Hope and Disappointment
Chapter 1:
Diamond, with her school bag slung over her shoulder, walked confidently towards the school gates. Excitement and hope gleamed in her eyes as she looked forward to a day of learning and new experiences. The warm sun peeked through the clouds, casting a gentle glow on the school grounds, filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers.
Julia, her mother, watched with a mix of pride and worry. Her mind flashed back to the accident that took her parents' lives, and the struggles she faced as an orphan. She pushed aside the memories and focused on Diamond's bright future. "You'll do great, baby," she said, her voice filled with encouragement.
But Diamond's excitement was short-lived. As she approached her classroom, the principal intercepted her, his expression grave. "Diamond, I'm afraid you won't be able to attend classes today... or until your school fees are paid in full." Diamond's face fell, and she felt a lump form in her throat.
She slowly made her way back home, her feet heavy with disappointment. Julia noticed her daughter's somber expression and immediately sensed something was wrong. "Hey, baby, what's wrong?" Julia asked, concern etched on her face.
Diamond took a deep breath and relayed the principal's message, her voice trembling. Julia's heart sank, but she refused to give up. She recalled the nightmares and anxiety that still lingered from the assault, but she pushed through the fear and stood tall.
"We'll figure something out, Diamond. We always do," Julia said, forcing a smile. Diamond nodded, her eyes welling up with tears. Julia enveloped her in a warm hug, holding her close as they both fought back tears.
