21. The Bear The next morning, the weather turned to glorious blue skies and radiant sunshine. Shards of sunlight pierced the window and blazed on the kitchen floor, a relief from the dull grey cloud cover that had swirled low over the fjord for the past days. Kelly and Hacki called a camp summit. Kelly was all smiles, Hacki was relaxed, and Sheena was attentive, while Maurice and Ethan sipped coffee. Everyone but Ethan smoked. Sheena kept the coffee coming during the meeting. Kelly started. “We’re laying you off, Maurice. Is that okay with you?” “I’m easy, Kelley. Whatever you want.” He said that with a big grin.
