The Preparation

Alba was half-asleep when she realized that she was cuddled in his arms, in the position that she could hear his rhythmic heartbeats. She looked up to see his jaws just over her head and the pointed nose making it difficult for her to not touch him. It felt safe, like it was where she belonged. She snuggled closer, not wanting to get up yet.   “Get up, it’s time!” a soft voice woke her up; Blaze was all ready to go. Alba rubbed her eyes as she left for her room, feeling glares from everybody on the way. The kids were waiting in her room. They came to hug her as soon as she entered the room. “What’s wrong?” “We also want to learn and practice magic as well, we are a prodigy of our age. We can make it!” “No, you are too young.” Alba rejected coldly. Her tone while rejecting it, made the kids understand that she was resolute about her decision. Alba got ready before taking the kids to have breakfast with them.     About fifteen days had passed from the time she started learning magic and sixth day of temperature regulation training. The wings and the horse were all in her control and flying seemed way easier after practicing. She seemed to have a knack for archery, and though her endurance had not increased much but she had a substantial progress in it. But even though the progress was way more than expected, Kevin behavior had turned harsher than before. “Rise your temperature, you must produce enough heat continuously in your body in order to release it!” he said in a loud voice. Alba nodded but it felt like her organs were on fire, it was uncomfortable. As the heat inside her rose, her whole body shivered, not knowing what to do. Not being able to take anymore, she tried to release it in air, but Kevin was standing right in front of her. She tried but it was too late to stop. Kevin created a shield formation immediately and all the fire dissipated from him. “You have to contain it in yourself, it was just first level cultivation of fire and in ice you haven’t even made the first break through. Keep going after comfort and you shall never find your destination!” he mocked, before walking away. Sir Raymond came and sat beside her; “Are you alright? It must have been tough.” “It was okay. He is right, I am not strong enough.” “It’s harder because your body has two kinds of magic who oppose each other. But once you control it, they will be your biggest weapon.” “Yes. I know, I will work harder.” “And don’t mind what Kevin says. That kid has always been bad at expressing his emotions. In reality, he is proud of you. Go back early today, you deserve a break!” Sir Raymond smiled, getting up with the help of his stick. Alba walked to the children’s room upon entering the castle. She saw the guards standing outside the room suddenly panicking at her sight and giving what seemed like a patterned knock. Three- one- four- three. Alba opened the door, the kids were sitting and Blaze was reading out a story to them. Alba entered the room, looking around suspiciously and then she noticed a rolling sand doll still moving. She picked it up, the eyes had been burned out. Alba turned only, looking furious. She asked the servant to excuse them, and shut the door before going over to Blaze. “What do you think you are doing? They are five and seven years old kids!” “They are prodigy kids. They are so good.” He explained in a low voice. “So you are teaching them how to burn people eyes.”, her pitch rose . “No. That one she did herself.”, he mumbled. “You need to stop getting into this now. We will let you do it once you are ten at least.” “But..” Blaze began. “No buts, it is the end of conversation.” Alba cut him and left to cook. That night the dinner consisted of variety of human world dishes. She made a range of dishes from all across the world, which could be made using the limited ingredients present. That night too, just like from last fifteen nights, she went to her room and was unable to sleep so she ended up sneaking into Blaze’s room again, who was already sleeping at one side of bed with back turned towards the door, secretly waiting for her. She placed the pillow in the middle and closed her eyes and after a while, she felt Blaze slowly rotating her by her shoulder and placing her head on his arms and placing another hand around her waist before kissing her on the forehead and both actually drifted off to sleep.
