Raphael’s POV
“I’ll leave her to you then,” After saying these words, Michael and Gab went back to their classes and I was left with Mallory.
“Let’s go.” I told her with a paper.
Mallory is a really curious girl. Whenever she sees a bulletin board, some poster or even something dropped on the floor, she will immediately stop to take a look at it. She notices even the smallest things which makes me amazed sometimes.
We finally reached the classroom after a while, the door was slightly open. As I fully opened it, I felt cold water pour over me then a Kachak!
I was hit by a metal on the head, a bucket I guess. The whole class started laughing at me. *Sigh* I got caught in the trap. I looked behind me where Mallory was, thankfully she didn’t get wet as well. She went in front of me and picked up the bucket, she was trying to give it to me. What am I supposed to do with it?
I grabbed her hand instead and went outside. I can’t stay in there like this, I have to dry off my clothes. There is store within the campus, I could buy my self some new clothes right away if only my glasses didn’t get wet as well as the cleaning cloth. The store is still a few kilometers away, it’ll be more troublesome if I stumble upon something and slip up because I can’t see properly. I’ve been holding on to Mallory since we came out, I’m afraid she might wander around if I let her go. I can’t write anything like this either, how do I tell her?
“What are you guys doing here? You’re gonna catch a cold like that.”
A person with a familiar voice approached us. This small figure in white...If I’m correct it’s;
“Miss Alice?” I asked.
“Yes?” she replied.
As far as I remember Miss Alice didn’t wear any glasses so I can’t ask her for a cleaning cloth. Either way, I am glad to have someone I could speak to.
“Miss, do you have a handkerchief or anything of the like?” I asked hoping that she does. It is truly a relief that she had one, people usually don’t carry handkerchiefs these days after all. She handed me the handkerchief as soon as I asked then I wiped the water off my glasses. It really was Miss Alice, I thanked her right away and explained what happened.
“It’s only a great thing that I happened to be passing by with a handkerchief on my pocket, no need to thank me,” she said.
“May I ask where Miss Alice is heading to?” I asked.
“Haha! Nowhere, I was just taking a walk.” what an upbeat reply with a degenerate meaning... As far as I know, Miss Alice is the only medical staff in the school right now. Is it alright for her to be taking a walk like this? I worry that if someone that needs urgent treatment is carried to the clinic like last time she would be too late. Yet I’m grateful that she was taking a walk right now, or else we would have been helpless.
I looked back at Mallory who was just sitting down, staring at me. She’s still holding onto the bucket she picked up awhile ago, what is she planning to do with it?
There’s not much water dripping from my clothes now, but it’s still damp. I can’t walk off without a top in public so I decided to bear with it and head to the campus store right away. We fared Miss Alice goodbye after I thanked her one more time. It’s not a good idea to be skipping classes like this, we have to return right away. I hold unto Mallory then we went on. She must have realized that I’m rushing, she does not stop every time she sees something anymore. It’s great that she can read the atmosphere. Even still it took us almost an hour to walk back and forth to the campus store, it was really far away. When we reached the classroom the lecture was almost over. I have to make up for this with my professor later.
That aside I have another class before lunch. Fortunately, there isn’t any water bucket this time. On that note, Mallory still hasn't let go of the bucket she got before, I tried taking it from her, but she started pouting it made me feel bad, I had to return it to her.
Within the class, I realized that Mallory is going to have a hard time learning like this. She only looked at my notes and never at the whiteboard.
How old are you?
I asked her through my notebook.
She held her hands up looked at her hands and signaled a count of ten, another five, and was in a pinch between whether she would sign two or three more fingers, in the end, she decided with two. Seventeen... I am older then.
“Ask me anything if you’re lost in the lesson.“ I gave her one of my notebooks.
She looked at me and nodded. I guess that means an ‘okay’?
She looked back at my notes and pointed at the term ‘Thermometer’. It was defined as a device used to measure body temperature in Celsius. She then wrote at the notebook;
White stick Gabriel 40.0C
Is she talking about that time we saw Gab holding the thermometer with a temperature of forty degrees? I nodded at her, she nodded back thrice and pointed upon another term. Like this she kept on asking me even the simplest things like ice bags, and syringes. It made me wonder, maybe Mallory uses traditional medicine in their household.

A little while later and it’s already lunch. Today’s lunch schedule is earlier than the others so it will only be me and Mallory. As we are eating I was reminded of the fact that Mallory didn’t attend the orientation and spent her first day at school inside the clinic, looking after Gabriel. It might be the reason why she keeps on wandering around. After I finished my meal, I took out a notebook and wrote, “If you would like, when we have time after school, I can ask Gab and Michael to help me show you around.” Luckily, we have great memory, it’ll be an easy job for us. That is if they would agree to join us too.
Mallory bounced so excitedly, she seemed like a super excited dog because you’re about to take her out for a walk. Cute...
