Alexander's POV
I growled at the phone as she pulled away from me. Of course, the perfect unforced moment had to happen in my office, and someone had to interrupt it. I walked over to answer the phone, and my mother was on the other end. "I tried to call your cell phone, but you didn't answer. Facetime me so I can see your face," she said, not waiting for a hello.
"Give me a moment, mom," I said before she hung up.
I sighed, looking up at Acelynn. "My mother wants to talk. I'll try to keep it quick. You can stay, or I can meet you back at the apartment," I told her as I turned my computer on.
"I'll stay she said," as she sat down on the couch.
My computer came on, and I clicked on the Facetime icon. Before I could even start a call with my mother, she was calling me. She came up on my screen looking giddy and excited, and I couldn't help but smile. "Hey mom, how is your trip?" I asked.
"Oh, it's going great. I heard the good news, though. Who is she? What does she look like? Mallory said she was gorgeous," she said and asked quickly.
"Mom," I sighed as I looked over at Acelynn.
I could see that her cheeks were red from where I was sitting. "She can hear you, and you are embarrassing both of us," I replied.
"I am your mother; I'm allowed to. Tell her to come here I want to meet her," she said, looking sternly at me.
I looked over at Acelynn and then back to my mother on the screen. Acelynn looked nervous, but I knew my mother wasn't going to back down. I smiled sympathetically at Acelynn as I waved her over. She looked panicked, but she did walk over to stand beside me. I moved my chair back and pulled her down onto my leg so she would also be in front of the camera. I saw my mother's eyes light up. "Oh, she is gorgeous," my mother cooed.
Acelynn blushed again but smiled, "Thank you," she replied.
"Mom, this is Acelynn," I informed her.
My mothers' eyebrows knitted together as she ignored my introduction. "You have not mated yet," she said, noticing Acelynn's neck.
"Mom!" I barked at the computer. "That is our business."
"I'm sorry. I am just surprised your father and I didn't come out of our room the first week we were together," she said, making me groan.
"Not something that we need to know, mom. I think we need to go, and you should probably get back to your trip," I said, attempting to end the call.
"Well, alright, I'll be home soon. Acelynn, I look forward to meeting you," she said, smiling at her.
"I look forward to meeting you too," Acelynn replied, smiling sweetly back.
"By mom," I said before I ended the call.
"I'm sorry about her. She can be a little much sometimes," I said to Acelynn.
She laughed lightly. "It's ok, at least she cares about you," she said softly before getting up from my lap.
I watched her walk back over to the couch and sit down. I pushed my seat back and went to sit beside her. We sat in silence for a few minutes. I could feel my cellphone vibrating in my pocket. I knew it was my mother trying to get more information. I looked over at Acelynn, and she was smiling, looking at me. "Is that your mom?" she asked, raising an eyebrow at me.
I laughed. "I'm sure it is. She didn't get enough information," I said as I pulled my phone out of my pocket.
Sure enough, it was my mother. I felt Acelynn move closer to me, trying to look at the screen too. I turned it so she could see more of it. The first text was simple enough.
What pack is she from?
But unfortunately, after that, they grew more personal as each one came.
Please tell me she doesn't have a lot of bad history we will have to deal with.
Are her genes good? Were Both parents wolves at birth?
Why haven't you mated yet?
When will I get a pup?
She seems small do you think she will be able to carry a strong heir?
I felt her fidgeting beside me. I turned my phone over, placing it on the seat beside me. "You know your mother has a point. Your past girlfriends have all been tall and appeared to be strong. Are you sure one of them isn't more fitting to be your chosen mate?" she asked.
"I want my fated mate," I answered. "The Moon Goddess put us together for a reason. I know you will be amazing as my mate and as the Queen. Please don't listen to my mother. I am her only child. She has been waiting for this moment just as long as I have. She wants the best for me, and she will soon find out that that is you."
She blushed, looking down at her lap. "At least I do not have a bad history," she said with a small smile.
I laughed. "That is true. Though I am curious about your past. Mine was pretty public, obviously since you know who I've been with. Tell me about you. Why did you attend a regular human high school?" I asked.
"Well, I was obviously never going to be a warrior," she joked. "I love to learn, though. I quickly excelled through the packs schooling program, and my father did take notice of that. So he thought I could be useful to the pack if I attended public high school and then went on to college where I would have studied something like law or medicine."
"Was that something that you wanted to do?" I asked.
"Law or medicine? They both probably would have been alright, but no, not what I would have picked myself," she answered.
"What would you have picked?" I asked.
"Hmm, I hadn't really thought about it. I've always been the baby in the family that gets told what to do. Though I think I probably would have wanted to be a teacher," she answered.
"I'm surprised that someone from your family hadn't called me since I left with you or shown up here," I stated.
Her smile faded. "Well, I have never really been my father's favorite. I think he was worried I might be a burden to him for the rest of his life. My sister did call me yesterday and helped calm me down some. She told me that Elijah and Jacob were coming up with a plan to break me out of here if you ended up being abusive or something. I'm sure Sam is in on it by now," she said with a laugh.
"I would never lay a hand on you without your consent. I would like to meet your family, though, and get to know them better. I know our first meeting didn't go over too well," I joked back with her.
"My sister and brothers would probably gladly come. My father, though, might not come so happily. I've wanted to ask, though, how did you know I was your mate?" she asked, turning to face me.
"I'm not sure if you remember, but a couple of years ago, your family attended a ball thrown by my mother that was for all ranking members of the packs. Everyone thought it was done so pack leaders could socialize in one place and get to know each other. That wasn't the case. My mother had done it on purpose so that all the alphas daughters would be in one place. She was hoping I would find my mate that night. You were with your brother Elijah I believe, and I introduced myself. You didn't pay much attention to me, but I was drawn to you. I didn't know why at the time. I had planned to try and dance with you later that night to talk to you, but you had already left. That night I had my team find out when you were turning 18, and I told myself if I hadn't found my mate by then that I would go to your pack and see if you were it," I answered.
She thought about my answer before saying, "That kind of sounds creepy, an older man lusting over a 16-year-old."
I sighed. "It wasn't a s****l thing then. At that time, I wanted to get to know you and felt a strong urge to protect you," I replied.
"So you thought I might be your mate but continued to date other women?" she asked.
I was not too fond of how the conversation was going but knew I needed to be honest with her. "I did not date those women. Occasionally, I would go out to dinner with one of them, but those relationships were strictly s****l. They all signed privacy contracts and knew what they were getting into. I've never actually had another female in my bed before you."
She thought about this answer longer and looked confused. "Why would they have to have contracts just to sleep with you?" she asked.
"You won't understand this now. I hope it never happens to you, but you will find that some people will come into your life to try and take advantage of you once you are Queen. Usually, they try to get information that you would rather keep private, and they sell it to the highest bidder. Hence the privacy contracts," I answered.
"Will I have to sign one?" she asked.
"No, of course not. You are my mate. If you decide to leave me and sell my secrets, then so be it. I'd already be dying anyway. You might as well put the final nail in the casket," I answered seriously.
She was biting her bottom lip again. For some reason, her doing this was a turn-on for me. My body ached for her. It was getting harder every day to hold back and not push her. "Is it ok if I take a walk alone just to process this information?" she asked.
I was surprised she asked, but it was probably a good idea that we both take a moment. "That's fine," I said. "I just ask that you stay inside."
She nodded her head in agreement and quickly made her exit out of my office. I adjusted myself in my pants that were becoming increasingly uncomfortable. She was going to be the death of me if she didn't come willingly to me soon. I picked up my phone, hoping replying to my mother's messages would help calm me down.
