Chapter 2
I was being hauled to the dance floor before I realized what was happening. I tried to keep up with Jake’s long, virile strides but my compact legs were no match. My cheeks burned as I jogged behind him in the Jimmy Choos, trying to match the pace. After fighting his way through the crowd, he came to an abrupt stop in the middle of the dance floor.
I was breathless.
He pulled me hard into him, knocking our bodies together.
My hips met the top of his thighs and my head brushed against his chin until my nose collided with his rock-solid chest. Tears sprang in the back of my eyes as I clutched the bridge of my nose. “Ow, that hurt!”
He held my cheeks in two hands and examined my face. His eyes were stern and his nostrils flared as he took in heavy breaths. “You’ll live.”
