Chapter 1: Sapphire Claw
One evening, in a beautiful home with a huge garden full of flowers, a couple was having a fight. "Alaric, you’re being obnoxious. We already have four boys, and no matter what the fifth one is, we’re going to love it. Also, this will be our last child," Isolde said, sitting down with her baby bump while scolding her mate. The four boys of Alaric and Isolde are Caspian, Finnian, Julian and Griffin.
"Darling, that's for sure. We’re going to love it and pamper it. If it's a boy, we’ll just try one last time, and that’s it. I promise I won’t ask again for a girl," Alaric tried to coax his mate. Alaric always wanted a baby girl; however, they had four boys, and now Isolde is pregnant with another child. They both decided to keep the baby’s gender a surprise. Isolde always thought she’d have a cute little family, but fate had different plans. Since Alaric wanted a girl, they now have four boys.
While their argument continued, Ethan came to the door and called Alaric. "Alaric, the Alpha is calling you. He tried to mind-link you, but there was a barrier. How is Isolde doing? Is everything fine?"
"Oh, we were just discussing the baby, Ethan. Isolde is doing great." Alaric went over to Isolde, kissed her forehead and baby bump, and said, "Baby girl, Daddy loves you. See you soon, honey. Darling, I'll be going now. Take rest and call me immediately if you need anything."
Isolde slapped his hand and said angrily, "You don't know yet if it's a girl. What if it's a boy?"
Alaric winked at his mate and said, "I know it's going to be a daughter; I just know."
Ethan told Isolde, "I have a feeling that the Moon Goddess has definitely blessed you guys with a daughter. Alaric's wish is going to come true this time. I vote for a girl as well."
Isolde huffed, listening to the boys, and laughed. "I'll be the happiest if it’s a girl," she said.
"No, it will be me. I’ll love and pamper both of my girls so much that everyone will be jealous," Alaric laughed while walking out of the home.
Isolde decided to take a stroll to her favorite spot near the lake in the pack. She mind-linked Alaric and informed him of her whereabouts. It’s a beautiful spot a little far from the pack house, where the Alpha lives with his family. Most warriors train in the training ground to the left of the pack house, along with young kids after their school hours. The sun was about to set, and the sky was turning pink. As Isolde reached the lake, she breathed in the fresh air and felt the movements of the baby inside her tummy. Every time she’s here, the baby becomes active, as if it also loves this place as much as its mother does. Isolde is due any day soon. Now, she can feel the baby more prominently, and she also has a feeling that it’s going to be a girl. Thinking this, the corners of her lips curved into a beautiful smile. She looked at the sky and prayed to the Moon Goddess.
"Goddess, I trust your decision. Whether this is a boy or girl, we are going to love and take care of it, but I hope it’s a girl. I want to see the happiness on Alaric’s face and how he’s going to take care of his little daughter."
She went ahead and sat at her usual place under the tree, looking at the lake. The lake was situated in the center of the forest that belonged to the Sapphire Claw pack. It’s a huge lake with clear water and plenty of fish of different varieties. The bank of the lake is lined with various trees with flowers and fruits. The spot Isolde chose is a secret known only to her and her mate. They have been visiting this place since they became mates, and it’s their little secret place away from the world. They enjoy each other’s company and the beauty of nature here.
At the entrance of the pack house, Ethan and Alaric met Magnus, the gamma of the pack. The three then talked about how Isolde was doing and went inside. They reached the Alpha's office where Lucian was sitting in his chair. The office was quite large, with Alaric's chair and desk at the center near the wall. A huge portrait of his family hung on the wall behind his chair. Both sides of the room were lined with cupboards containing files related to the pack, and the top shelves held his favorite books. Lucian is a bookworm, but due to his Alpha duties, he isn't able to read much. In front of his desk, there were two chairs and a sofa in the corner of the office. A big pile of files sat on his desk.
As soon as he saw the trio, Lucian walked up to them and hugged Alaric, jokingly asking, "I thought you were dead since you've been irritating Isolde a lot. I was so worried about you, that I sent Ethan to look for you."
"Come on, Lucian, you know Isolde loves me too much to do something like that," Alaric replied to his dear friend.
"You never know, pregnancy hormones. Also, you've been annoying her a lot during this pregnancy, and Isolde is a strong woman," laughed Magnus. Alaric playfully hit Magnus on the shoulder.
Ethan was observing the three of them. Alaric, Lucian, and Magnus took power at the same time. They were best friends during their school days, and after their training was completed, Lucian was named Alpha of the pack. He chose Alaric as his Beta and Magnus as his Gamma. Since then, they’ve had each other’s backs in all types of situations and trust each other blindly. Nobody can break their friendship, and luckily all their mates get along nicely.
"Alpha, I'll take my leave then. I have submitted the file about the rogue situation and also updated the Beta and Gamma," Ethan told Lucian.
"Well, thank you, Ethan. You should also join our discussion and provide some input; it will help us a lot," Lucian said.
"No, Alpha. Beta and Gamma are here. The kids at the training ground have already started with their regular run. Their training is most important. I can't skip it, sorry. Due to the recent repeated rogue attacks, Alaric and Magnus have suggested that we should train our kids better and teach them to defend themselves and the younger ones in case of necessity," Ethan updated the Alpha.
"Yes, that's true, and it is a priority right now. All the best then. Go easy on the kids, though," Lucian said, smiling. Ethan nodded and left.
"He isn’t going easy on them. Ever since he heard about the Blue Fang pack's rogue attack, he's been very disturbed and has been training the kids regularly and vigorously," Magnus said.
Alaric huffed and said, "What happened with the Blue Fang pack is very unfortunate and sad, but they should have had better security. Rogues planned the attack, targeted children, and killed nearly 50 of them. The sight of that must have been horrific, and it’s such an unheard-of thing. Never before have rogues been this planned and systematic with their attacks."
"That's true. It's definitely suspicious how well-organized the attack was. Not only that, but after that incident, most of the packs in that region have faced more and more rogue attacks. Slowly, the southern region is also experiencing rogue attacks, and it's not a good sign," Lucian said.
"South has always been peaceful with very few rogue attacks, and all our neighboring packs are friendly, well-trained, and well-equipped—self-sufficient to handle the rogue attacks. Also, we help each other when necessary. We should be able to defend ourselves from any rogue attacks," Magnus said.
As if Magnus spoke too soon, something happened...
