Mary rang the doorbell at the Cantland residence a few minutes before two o’clock on Saturday afternoon. Dacque stood to her right but a step behind her with a hand tucked behind his back to conceal Cammi’s afternoon surprise.
Cammi opened the door with a wide grin. “Hi, Mary. Hello, Mr. LaRose. Come in please.”
Dacque followed Mary into the foyer and closed the door behind him before handing Cammi the gift wrapped in white paper this time.
“Thank you, Mr. LaRose. Mommy and Daddy are waiting for us in the living room,” Cammi said, and led the parade into the living room. After greetings all around Cammi asked Connie if she could open her present.
“Yes, honey, you can open it.”
Cammi tore the wrapping paper off and checked the book cover. “The Moving Van Next Door.”
