SPAIN — Four people can be seen walking on a red carpet, with class and elegance. Every eye screams envy. As every thump of their shoes, an eerie feeling was sent to a woman in the hall.
"Eraluna, what are you doing here?" Strictly, but the assistant still managed to keep her voice down.
"I'm sorry, ma'am. I didn't mean to get out of the kitchen." She apologized and the assistant smiled at her.
"But I heard that you ran into Mr. Reese yesterday?" She was about to burst into laughter when I glared at her.
"Yes, unintentional." Then she put her obviously not believing look on me.
"It was. Every girl would want your position at that moment."
"I'm not every girl, Therese." I walked away yet she followed me. "And after that, they searched for me and that was their mother's order. For me just to apologize to their son, how is that?" I smiled sarcastically at her.
I was walking fast and I bumped into somebody again. When I looked up, it was him again.
"Won't you look for your way?!" I hissed at him. He managed to smile at me and pointed out how small the hallway is.
"The hallway is small and can only fit one person, miss. What do you expect me to do? Fly?" Even Therese on my back laughed. Out of shame, I pushed him and I ran away.
I went to the garden and lit a cigarette. But the moment I was about to put it in my mouth, the voice of a man could be heard.
"The first time we saw each other, I said that smoking is bad for our health. Yet you didn't put it in your head, you still smoke." I glared at him on taking my cigarette again. "You always glare."
"Who said that you had the rights to do that?" I stood firmly in front of him.
"I'm a med student, Eraluna. And it's bad for the health." He stared at me as if he was staring through my soul.
"I don't care." I snatched my cigarette and walked away. They are so irritating. I got back inside by walking through the main entrance. I successfully got to the kitchen and continued my work.
"Guess who's been lucky these past few days guys!" Shouted my co-worker, Analyn. They looked at me with a smile on their faces.
"What?" I raised my eyebrows, looking at them all.
"What's the feeling of bumping into the Montemayors?" Teasingly said Therese.
"Please stop with them, that was all unintentional." I just focused on my things and let them be.
After that night, it was tiring. But at some points, it was actually nice to feel, knowing that you have money that you will give to your family that is suffering. No other greater feeling than that, providing for your loved ones.
As I lay my head on my pillow, my phone vibrated. It was my brother.
Hi Ray! How are you?
Hi sis, I'm fine, how about you? I smiled, knowing he was fine and happy.
I'm okay, how's mom and dad?
In the background, I heard them shouting at each other about money. When they saw me on the screen, they both stopped.
Hi mom, dad, how are you? They both scratched their heads and waved at me.
We're fine here, we'll go now, have a rest, good night!! I smiled and looked at my brother.
What's the matter with them?
We actually have no money, Luna. They are searching for lenders, they are shy to ask you.
"It's fine, Ray. I'll send some money tomorrow. For now I need to rest. Good night, I love you!" He nodded and I ended the call.
After that, I finally fell asleep.
The loud ringtone of mine was the one that woke me up. It was already 7:00 and I have a class at 7:45. I hurriedly took a bath before I ran late again.
I am a 19-year-old college student. I am taking AB Pol Sci. The same university that the Montemayors go to. My aunt pays for my tuition and everything, and at night I go to work.
I packed my books and clutched my bag on my back. On my way to school, I heard a loud and long honk on my back. And when I looked at it, it was one of the Montemayors, Reese.
"Hey there, bumpy girl. Wanna ride?" I didn't give him any attention and I proceeded to walk. "It's a big pleasure to talk to the Montemayors, don't you know? All of the girls want to talk to me and here I am, talking to you. At least pay respect." I was shocked by what he said. Pay respect? Big word. I turned to him and put my hand on my waist.
"Who are you so that I would talk to you? I never talk to a man who preaches high, Sir. And I would never pay you respect. Respect is gained, not in the action of paying it." I walked as fast as I could and I hardly heard him laughing.
I was embarrassed till I reached the gate of the university. All eyes were on me and the man behind me who was still laughing. He managed to catch up and now we're walking together in sync.
"What do you want from me?" I faced him and he stopped laughing. He seriously looked at me and smiled.
"I didn't know you were actually pretty." Every inch of my face he was scanning.
"You didn't answer my question, bastard." I pushed him away and there he laughed.
"What do I want from you? Easy, you yourself." He intently said. Everyone gasped, that was how loud he said that. Everyone heard it.
"You're a big lame clown." I walked away.
"The first time you bumped into me, I fell in love with your eyes, and the second time you bumped into me, I fell in love with you. It may sound funny, Eraluna, but I mean it." He looked deeply into my eyes and smiled. "I never felt alive like this and happy." I was dumbfounded.
"Are you serious, Reese?" Looking at him, he seemed so. And he nodded.
"I am not pressuring you, Eraluna. I just want to state how I feel. No worries." He patted my head and left me.
I looked around me and saw everyone looking at me secretly. Even the teachers were there. I hurriedly ran into the stairs and the moment I was stepping into the last step, I unsuccessfully finished it. I fell. I was ready for it yet there was a hand catched and supported my back. It was Sol.
"Be careful next time. You don't know, maybe next time there won't be a Sol willing to catch you anymore." He put me down and he smiled. He has a prettier smile than his brother.
"I'm sorry. Thank you." He nodded and I walked my way to my classroom. What a scandal for today. What an encounter with the Montemayors.
