing and resting her elbows on her knees, her body turned towards their house.
“Yes, I’ve been searching for her presence since I arrived on the island a few days ago. Lixue, what will you do now that you know I know who you are?” Shuji asked, his eyes still fixed on the people.
“I won’t do anything, but you?” Lixue replied.
“As I said, I’ll do what I promised. No one will know who you are. Papa trusted you,” Shuji assured Lixue.
“Be cautious of your stalker, Shuji. They have the same target as your father—you’re being followed by Aiya Gayag, and his father is involved in an illegal business. I’m not sure if there’s any truth to the rumors about Drick being evidence against Don Emilio. We even discovered that they’re related,” Lixue warned Shuji.
“Why are you helping me?” Shuji asked Lixue.
“Because you’re the son of my godfather, Shuji. And I owe my godfather what I want in return is to help you, even though I have my own problems,” Lixue explained to Shuji.
“This island is vast. Why don’t you live here and manage it yourself?” Shuji suggested, still not facing Lixue, who was also turned away.
“I don’t want to relive the painful past,” Lixue replied, raising her hands to stretch them out.
“You said your mother and sister are dead?” Shuji asked, turning to face Lixue.
“Yes, she’s dead, but I know my sister is alive. I’ll search the world for them all to complete myself,” Lixue answered, a smile playing on her lips afterward.
“Aiya Gayag, Erika mentioned to me that she became our schoolmate when she met you in the lobby the day you arrived. And I must admit, I still want to know who you truly are. Yes, you claimed to be an angel, but I still don’t believe it’s what we witnessed, whether it’s true or not. Shuji and I stared at Lixue’s back.”
“Check, hmm…it’s true, but in your mind, he doesn’t believe in what your heart perceives; he believes what it sees. You’re not hallucinating or rolling your eyes,” Lixue replied with a smile to Shuji.
“Will you teach me now?” Shuji asked Lixue when he turned his gaze.
“It’s late at night. For now, we’ll head to the tourist spot of Palawan, our island. I’ll wait for you at the entrance of the resort,” Lixue replied before leaving Shuji. She went straight to her bedroom, took the robe, and went into her bathroom to bathe.
“What’s wrong?” Shuji said to himself, looking at Lixue’s retreating figure.
He also walked downstairs to the kitchen. When he arrived, he got a glass and a pitcher, filled the glass with water, and drank it.
“That’s all you look like?” Lixue said, almost spilling water from Shuji’s mouth when he was surprised.
“Why not?” Shuji replied, wiping his mouth with his palm and putting down the glass with water.
“There’s nothing like that. Come on, Shuji,” Lixue said and walked away.
Shuji followed her and asked where the person he saw in the underground was. Shuji saw the person he was looking for standing outside, waiting in front of the car.
“She treats this person differently,” Shuji said to himself, looking at the man.
Lixue and Shuji got into the car, and Shuji was surprised when the man took a seat next to Lixue, which his bodyguard rarely did. Another bodyguard took the driver’s seat.
Shuji was just staring at the two people next to him, who were serious-looking and quiet.
“Where do you want to go?” Lixue asked Shuji without looking back.
“People haven’t been there?” Shuji said. He knew it was impossible that there was a place in Palawan.
Shuji turned around when Lixue spoke in another language to the bodyguard.
“Rang women ba ta dai dao zhiyou women zhidao di difang.” Lixue directed her words to their bodyguard, who was driving the car.
(Let’s take him to the place we are the only ones who know.)
Shuji noticed the bodyguard nod, and they left the forest. As they reached the city road, the car turned left.
“Are we going back to Manila?” Shuji asked Lixue, turning his gaze to her.
“We won’t go through here either,” Lixue replied, looking at Shuji.
Shuji watched the ride until they arrived at a large tree. They heard a rush of water coming from behind.
“There’s a waterfall behind that?” Shuji asked Lixue.
“Did you hear the sound of the water, Shuji? You are the chosen one because a mortal cannot hear the sound of the waterfall from behind the tree. This place is so mysterious that only an ordinary person can hear the water.” Lixue explained. Shuji remained silent, processing her words.
Before they disembarked, they parked the vehicle on the side of the tree. As they walked, Shuji was surprised when suddenly, more trees appeared in their path.
“The trees you see now are the burnt trees behind the lone tree we passed earlier,” Lixue said, noticing Shuji’s surprise.
“This is what the tree burn looked like earlier?” Shuji asked, impressed by the appearance of the tree.
They continued walking until they reached the bridge where the waterfall poured cold water.
“Wow!” Shuji exclaimed in amazement, raising his hand and pointing at the waterfalls.
“The water coming out of the underwater pool is from there, Shuji. Haven’t you ever swam in the underwater pool from here, and the water flows from there,” Lixue said, taking Shuji’s cellphone.
Lixue simply nodded and took a picture, showing the result of her action.
“Blank? A tree doesn’t want to reveal its beauty like this,” Shuji said, observing the result of Lixue’s photo.
“Yes, because the forest is so mysterious that only us and you are allowed to witness its beauty,” Lixue explained to Shuji.
“Who are they really?” Shuji asked his companions.
“You’ll understand me and them when you open your heart,” Lixue replied, smiling afterward.
Lixue handed Shuji his cellphone before they continued walking to the other side. As they walked, they noticed various animals surrounding their path.
“I have a question,” Shuji said, turning back to their starting point.
“What’s your question?” Lixue asked, suddenly bowing down as her wing spontaneously emerged.
“Are they real, and everything I can see right now?” Shuji and I were still in disbelief.
“There’s nothing untrue about what you see now. In fact, ordinary humans don’t see them,” Lixue said, smiling and flying away with the birds.
“What you see is true. Nothing is untrue to them. The only difference is that they’re not visible to mortal beings, except for the father who granted permission to someone.” The bodyguard explained, causing Shuji to turn around.
Shuji understood English somewhat but wasn’t fluent because he wasn’t accustomed to speaking to foreigners.
“Oh?” Shuji said, frowning.
“He said, what you see is real. There’s nothing unreal about them. The only difference is that they can’t be seen by mortal people except the father who allowed it,” another person replied, causing Shuji to nod.
Shuji was surprised to see the genuine smile on Lixue’s lips. He knew he had just witnessed Lixue’s true smile.
Shuji signaled to the two people next to him not to report, as he intended to take a picture of Lixue.
“Thank you. Her smile is beautiful. I’m just happy,” Shuji said when the two looked at him afterward.
“Just be careful, sir. Don’t you have a girlfriend? She might see this as a reason to make Miss Chen jealous,” the bodyguard warned. Shuji recalled his girlfriend in Manila.
After a few hours, the four of them returned to their starting point and the vehicle they had used.
“Thank you, Lixue. I’m glad we went, but it’s a shame I don’t have any memories of it,” Shuji said to Lixue as they drove back to the resort.
Lixue simply smiled at Shuji and turned on his cellphone.
Upon their return to the resort, Shuji and Lixue immediately headed to the underground for training.
