CHAPTER1(The Stranger Return)
The early morning mist clung to the ground like a shroud, curling around Sienna Rayne’s boots as she stepped into Crescent Hollow after nearly a decade away. The town had barely changed — same winding cobblestone streets, same towering evergreens shadowing the worn paths. Yet everything inside her had shifted.
She pulled her hood tighter over her unruly hair, trying to shield herself from curious glances. News traveled fast in a pack town; a lone wolf returning, especially one with her history, would be the talk for days.
At the center of it all stood the marketplace — busy, vibrant, and familiar. The scent of baked bread and pine filled the air, stirring memories Sienna thought she had buried.
She shouldn’t have come back.
But something stronger than fear had drawn her — a whisper in her blood, a restless pull toward home. Toward answers. Toward a fate she wasn’t sure she wanted.
Across the square, Alpha Lucian Grey stood, towering and watchful among a group of pack enforcers. His dark hair caught the morning sun, his broad shoulders tense with authority. Sienna’s heart gave an unbidden lurch.
He had grown harder in her absence. More dangerous. And those storm-grey eyes of his locked onto her like a wolf scenting prey.
Sienna dropped her gaze and moved swiftly toward the inn. She had no desire to stir trouble — not yet.
But as she passed, a voice low and commanding halted her steps.
"You don't belong here," Lucian said, his tone flat but laced with warning.
Sienna turned slowly, meeting his gaze with a quiet fire of her own. "Neither do ghosts," she said. "But here we are."
For a heartbeat, the entire town seemed to hold its breath.
Lucian’s jaw tightened. Something flickered behind his eyes — something ancient, something wild. Recognition? No...impossible.
Sienna didn’t wait for permission. She turned and disappeared into the crowd, feeling his gaze burn into her back like a brand.
If she had hoped to slip into Crescent Hollow unnoticed, that hope was already ash and smoke. And somewhere deep inside, a part of her knew:
This was only the beginning.
