KALISIA
After a rather long and boring day at school, I was ready to leave and get ready for my date tonight. I hadn't had a chance to ask dad yet, but surely he wouldn't mind. He seems to let me do whatever I want. I know he's only doing it because of what happened, but why not take advantage of that while I can? I'm sure he won't let me use him very much longer.
Before the last period bell rang, I was already out of the door of the classroom.
“Oh my gosh! I'm so glad I ran into you!” I jumped as I heard Ashlee screech behind me on my way to my locker. I rolled my eyes and turned around to face her. Everyone walked around us like we weren't there and Ashlee wasn't screaming across the hallway at me. I expected glaring eyes at the both of us, but no one seemed to care about anything except getting to their last class.
“Really? Why?” I answered with annoyance in my tone.
“You're so silly friend,” she boasted as she lightly shoved at my crossed arms holding my books. “We're going SHOPPING!”
“We are?” I scoffed.
“We need dresses for the dance silly. I know you're going with Devon. So, don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about.” I actually didn't know what she was talking about. I hadn't told Devon yet that my dad had said it was okay. So, how would she know if I was going with him or not?
Was she making it up to see if we were going or not? Maybe she was trying to get me to admit to it or something. I don't think she actually knew if we were going together or not, and she was being nosy, but it made me want to go with Devon even more. I couldn't stand this b***h. I don't know Devon all that well, but there was something about this girl that made me want to date him just to spite her.
“Even if we were going together, which I'm not saying if we are or not, how would you know?”
“Oh you poor thing. This is high school; EVERYONE knows. Okay, so what time do you want me to pick you up?” So, I guess it just isn't her that assumes we are going together. Is this how all high schools are?
“Uh, well. I have a date tonight.” Part of me wanted to say with Devon, but I wanted to see her stir. I could see the panic in her expressions, and I was loving every bit of it. At first, I thought she was going to attack me, but then I saw her calm herself down.
“What about tomorrow??” She begged.
The last thing on Earth I wanted to do was go dress shopping with this floozy.
“I don't think so; I was just going to grab something myself.”
“Seriously? That sounds so boring! Come on, please!?” She wasn't going to drop it was she?
Now I was curious to see what she was up to. What would one shopping experience hurt?
“I guess. What would it hurt?” I finally gave in.
“That's my girl! Yay! This will be so fun!” She cheered.
I rolled my eyes and stated sarcastically, “Yes, SO much fun.”
“Woot. I need to text my date and ask him what color he's wearing.” She squealed as she pulled her phone out of her pocket and started texting wildly.
“Who's the lucky guy?” I was surprised she had any interest in another guy besides Devon.
“Well, if you have to know. The quarterback of our football team, Jason. EEK! I still can't believe he asked me.” I wondered if he was the one I saw earlier talking to Devon. I didn't like the way he looked at me; like I was some piece of meat or something.
“Woo,” I said sarcastically, “well I better get going.” My last class was with dad, and I still had to ask him if going out with Devon tonight was okay.
“See you later!” She waved as I turned away from her and continued on to my locker, completely regretting what I had just agreed to.
When I walked through the door of my class, I was a few minutes late, so of course half of the students stared at me as I went to sit down at my usual seat. Thankfully, dad didn't notice or say anything. He was writing away at the chalkboard a timeline of upcoming tests and quizzes.
“I guess congratulations is in order.” Amber leaned over to where I was sitting and whispered to me.
“For what?” I said back confused.
She just rolled her eyes. “For the hottest guy in school asking you to the dance. I mean; I just hope he's not up to something. Thinking you’re an easy hit or if it's a bet or something.” Why would she say something like that? Does she have a crush on him or something?
She never looked at me as she spoke. She was leaned towards me, but never took her eyes off of the blackboard.
“Whatever.” I spit back at her after she leaned back towards her seat.
I was about to ask what her problem with me was, but I was interrupted. “QUIZ TIME! I hope you all studied and are ready.” Dad said to the classroom as he turned away from the blackboard. I watched him push his glasses back up over his eyes from falling down his nose when he looked down at the papers he was about to pass out. He was such a dork.
Thank goodness I studied all evening last night.
I grabbed the paper as he handed it to me and looked down at it. I could already tell I knew the answers to all of the questions. I began to quickly answer them one by one. After a few minutes, I was finished before anyone else in the room.
Well, that was easier than I thought.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiing... the school bell was already going off? I thought I had only been at the test for 10 minutes, but apparently it was the entire class period. What kind of quiz was this? I was the only one I had seen that had actually finished it before the bell. Is this how hard high school was? I studied all night for this quiz. If I had to do that for every test, I was probably going to fail.
