Aaron's POV
Slowly, it began to feel like things were going back to zero. When I had thought all my plans would click the second she signed the contract, this new obstacle showed its head.
" Dammit!. What do you mean, why?" I queried angrily.
" Yes, why?" she fired back with the same angry energy, " What's so important about my name? You said you wanted a wife for whatever reason, and I agreed to it."
" What wife?. My god. I am a twenty-year-old billionaire. Tell me what exactly I would be needing a wife for?."
" I don't understand. There are things you are not telling me. I didn't want to ask why before, but with the way you are behaving I have realised that I would be a fool if I stayed quiet. " she paused briefly, " So now tell me why you asked that we stay married."
" Because......," I opened my mouth to explain, but couldn't figure out how to begin. My greatest plan was spiralling to the ground and I probably couldn't do anything to stop it.
" Because what?..." she
" It's a long story," Hank replied.
" Start from anywhere. I have all day to listen, " she said.
" Yeah, well I don't. If this contract isn't fully valid in the next one hour, I am f****d. This whole thing is f****d. "
" You said something about my last name?. What does that have to do with the contract?"
" Everything. Virtually everything." I replied, but couldn't explain what everything was.
In the end, Hank explained to her, " Aaron's company, Risen Sun Capital, signed a business deal with Oakland Coporation. The deal is almost complete, but there is a clause that obligates him to marry a wife from one of the majority of the Oakland board. That's the Zadinitos. Your Zadinito. And if the marriage does not happen, the deal falls through."
" Okay, now I get it.
" But there is a way out," Hank chirped.
" What's that?,"
" She has to cancel her application. I have a friend from that department who could help us hasten the process. If she gives me her permission, I could place a call with the head of that department and everything will be done within a twinkle. "
" Yes, that's good. Let's do that." Finally, I was breathing again.
" And what makes you think I would want to cancel my application?"
" What?" her words riled my temper again.
" You heard me." she crossed her arms and stared at me squarely, " You wanted a wife as payment for your six hundred thousand, and I agreed. Now you are telling me not to change my name."
" Yes, that's part of our marriage contract."
" Where is it? I can't find it anywhere,"she began, skipping through the papers.
" What do you want?"
" I want to add my own clause to this contract. "
" I see," I knew that you were going to ask for something. Any smart woman would say, " And what are they?"
" First of all, you have to agree to use your status and connections to get me employment at the Cottage and Mills law firm."
" Done."
"At the end of the marriage contract, you'd have to settle me for using my name."
"Done." I knew that was where she was going, and I didn't mind. Well, not when I have only a couple of minutes left. " I will pay you a hundred million as settlement even though you stole six hundred thousand."
" Good," she nodded twice, " And I want a house of my own where I would live during the duration of the contract and after. "
" No, there is no way that's going to happen. You are going to live with me in my condo. That way, there won't be any suspicion. If you want a big house of your own, then get it with the hundred million settlement I will pay you."
Kimberly' s POV
" Fine." I affirmed with a nod, silently very happy I had grabbed the opportunity when it showed its face. Now I knew I was set for life. With the money I could buy whatever I wanted and live my life. All I needed to do now was survive the one year of hell I knew he was going to put me through.
" Okay, so is that all your demands?," I saw glance at his wrist.
" Yes. There is nothing else I can think of right now."
" Okay. Please sign the papers." he turned to Hank and said, " Bring out the prenup." when he noticed my arched brow he added, " It's just formalities. I was advised to do that. I know you don't want my money."
Big lousy liar. I could see in his face what he thought of me. And even though I didn't care, I couldn't deny that I felt pained.
Hank pulled out another set of papers which I easily recognised as prenuptial agreement. After signing it I handed it over to him.
" Now, what next?"
"I will place a video call with the head of the department for a change of name. Then you'd speak with him. Your application will be traced, and when it's found it will be canceled."
" Okay" I nodded. The call was placed and I spoke with the HOD. Then a confirmation email of my cancelation was sent to me. After that, I turned to Aaron.
" Is that all?"
"From my end, yes. Hank is going to go meet with my business partners and the deal will be struck. But in your end, there remains one thing that has already happened yesterday in paper, but we will be doing it tonight."
" What's that?,"
" Our wedding and photoshoot."
