Chapter Thirty Six
Friday, 23rd
Caroline stayed at home the next day. Although she was up early she decided to skip breakfast and postpone her shower until she’d got a handle on things at work. As a result she put in a solid couple of hours before most of the team had even arrived.
She was aware that the news of Joe’s confrontation with Ben would have spread round the office pretty quickly but she knew the best thing was simply to ignore it and carry on as normal. So far it seemed to be working.
Joe had a full morning of meetings and so had left at his normal time with a promise that they would call, if either one heard any news.
At around eleven thirty the home ‘phone rang. Caroline took a deep breath and answered.
“Caroline Slater speaking.”
“Hello Caroline. It’s Alice.”
