Clothes

As if saying ”Yes, 506 is my room number”, she showed me her room keys that had the number on. Is this for real? Or is she some kind of a trap? How is it that the dorm manager gave me the same room as this girl?  While trying to figure out what was happening, Raphael came from the stairs panting, ”Ahh, I finally caught up with you.” he said. ”Raphael, what in the world is happening here?” I asked. ”Huh? Ah, your roommate”, he said trying to catch his breath, ”The dorm manager said there is no other room for the both of you.”  ”How envious... Michael got such a beauty for a roommate.” Gab who was in the neighboring room came out because of the ruckus. I am too unsure if this is even allowed, even so, today is the orientation at 7. It’s 6 am already, I have not much time to waste. It seems that us being on the highest floor, and me having a girl for a roommate  was due to late registration. ”Shut it, Gabriel. I will hear your excuses about this later.” My words might have been too sharp, Gab seemed frightened of me. Not that I can take back what I have already said. I went on inside the room with my belongings and shut the door. I looked around, perhaps the girl has something to say, but I found her lying in the bed covered with a blanket. It’s not that I expected anything from her, it’s only that she felt strange to me. I started arranging my things and took a bit of a rest until it was 6:30. Raphael notified me, and we headed out for the orientation. The girl didn’t seem asleep, I didn’t bother saying anything.  The verbal orientation finished at 8 then we went on to tour the campus, after a bit we were given a break passing upon the cafeteria.  It has been a while, but I haven’t seen her. Could it be that she went on to sleep after we left and decided to skip the orientation? She may be a senior... No, she wouldn’t be in that room if she was. ”Raphael, did you not tell that girl about the orientation? I have yet to see her.” Gabriel asked as we eat. ”It was announced on the school page, and even if she does not look at it, we were all told upon registration, so she should have known.” I replied. ”I know, but she might have forgotten you know.” Gabriel reasoned with me. Hmph, I am certain she was awake a while ago so she should have heard it when Raphael notified me. ”Forget about it, it’s her business. Don’t you have your own to take care of?” I said looking at him sternly. ”Ahah, Michael forgive me, it was my fault.” Raphael bowed at me, ”You said you wanted to register on a dorm without time restrictions, I tried to find a better place and pended on it but I was not able to, so it turned out like this.” ”It is good enough that you found a place without time restrictions, although it doesn’t have an elevator, right, Michael?” Gab said and I agreed.  After that the tour continued and finished at 12, all the historical explanation made it take longer than it’s supposed to. We came back to the dorm and due to their concern, Raphael and Gab came with me to my room to check upon the girl, but when we came back she was not there. The two went on to ask the dorm manager where she might have gone, but I didn't bother to come with them. It’s her own business. All that walking has tired me so I decided to take a nap.  -- Creak... It was the sound of the door opening. I guess she’s back. Let me have a bit more sleep... -- Ugh... What is this heavy thing on my stomach? I reached to remove it still half asleep, but when I opened my eyes, I finally realized what was above me. It’s her! To my surprise, I pushed her off to the ground. How profound this girl’s actions are, she’s naked! What was she planning to do? She sat there on the ground staring at me while I stand surprised and confused about what is happening. I must have hurt her. I was about to apologize, but before I could say anything, she suddenly started crawling towards my bag rummaging in it. ”What the hell are you searching someone else’s belonging for!?” I asked. She took out a pen and wrote something on her palm.  I can’t speak. Huh? She’s mute? But I heard her mutter something before, was that my imagination? As if reading my mind she went on again and wrote something. I’m deaf. Please lend me clothes. ”Huh? Clothes? Why would I?” Like a dumbass, I asked her these questions just right after she told me that she’s deaf. I grabbed the pen and wrote, ”What happened to your clothes?” I gave her back the pen and without  a space to write on her palm, she wrote it on her arms; It got wet. By the rain. Crazy enough as it is, I lent her my clothes. Although it is too large for her it is way better than letting her go around naked. Right now she is smiling at me while we both seat at our own beds. I figured we cannot converse like this, so I grabbed a pad and another pen, but before I could even write something she snatched the pad and wrote; “Thank You.” With a bright smile on her face. Seriously, I had a whole dozen of questions to ask, like when did it rain, how did she get soaked in the water, why does she not have any other clothes? Just now I looked around and realized that this girl didn’t have any belongings other than what seemed to be mourning clothes hanged near the window to dry and the room keys that was placed on the table, not a bag, a wallet, or phone. I wanted to say so many things, I thought it would be a long conversation, but all I was able to write was, ”Return it tomorrow.”
