His Undercover Luna- Chapter 1
Roxy Beep. Beep. Beep. I groaned in frustration, silencing the alarm for the fifth time. The urge to throw it across the room was almost overwhelming. These early morning training sessions were one of my least favorite things, but the purpose behind them kept me going. One day, all this hard work would pay off. Every grueling session brought us closer to redemption. "Roxy, be down in ten!" my brother Aiden shouted from outside my door. He was always up and ready to train, like clockwork. Aiden lived and breathed this mission, and sometimes, I worried that he was in too deep. But I understood. He was the next Alpha. It was in his nature to be protective and territorial. After what happened to our pack, he carried the weight of responsibility on his shoulders, feeling obligated to protect and lead us back to greatness. Dragging myself out of bed, I threw on my training gear, tied my hair into a low bun, and slipped into my sneakers. I moved as quickly as possible to avoid giving Aiden another reason to yell at me. The house was still quiet—it was 5:30 in the morning, after all. I didn’t expect anyone else to be up besides the three of us. Grabbing an apple and my water bottle, I made my way to the training grounds. As expected, Aiden and Phillip, our trainer and Beta, were already there, warming up. Although I’d never been a girly girl, they were used to my slight tardiness. After all, I had more to do when getting ready. "Well, kids," Phillip began with his signature smirk. I rolled my eyes. At twenty years old, Aiden and I were far from kids, but to Phillip, we always would be. "As you already know, your training is nearing its end. Soon, you’ll fulfill your purpose and make your father and me proud. Mostly me, though," he added with a wink. I couldn’t help but laugh. Phillip had a way of making training enjoyable, even after years of it. Spending six days a week with the same person for five years could get monotonous, but Phillip always found creative ways to keep things interesting. He wasn’t just good at his job—he was the best. "You’ve mastered all the skills needed to complete your mission. This upcoming week will be all about crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s," Phillip continued. "Wait," I interrupted, excitement bubbling up. "Does that mean we’ll be going on the mission soon? Since there’s only one week of training left?" Phillip nodded, and a wave of relief washed over me. "Yes. The Alpha has finalized everything. You’ll receive the full briefing soon." Aiden and I exchanged a glance, our shared excitement unmistakable. This was what we’d been working toward for years. Eighteen years ago, our pack had been attacked by the Truemoon Pack. They took most of our land, killed our people, and left us broken and weak. Many died, others were kidn*pped, and our father, Alpha Blake, had spent every day since trying to rebuild. The problem was, we had no clear understanding of Truemoon’s strength. Going in blindly would have been a suicide mission. That’s where Aiden and I came in. Our mission was simple in theory: infiltrate the Truemoon Pack, gather intel, and ensure our pack had the upper hand when the time came to strike. At first, I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of war. But my father had made it clear—this was the only way to reclaim what was rightfully ours. He wanted to set things right before passing leadership to Aiden, ensuring my brother wouldn’t inherit a broken pack. Our father handled the planning while Phillip focused on training us. We didn’t know the specifics of the mission yet, but we trusted that when the time came, we’d be ready. My father had chosen us for a reason: we shared his determination and drive, and he knew we wouldn’t let him down. Training had shaped us into exactly what we needed to be—swift, strong, intelligent, and discrete. We mastered acting, stealth, and manipulation, though I promised myself I’d only use deceit when absolutely necessary. And above all, we were taught to be strong—mentally, emotionally, and physically. Attachment was forbidden. Guilt was not an option. We weren’t ruthless, but we understood the necessity of our mission. Years of relentless training—spanning classrooms, gyms, fields, and testing grounds—would finally be put to the test. I was ready. I could see that Aiden was, too. "So, when you two are done with your little twin moment, meet me at the clearing in five," Phillip called out, smirking as he jogged off. Aiden kissed the top of my head, slinging an arm around my shoulder as we made our way to the clearing. Despite being the same age, he always treated me like his baby sister. I didn’t mind—it was nice to have someone who looked out for me like he did. Of course, I had other friends. Phillip’s son, Jace, and his daughter, Jane, were my closest companions. Jace was Aiden’s best friend and future Beta, which sometimes made me jealous. But Aiden always reassured me that nothing could rival the bond between twins, and I believed him. When we reached the clearing, ten bulky warriors stood waiting. I groaned inwardly, already knowing what was coming. "In enemy territory, getting caught is always a possibility," Phillip began, his voice taking on a serious tone. "We don’t train you to be arrogant fools. We train you to be wise." He paused, his sharp gaze locking onto us. "Today, we’re going to simulate a capture. Your goal is to take these men down and escape to the border alive. Remember, never surrender." Phillip’s words sent a shiver down my spine. Even after all these years, he could be intimidating when he wanted to be. The warriors closed in, their expressions fierce. Aiden and I exchanged a quick nod, knowing we had to stay together. Phillip didn’t need to remind us—sticking by each other was second nature. The fight was brutal, as always. I hated this exercise. It was one of the most grueling parts of our training, and I rarely escaped without a few broken bones. But we’d mastered it over the years, learning how to outmaneuver our opponents and make it to the border unscathed. This time was no different. By the time we reached the river marking the border, my ribs ached, my face throbbed, and I was sure I’d be covered in bruises by morning. But we’d done it. Collapsing onto the ground beside Aiden, I let the sound of the rushing water soothe my frayed nerves. The river tickled our toes, its gentle flow a stark contrast to the chaos we’d just endured. I stared across the water at the land that had once been ours. The land that would be ours again. "I think that’s why Father sends us to the border so often," I murmured. "To remind us of what we’re fighting for." Aiden nodded, his gaze fixed on the horizon. "We’ll get it back, Roxy. All of it." His voice was steady, but I could tell he was saying it more for my sake than his own. I didn’t need reassurance, though. I didn’t need comfort. What I needed was my home. And I would get it back.
