Chapter 01 - Betrayal
The ringing of the phone took a while before it was grabbed by a sweaty hand, “Yes?” The man then hushed the woman beside him by placing his index finger on his lips, the woman could only nod and pressed her naked body closer to the man. A voice of a woman was heard on the other line, “Where are you? It’s almost 9 PM…” The man sighed in irritation and scolded her, “How many times should I tell you that I am working overtime? The market sale is tough these days, the Executives are pressuring me.” There was a bit of silence on the other line as the soft voice sounded again, “Okay, take care...Just remember not to skip your dinner.” The man embraced the woman beside him, bumping his tight chest to her soft one, he replied, “I’m not a child.” His wife seemed to have nodded and said again, “Trevor’s homeroom meeting for parents will be held tomorrow, can you make it?” The woman beside the man was kissing his ears and neck that he needed to push her away before replying, “Yeah, maybe, I can.” he replied with such uncertainty. The wife held the telephone with such an unsettling feeling, she wanted to speak with him more, “Um, how’s work?” The naked woman was already grinding against him and obviously wanted another session, the man got excited and replied, “I’m busy, the paperwork is piling up, will call you when I come home.” he hurriedly said and shut the phone off as they both wrestled against the bed again leaving his wife staring at the telephone. She stood there for a while before finally putting it down. She sighed and turned around. It has been weeks since Cyrus would come home late or sometimes, gets home at dawn. He was the Director of Stonebull Enterprises, the biggest corporation on the whole continent and she completely understands how things ran in his busy workplace since he handle several departments. But it was just recently that he became this busy. She walked to Trevor’s room and gently opened it, it was already dark but the light from the lamp on his study table illuminated the room and his sleeping figure by the bed who seemed to have straightly fallen on the bed without taking his socks off. Talia’s heart softened and walked towards the kid, she sat by the edge of the bed as she took his socks and fixed his position to comfortably sleep on the bed. Trevor was a light sleeper so he woke up from the slight movements, his drooping eyes opened and stared at his mother for a while before hoarsely calling, “Mom?” Talia raised her head and looked at Trevor, she smiled brightly, “Did I wake you up?” Trevor yawned and shook his head, his pouty lips almost bulging. Talia couldn’t help but pinch his soft, fleshy cheeks, “Go back to sleep.” Then kissed his forehead and covered him with the blanket. But she stopped when Trevor suddenly asked, “Dad…” Talia patted his chest, “He’ll arrive later, Dad had a lot of assignments.” Trevor understood as he nodded and rolled on the side to sleep, “Good night.” “Good night, sweetheart,” Talia said and stood to fix the things he had been doing on his study table and saw that it was metal pieces from an object. Talia frowned and turned to her son but seeing that he was about to sleep, she could only sigh and took the pieces to the lower drawer of the table. “Mom,” Talia almost jumped in surprise when Trevor suddenly turned around. “Teacher said both parents are needed for the meeting tomorrow…” It seems like the child was worried about this and Talia could only clench her sweating palms, “Me and your dad…of course.” Her tone carried doubt and even though Trevor was only 7 years old, he was aware of how to read his mother’s mood so he just turned around again and no longer spoke. Talia couldn’t help but feel the pain as she hurriedly went beside him, “Hey, I’m certain about this. Don’t worry, Dad will arrive.” But Trevor no longer spoke as he just closed his eyes. Talia sighed again this night and because the bed of her child was already quite big for him, she took her slippers and settled beside him, embracing him from behind. “Is Mom allowed to sleep here again tonight?” Talia asked and with this question, Trevor nodded without speaking any word. Talia sweetly smiled and pulled the blanket to share with her son. And that night again was also the night where Talia slept in her son’s room without the presence of Cyrus. Morning came and a black, BMW car entered their gate. It parked but the people inside still took their time to kiss and be intimate. Cyrus pulled away, “Behave.” The woman who he had been with kissed his cheeks and giggled as she fixed her eyeglasses, “Okay, Sir.” Cyrus got off from his car, his suit and long jacket made him look like he truly got off from work as well as the woman who went out on the other side of the car door, she was his secretary, Patricia. A geeky-looking lady who had a very nice body that was emphasized in her tight outfit, she followed Cyrus inside his house with a tablet in hand as if they were about to start the day with another work. Cyrus entered the house and that made Talia who was currently cooking breakfast turn her head to the entrance, “Look! Dad’s here!” she said excitingly to Trevor who was already in his school uniform, waiting for breakfast. Trevor's eyes were gloomy and he didn’t reply when his mother told him that his Father was already there. “Trevor.” Talia placed her hands on her waist but Trevor didn’t budge. Only when Cryus arrived at the dining table did Trevor raise his head. “I’m here.” Cyrus declared that made Talia brighten up. “Good Morning Mrs. Hanlock.” Patricia smiled sweetly and followed Cyrus. Talia wiped her hands on her apron and invited them to sit, “Patricia, you’re here! Come, come, join us.” She placed another two plates on the table and took the pancakes she just cooked, “You didn’t tell me that you’ll bring Patricia over, I should have cooked a better breakfast.” Talia said to Cyrus. Cyrus didn’t reply as he settled on his chair. Patricia sat just beside Cyrus, “It’s okay Mrs. Hanlock, your pancakes are still the best.” Talia with her haggard face made a silly smile, “Thank you, Patricia.” Patricia smiled and turned to Trevor who seemed to have gone out of the mood when they arrived, playing with the pancake using his fork, “Hi, Trevor.” Trevor didn’t even glance at her as he stood and took his bag. Talia’s smile went out seeing his sudden behavior, “Trevor!” she called with a frown. But Trevor didn’t even turn back as he strode out of the house. Talia nervously smiled, “Please, wait for a moment.” “You should handle that kid better.” she stopped in her tracks when Cryus spoke. “I-I will.” She replied and ran to chase Trevor. Patricia’s gaze followed Talia’s figure until she finally disappeared. Her kind smile turned to be mischievous as her hand crawled on Cyrus' arms but the man glared at him, “What did I just say earlier?” Patricia stopped and withdrew her hand, she pouted, “Sir, your child seemed too cold and mean.” Cyrus didn’t respond but Patricia continue to blabber, “And your wife is quite a pushover.” Talia finally caught Trevor who was about to enter the car with the driver waiting for him. She grabbed his arm and have him face her, “Trevor, what is that attitude?” Trevor didn’t look at her as he just silently stood. “Trevor!” Talia shakes him, “Don’t be rude to your father like that! Especially to his visitor!” Trevor snickered after her words made Talia frown deeply, “What’s the meaning of that?” Trevor faced his mother, “Mom, I’m okay.” He took her hands off of him, “I’m just experiencing puberty.” he said then entered the car. “Ma’am, should we go ahead?” the driver then asked. Talia snapped and nodded, “Of course, please take care.” she stepped aside as the car moved and left the place. She stood there with her gaze on the back of the car. Thoughts ran into her mind. When she came back to the house, Patricia was already in the living room. “Are you done eating?” Talia wore her smile again, hiding her worries in front of other people. Patricia nodded, “Yes Mrs. Hanlock. Sir Cyrus went to his room to change.” Talia waved her hand, “Just call me Talia, okay? You’ve been working with my husband for a while now, you must feel comfortable here too.” Patricia smiled, “I cannot do that Mrs.Han—“ “Talia. Just Talia.” Patricia stared at her for a while then called, “Talia.” Talia’s expression brightened up, “That’s better! Will help Cyrus first to change. Wait here for a second!” Patricia nodded and when Talia turned away, her expression went down as she criticize the woman inside her head. She was hired as Cyrus' new secretary 3 months ago, and her determination to take back her old lover was great. Patricia wasn’t only Cryus’s secretary but she was his lover when they were in college, even though it was a fleeting relationship, she still succeeded in seducing him one more time behind his wife’s back. And now that she had met the woman several times, she couldn’t help but frown. Nothing was remarkable to her except for her pretty and gentle face. She always wore loose clothes, her hair was always messy and she seemed to be tense all the time making her look like an old maid. Patricia wasn’t hoping for an everlasting relationship with Cyrus because she was aware that the man wasn’t sincere, she was only used to fill his carnal desires which she understand the most. She just hopes that well…live like a queen for even a short while like that woman Talia experiences. Talia knocked on her husband’s room and hearing no reply, she let herself in. The room was empty but the sound of his shower filled the place. Talia then prepared his suit, his watch, and shoes, taking every bit of dust from them. When Cyrus came out with his half-naked body, with his lower body being covered only by a piece of towel, Talia gulped but immediately washed her thought off and said, “I already prepared it.” Cyrus didn’t speak as he walked forward to check and frowned, “The color is ugly.” Talia was taken aback, “But all of them are black.” “Didn’t I tell you to study more about colors?” he turned to her with impatience, “There are black bean, black olive, dim grey, cool black!” he said these words as he shoved the ones Talia prepared for him. Talia didn’t know what to do, he just got angry all of a sudden. “Then I’ll choose—“ Cyrus stopped her, “No need, you can go back now.” Talia stood there confused and nervous. Also, these recent days when he comes home late, he would burst up in anger any minute without definite reason that was why Talia was also afraid if she spoke just a random sentence. “The…homeroom meeting, will you be there?” she asked gently while Cyrus was dressing. The man didn’t reply which just made her panic, “Trevor is anticipating us…” Cyrus still didn’t reply as he took his tie. This was the moment where he frowned, since then, he couldn’t achieve to knot this thing perfectly! Talia saw it and approached, “Let me—“ “You always had my tie crooked.” Cyrus coldly said that made Talia stop on her track. “Patricia! Come here!” he shouted. And after a short second, steps hurriedly came and the lady knocked. “Come in,” Cyrus said and Patricia entered. “Come tie this up for me,” Cyrus said which made Patricia’s eyes lit up, and looked at Talia. “Please,” Talia said because no matter how she practiced, she couldn’t achieve to make a perfect knot on a tie. Patricia smiled and stood close to Cyrus as her slender fingers touched his chest, with intimacy, they both stood against each other that made Talia hang her head low, “I’ll…I think I need to wash some dishes, please tell me if you’re done.” she said and hurriedly left. Patricia heard the door close then went to wrap her arms around Cyrus and kissed him, “Oh, this is exciting.” she said to him. Cyrus didn’t reply as he kissed her neck and stared at the door where Talia left.
