CHAPTER FOURTEEN

1091 Words
Ruby was shocked to see Naomi walk in with Stephan, she never expected her to be able to convince him that Ethan’s was his. The man was as beautiful as the last time she saw him. She stared at him lacking words to say “Hi, you must be the mother of the child?” Stephan asked. He recognised but he wanted to be sure. “Yes I am, my name is Ruby Qin” Ruby replied “Can I see the child?” “Yeah sure you can, this way please” Ruby led him into Ethan’s room, the baby was sleeping peacefully. “I heard from your friend that he is suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and he needs chemotherapy” “That’s true” Ruby replied as she nods “Well, like I told your friend I’m not sure the baby is mine but I won’t just sit and do nothing so I will pay for his treatment and then when he is okay, we will run a DNA test at the hospital of my choice, is that clear?” Ruby stared at him in disbelief, if he didn’t believe Ethan was his then why was he here? Does he think she sleeps around and then tries to pin the pregnancy on him? All these questions kept roaming in her mind and they made her feel hurt and less of a woman but she won’t let her pride get in the way of her son getting treated. “Crystal clear” she responded “Take me to the doctor so I can hear from him about the treatment plan and how to go about it” he ordered. Ruby was hesitant to be in the same space with him so she wanted to suggest that Naomi show him to the doctor while she watched over Ethan but her friend sensed what she was up to and beat her to it “Ruby would show you to the doctor’s office while I watch over Ethan,” she said as she winked at Ruby Feeling half-hearted, she led the way to the doctor’s office. As Ruby led him down the hallway towards the doctor's office, she couldn't refrain from stealing glances at him. Stephan walked as if he feared nothing, his tall frame and chiselled features attracting attention from people passing by. Ruby found herself captivated by his presence, even more so now that he had shown a willingness to step up for Ethan. But she couldn't overcome her hesitations; there were so many questions she needed answers to. As they got close to the door of the doctor's office, Ruby halted for a moment, her hand lying over the doorknob. Stephan noticed her hesitation and how she had been stealing glances at him. “Is there a problem?” he asked with a smile. He loved the fact that he had an impact on her. “Yes- I mean No. I just can’t seem to wrap my head around the fact that you are willing to help save Ethan despite your doubt about being his father. Don’t get me wrong I appreciate what you are doing but I find it...” “Weird?” Stephan asked “No, uncommon” Ruby corrected “Well I won’t forgive myself if anything happens to him and he turns out to be mine so it's better to be safe than sorry” Stephan explained Ruby nodded at his explanation and then knocked on the doctor’s office door “Come in” a voice shouted from inside the office. Ruby twisted the door nob and pushed the door open. “Hello, Ms Qin” the doctor stood up to greet her. He recognised the man standing behind Ruby as Stephan Rodriguez the billionaire heir. Why it was here? He was a fan of Stephan’s but he didn’t want to embarrass himself so he tried so hard to comport himself and wait for an introduction. “Please sit” he offered them a seat “Are you ready for Ethan to commence treatment?” He asked in a professional tone “Well, that’s why we are here. This is Stephan Rodriguez and he is here to take care of the bills but he would love to hear from you about the treatment plan” Ruby explained. She noticed the doctor’s eyes lit up immediately after Stephan entered the room “Hello Mr Rodriguez, I’m Doctor Evans the doctor in charge. What would you like to know about the treatment plan? “I would like to know how effective it is and what the potential side effects are,” Stephan responded, his voice confident yet tinged with concern. Dr. Evans nodded understandingly and began explaining the treatment plan in detail. He outlined the chemotherapy sessions Ethan would need, as well as the expected duration and possible risks associated with the treatment. Stephan absorbed every piece of information, his expression growing more serious with each passing moment. Ruby watched him closely, her heart swelling with gratitude that he was taking an active interest in Ethan’s well-being. As Stephan asked thoughtful questions and engaged in a genuine conversation with Dr Evans, Ruby couldn’t help but feel her heart flicker for a bit. “So can he start immediately?” Stephan asked “Sure all you have to do is make payment and then leave the rest to us” the doctor said with a smile “How and where do I pay?” The doctor called on a nurse to take them to the financial service department where they could lead them through the payment channel. They followed the nurse to make payment so Ethan could start immediately. After making payment and filling out the necessary forms, Stephan left the hospital. Ruby escorted him out of the hospital and watched him drive off before returning to the room “Has he gone?” Naomi asked curiously “Yes he has” “I never knew he was so nice, I always thought he was a jerk turns out I was wrong” “True, he acts different than I thought he would, he is a typical example of the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover” Ruby agreed with her friend “So...” Naomi started “So what?” Ruby cut off Naomi’s. She knows her friend very well so she knows where the conversation is heading to “Is there still a chance Ethan can have both parents together?” Naomi asked.
