I. Lilith
“The queen must have favored her a lot” a girl whispered as I walked by, and I know they are aware that I have heard them talk about the same thing over and over since I became a head of Medisina de Eab, the kingdom’s highest medicine institution and anyone would dream of being here, so I understand. When I entered the medicine team of the kingdom, I also received a lot of ridicule about how I did not deserve any of it. Eabeai itself is a healer kingdom, but only a credible one is allowed to join the Medisina de Eab, the team who serves the Queen and, most importantly, it receives direct teaching from the fairies that guide this kingdom. Speaking of the army,I have also been a general there since I was just sixteen. It never came down to me how fighting seems to be engraved inside me, it just happened naturally. The way the wind dances with my hand that seems to guide it, the way my heart ignites when I am fighting, I love it. I don’t think I deserve the position though. Eabeai lacks warriors and soldiers. The number of their people involved in warriorship is very little, ranging from seven hundreds to a thousand. “Lilith! I am glad to see you again!” Sonia, the Queen’s lady-in-waiting waved at me while smiling so brightly “Lady Sonia!” I waved back before running to her direction, smiling widely. I missed her, for my whole stay in Eabeai, she became my guardian and took responsibility of me until I decided to enter the military when I was 14. “I heard about the promotion. Congratulations my Lilith” she smiled at me before caressing my face. “I am so worried, do you know that? I can’t sleep peacefully knowing you are out there being a soldier and a doctor at the same time. Can you rest a while?” now her tone changed from being sorrowful to somehow a scolding voice. I couldn’t help but chuckle as I wrapped my arms around her to embrace her. “Did I make you proud, Lady Sonia? I hope I did. Remember our promise that you would allow me to go out of the kingdom once I excel in medicine?” I teased that earned me a light smack to my back as she hugged me back. “i***t. You always make me proud, Lilith,” she softly said. That made my heart swell with so much happiness. The words of others don’t affect me at all when Lady Sonia always assures me that I am doing great. Why would their opinion matter when they didn’t even witness me starting or struggling? The only words that matter to me are those from people who care about me and or those who witness me at my lowest. We went home to our lovely house inside of a Minao Tree. It is a tree that came from our neighboring kingdom, Haringo. Minao Tree also already symbolizes this kingdom, as almost all of our villages here are of Minao Tree. It is a humongous and very stable tree that ensures the safety and security of the people. It’s not shocking that nature dominates the Eabeai considering that fairies live here, and yes, the Eabeian lives in trees. “Why don’t you rest first? I will cook your favorite soup, so you are energized before you head back to your station”, Lady Sonia offered, and she seemed to sense that I would not agree, so she immediately gave me a pout, knowing well that I easily give in. “You seem to hate me cooking with you huh?” I also pout that earned a laugh from her “I just want you to rest, 2 days aren’t enough for your body to replenish the energy you need, that’s why let your amazing Sonia handle your nutrition okay?” she sweetly smiled at me, I pouted my lips more before nodding. I headed to my room as my legs felt like cooked noodles. I desperately needed to lie down. A tired sigh escaped me as I lay down on my bed. Soreness is now evident in me; I feel like all of the pain and tiredness I endured this hell week came down on me today. I love healing people, from their physical to emotional wounds. The triumph I feel every time I witness a person appreciating life again is no match. I want it to last forever, I want to do this forever. Helping people seems to be the path set for me, and I am thankful for it. I try to ignore how part of me wants to explore the whole world of Iliah and find where I belong. I have been aware that I am not from here since the day I knew how to think. I don’t have spiky ears, I don’t have shiny red hair, my skin is not as gleaming with its paleness like theirs. I am not an Eabeian, it bugged me when I was younger. Do I want to be one or do I want to go out of here and find my own origin? But maybe I think too much that the Queen himself clarified it to me. The Queen rescued me from the Great War that had happened in the Nabi Era, merely 17 years ago. The war that took place in the Great sea of Truthia, the river between the Kingdom of Haringo and the dark kingdom of the Goddess Leona that descended from greatness, as the legends say. The war itself is a mystery for me. I can’t wrap my mind to the information that is about the Great War as I feel like it’s not true. I don’t wanna question the Queen, so I just accepted it. I am thinking so much that it tires me too, so I let the heaviness of my lids take over and guide me to unconsciousness where my body and mind won’t be thinking about healing others but her own. Finally, I can close my eyes and sleep, just sleep. Even the idea of dreaming drains me. Just how tired is this mortal body? - “Live Lilith. Live, my precious, you have got to live.” The cry of a toddler could be heard as the fire scorches more. Someone is dragging the toddler to hide in the ruins of the burning Kingdom. The woman wiped the tears away of the crying and scared girl, with a sword in the other hand. The woman then kneeled to hug the toddler. “M’ sca-scared h-hungry” the little girl mumbled, which made the crying woman smile at her. “Hide for mother, okay? I’ll be back with your cake’, you like that Lilith, right, r-right?” the woman tried to smile without sobbing but failed. The little girl nodded and hugged her mother again. “I love you my precious Lilith” I jolted as I tried to catch my breath. I roamed my eyes and then met Sonia’s worried gaze “Are you okay? You’ve been shouting ‘No’, so I got worried and tried to wake you up?” she hurriedly wrapped her arms around me. When I did not reply, she spoke again to assure me “It’s fine, it is fine, it is just a bad dream, Lilith”. She then pressed her lips to my temple. “I’m done cooking, if you are ready, come down and let’s eat our dinner” I did not reply but nodded and watched her go out of my space. Why did I dream of that again? It is the same dream that has been occurring every time I think about my origin. It is the same with the toddler they call Lilith and her cries with the cries of the running woman with her. Could it be me and my real mother? Why are we running within a burning place? Was it during the Great War? Was it my kingdom burning and descending? With that thought I couldn’t stop myself but to cry. Tears are now flowing freely from my eyes. The thought puts such a heavy weight on my shoulders, I thought I was settled with that dream, but the pain and confusion I always get are always the same and it gets heavier as I grow up. The morning came and Lady Sonia needed to go to the palace for her responsibility, so I was left alone in the house. I first ate the breakfast she prepared for me and then did her laundry. She’s so busy that sometimes she forgets to do these things, so I make sure to finish it before going back to my station in the south. I also cleaned the house and made some candles for an extra penny. “Lilith are you back?” a small voice asked. A broad smile appeared on my face when he showed himself to me “Iwa!” I happily stopped the candle I was making to face the little being calling my attention, a fairy. Fairies of this kingdom are their guides and protectors. It is not new in Eabeia to have these creatures. They are in fact their founder and guide. “Toru just wanted to see you before you went back to your station”, as if on cue another little being dressed in pink showed up “Toru!” His eyes widened and hugged my finger. Me and Turo were celebrating because it had been 6 months since the last time we'd seen each other but the word that Iwa said made my smile drop. "Lilith, a sun symbol appeared on your neck!"
