Chapter One – The Collision
Rain poured over the city like it was trying to wash away every secret hidden in its shadows.
Inside the black Rolls-Royce, Damian Moretti sat in silence, the low hum of the engine the only sound that dared interrupt his thoughts. His sharp jaw clenched as his phone buzzed again.
> “It’s done, Boss,” a voice said through the speaker.
“Good,” Damian replied coldly. “No loose ends.”
He ended the call, sliding the phone into his pocket. To the world, Damian was the heir to the Moretti empire, a powerful business dynasty worth billions. But behind the glass walls and luxury penthouses, he was the ruthless head of an underground network — feared, respected, untouchable.
Until tonight.
A flash of white light blinded him, and before he could react, a figure stumbled into the middle of the road. He slammed the brakes, tires screaming.
The car skidded to a stop.
The door flew open, and Damian stepped out, his black coat whipping in the wind. On the ground was a woman, drenched and trembling, clutching a medical bag. Her eyes fluttered open — warm brown, full of innocence.
“Are you insane?” he snapped. “You could’ve gotten yourself killed.”
“I— I was just… crossing,” she stammered, standing on shaky legs. “You were driving like a maniac!”
He raised an eyebrow. No one ever spoke to him like that.
Her white coat clung to her like a second skin, the name embroidered on the chest reading: Dr. Elena Brooks.
“Doctor?” he asked, smirking. “You save lives by almost losing yours?”
She glared at him. “At least I have a life, Mr. ‘I-own-the-world.’”
Something in her tone made him pause. He wasn’t used to defiance — especially not from someone this… ordinary. Yet there was something about her. The fire in her voice. The way she didn’t flinch beneath his stare.
“Get in,” he said finally, opening the car door.
“I’m not getting in a stranger’s car,” she snapped.
He leaned closer, his voice a low, dangerous whisper. “Trust me, bella, I’m the stranger you’d rather know than cross.”
Despite every instinct telling her to walk away, she did get in — and that single decision would tie her life to his in ways she couldn’t imagine.
