Natalia POV
"Mommy, Mommy!"
I heard yelling from outside of my bedroom. The yelling woke me up from my sleep, so I began to get up from my bed. My head turned, looking at the clock reading 3:05 A.M. I snapped my head again in front of me when the door creaked open, showing my little Miya.
She stood there with her pink zebra-pattern pajamas and bunny slippers. She looked so cute with her curly messy brown hair, and her big milky brown eyes. She rubbed her eyes tiredly looking at me.
"Mom bathroom pwease?" She said with pleading eyes.
"Okay, sweetheart, let's go."
This time I got off of the comfy bed and swung my legs over. Once my feet touched the floor, I hurriedly walked across my bedroom to Miya. I scooped her up in my arms, walked fast to the bathroom, making sure she didn't pee on herself.
Once I entered the bathroom and lifted the toilet seat. I sat her on the toilet and squatted down so I was at eye level with her and began my routine that I do every time, encouraging her when she needed to use the restroom.
"Come on my girl, you got it. Come on, baby girl, you can do it!" After a few words of encouragement, she finally peed.
I picked her up from the toilet seat and stood her up on the ground, helping her put her pajamas on. I then proceeded to lift her up again and sat her on my legs and between the sink. I pumped the soap into her hand and washed it with warm water. Once the soap was gone from her hands, I sat her on the ground again and walked her to her room.
Her room was a decent size. It wasn't too big nor too small. Her walls were pink and purple, which matched her bed comforter, which was pink with purple dots. She also had a dresser on the side of the room with her favorite books and movies.
I walked her to her bed and laid her down. Once I wiggled her into the bed and tucked her in, I faced her, and cradled her in my arms.
"Do you want me to read you a story about a baby girl? She nodded her head in response.
"Which one? I asked
""Twiger and the tu-r-tt-wle"! She said with a gleam in her eyes.
I chuckled at her stumbling words. I picked the book from her collection and sat down on the bed and started reading. About 5 minutes later, we finally came to the endpoint. I read out the last words to her before I closed the book.
"The turtle and the tiger roamed the land being forever friends.
THE END"
After closing the book, I looked at my Miya and realized she was asleep. I kissed her forehead and swept her hair from her face.
"Goodnight baby girl. I whispered in her ear.
I put the night light on beside her bed, and walked to the door. I looked back at her one last time before I closed the door fully. I breathed a sigh of relief and headed to my bedroom. Once I got in, I crawled into my bed trying to sleep away the few hours I had left before waking up early.
There was an interview that I had to attend tomorrow morning at The National Electric Industries and I wanted to get a good sleep. The last thing I needed was to have an attitude first thing in the morning because of lack of sleep. So I decided to lay my head on the soft cold pillow and get under the warm covers. I turned on my side to get more comfortable. I finally closed my eyes waiting for sleep to come.
***
"RING, RING!"
I heard my alarm go off right beside me. I pulled my hand from under the cover and slapped it around my dresser, trying to turn it off. When my hand finally felt the button, I pushed it automatically, silencing the noise. I let my hand fall limp onto the ground. I was so tired, and I was debating whether I should get up or sleep in.
However, my eyes shot opened when I remembered that I had an interview. I quickly jumped from my bed, letting my feet land on the floor.
I rushed to my closet beside my bed and opened it wide. My eyes were searching for something professional to wear. I wanted to make a good impression, especially for an interview. So I picked out a cream colored blouse, and a black knee-high pencil skirt with black high heels to match.
Once I had the outfit in my hand, I turned around and put the clothes on the bed, then headed to the bathroom.
I closed the door behind me and immediately stripped off my pajamas and stepped in the shower. I washed my body and hair with vanilla scented shower gel and shampoo. After a while in the shower, I let the hot water rinse the last contents of soap from my body before I stepped out. I wrapped the towel around my figure, drying myself off.
Walking over to the sink, I brushed my hand over the mirror, wiping off the steam. My reflection stared right back at me. I had dark brown hair that was curly and shriveled to my shoulders. When straightened, it was below my chest. I had light brown eyes and soft features. My skin was a dark mocha shade, and my body wasn't fat nor skinny but average. I liked the way I looked and I honestly wouldn't change a thing about myself.
I picked up my toothbrush and brushed my teeth. I then sipped a cup of mouthwash into my mouth, swishing it around for a minute until I spat it out into the sink. I then focused on my hair. I usually leave the curls in. So I just put my hair into a professional bun and let strands of twirls fall around my face. Once I was satisfied with my look, I walked out of my bathroom into my room.
Looking through my drawers I found a matching pair of white panties and bra. I picked up my clothes from my bed and began to put them on.
Thinking I needed to add some accessories to my outfit, I walked to my jewelry box and found a pair of diamond earrings and a necklace to match.
I looked at the clock reading 7:30 A.M. I grumbled under my breath, seeing how late it was. I had 30 minutes to get there when it was at least a 25 minute drive. I grabbed my purse from my closet and ran out of the bedroom. Once I stepped out, Miya came running into me wrapping her little hands around my legs.
"Mom, please don't go stay!" she cried.
Miya, you know Mamma has to go, she'll see you in a little bit." My babysitter named Jane said.
"Yeah, sweetheart Jane is right. I'll see you in a little bit, okay? I said.
"Pwromise?" Miya asked me.
I bent down so I was at eye level with her. I took out my pinky in front of her. She looked at it for a minute before she took hers up and clenched my pinky with hers, and we both kissed it at the same time, like we always did when we made a promise to each other.
"Pinky Promise," I whispered.
She smiled up at me, knowing that I would keep the promise. She let go of my hand and gave me a big hug. I held her tightly before I removed my arms. I reeled back and wiped the tears off her face.
"Mommy loves you, okay." I smiled?
"Love you too, bye mommy", she said.
I stood up and walked to the front door of my apartment. Before I opened it, I turned around and looked at Miya standing beside Jane. I waved and rushed to say bye. After I closed my front door, I ran down the flight of stairs into the parking lot.
Rushing to my car, I finally got in. My car wasn't the most expensive car with lavish features, but it got me from point A to point B and that's all that mattered. I backed up out of the lot and headed to National Elect Industries.
When I finally got there, I wasn't totally relieved because I was pretty sure that I wouldn't make it on time because there was so much traffic. I parked my vehicle and opened up the door. I quickly walked to the entrance, inside the building. It was huge and so rich looking...?
I mean you could tell this guy had money just by looking at his building. I searched for the elevator and my eyes finally landed upon it. I stepped into the elevator, hitting the 15th floor. I hope it's the right one, I thought to myself. Tracey, the girl that called me for the interview, said that it would be on the 15th floor at 8:00 A.M.
The elevator door opened, showing a massive work space. There were people all over scrambling around getting business done. It was a fast pace and a little noisy. After looking around, I spotted the secretary's desk and walked over. There was a woman with auburn hair and green eyes staring at her computer intensely. I stood there for a while waiting for her to notice me. When she finally looked up, she gave me a friendly smile.
"Hello, how may I help you?" She asked.
"Hi, my name is Natalia, I'm here for an interview at 8:00 o'clock."
"Hi, Natalia. My name is Tracey. We spoke over the phone. It's nice to meet you!" She jumped up from her chair and exclaimed.
"It's nice to meet you too." I took out my hand for her to shake.
She was really friendly. It seemed like she was just a happy person all around. It kind of took me back because I imagined her way different than she came across. She just had excitement in her eyes every time she talked to me. It was kind of weird how she just said everything with a smile or maybe I just wasn't used to it?
"Anyhow Mr. Beacon is in an important meeting right now. But I'll just lead you to his office, right this way." She said.
"Okay, thanks."
She led the way to his office. We walked in this dark empty hallway. It seemed like we were heading to death or something. We kept on walking until we came to a stop and saw two silver doors ahead of us. She opened the door and we walked in. His office was massive. It was probably the size of my whole apartment. Everything was silver, and coated with a shine. Also, everything was organized like it had been untouched for months. The only "color" in the room was the white carpet. However, everything else was "blah." My looking around was cut off when Tracey spoke.
"Take a seat. He should be here shortly."
She turned away, heading for the door, but before she closed it, she turned around facing me, saying one last thing.
"Oh, and good luck." She smiled lightly.
She shut the door behind her. I heard the clacking of her heels fading down the hall. I walked forward, sitting on the chair that was in front of his desk. It was the only chair that was there besides the chair that was for him. I put my purse neatly beside me. I clenched my hands on my lap feeling nervous. My stomach was turning in knots. I really needed this job more than anything. I needed to support myself and my daughter and provide the best I could for her.
Especially because her father didn't want anything to do with her. He was my high school sweetheart and we were the 'dream couple.' I thought I had it all until I got pregnant. Once he found the news out, he bailed and never looked back. I tried calling him, texting him, anything I could do to try to get in contact with him. However, he would just ignore me, so I stopped trying. Since then, it's just been me and her. She's all I got and vice versa. So that's why I really need this, not just for myself, but for her.
After a while of waiting, my legs started bouncing up and down because of nerves. Once I heard a door click and shut behind me, I stopped my leg from bouncing.
I didn't turn around, because I didn't want to seem too anxious. So I waited till he came around to get a better view of him. He walked to his desk, taking long strides to get there. He finally pulled his chair out and sat down. He was looking through papers that were in his hands since he walked in. He was so concentrated on his papers that I started to wonder if he even knew I was in his office.
I started to grow impatient, so I adjusted myself on the chair. I guess I made a lot of movement because he snapped his head up towards me. I stopped my movement and became paralyzed. There wasn't anything wrong with my body, but I couldn't process what I was looking at. He was handsome, handsome, and everything a woman could ask for. He had to be the most attractive man I ever saw in life.
He had piercing blue eyes, like coral blue. He had jet black hair that slipped back but effortlessly fell in his eyes. His features were so strict, and you could see his masculine jaw line. His skin was a pale color, but it didn't look off, it fitted him well... very well. I gazed at him for the longest time before I was snapped out of my day-dreaming by someone calling my last name.
"Miss. Wake!" Mr. Beacon yelled at me.
"Sor-ry Sir I was jus-"
"I don't have all day, Miss. Wake up, pay attention because you're wasting my time!" He snapped.
There he goes, ruining his good looks by having a bad attitude. I looked at him with shocked eyes. I mean, I know I was day dreaming for a little, but man was he rude. I thought that maybe he would be a little nice like his secretary. I guess not? I closed my mouth and swallowed before I responded.
"Sorry, Sir". I looked down.
However, I heard him scoff under his breath at my response. He looked at me up and down with disgust before he looked down at the papers he had in his hands again. I rolled my eyes at his actions and looked away from him.
"You know that attitude of yours can't take you far in life, Miss. Wake."
"Mhm, the same goes for you Sir." I smirked.
He pushed his chair back harshly at my words and walked in front of his desk. He crossed his arms in front of his chest, leaning on his desk. I saw his muscles bulging against the fabric of his black suit. He had on matching colored pants and a white polo shirt. His shiny black shoes complimented his silver tie. After staring at his clothes, I crossed my legs, and placed my hands on my lap, leaning in waiting for him to speak. He was clenching his jaw in anger, probably because of the last mark I said to him.
"In your resume it says that you worked for another company, Rain Enterprises," he stated.
"Yes, Sir."
Well...? He questioned
"Well, what?" I asked, confused.
"Miss. up, this is an interview. Am I correct?" He asked a little slowly like I was dumb.
I nodded
"Okay, well I don't know what you call an interview. However, in my definition, if I ask a question, I expect you to respond."
"Okay" I answered, still confused.
He never asked a question, he was just stating facts. Maybe I wasn't getting it.
He glared at me, I guess, waiting for a response. I was still confused about what exactly he was asking, so I stayed silent. With my silence, he got frustrated and he finally spoke.
"Of course, you don't know what I'm asking. I'll just make it simpler for you to catch on too. Why did you leave Rain Enterprises, Miss? Wake?" He finally asked, but rolling his eyes, doing so.
"I worked there for years in the filling business. Unfortunately, the market crashed and affected business. A few months later, they went under, causing many to lose their jobs, including me."
I looked at him, trying to search for his sympathy or understanding, but no. He just gave me the opposite and kept on staring at me with a cold glare. I started to feel uncomfortable so I shifted to my seat once again. I think he sensed that because he spoke up.
"That's all, Miss. Wake you're dismissed." He said, turning around.
'Wait, what? You're not going to ask anymore questions?" I asked.
"Did I stutter?"
I looked at him waiting for him to tell me that he was just pulling on my strings. He just looked down and started at his work like he wasn't even in the middle of a conversation with me. I was so angry that I snatched my purse from the ground and stormed towards the door. Before I could open it up, I heard my name.
"Oh, and Miss.Wake. If you have got the job, expect a phone call in a few days."
I looked at him in utter disbelief and stalked out the door. I walked into the dark hallway and entered the workspace once again. I can't believe that, but he, he really believed that I would work for someone like him. He literally insulted me like 3 times in a 5 minute time span. He was absolutely delirious. I walked towards the elevator ready to go in when a soft voice called my name.
"Natalia wait up! I wanted to catch you before you left. How'd it go?"
I shrugged my shoulders in response.
"Believe me, I understand, Mr. Beacon has a different personality."
"That's an understatement, I don't even think he has a personality," I scoffed.
"Yeah." She laughed a little.
"Well, I had better get going if I have to get back home," I said.
"Yeah, of course! It was nice meeting you, Natalia. I hope you get the job. It will be nice to work with someone that I can actually talk to or even have another woman here that doesn't annoy me." She said with a hopeful smile.
"Yeah" I half smiled
"Bye"
"Bye"
I stepped into the elevator and pressed on the 1st floor. I looked up, looking at the bright lights above, and slumped my body on the wall behind me.
"Wow, what a morning," I said to myself.
