24: SILENT SORROW & CLARITY

1988 Words
“YOU DON’T KNOW THE PAIN THAT I’M CARRYING UP TILL NOW!” Lemar roared in anger causing the walls to vibrate. “You right I don’t.” Welhima was not backing down even though she shivered from it. “THEN SHUT THE f**k UP IF YOU DON’T KNOW ANYTHING.” He growled in pain and his tears could not be stopped anymore. They kept falling until Lemar opened up something to her. “I’m trying to understand how wolves work around mates…I admit that I starting to love her even though I’m still in pain from what I’ve lost…” “Lemar, I just…” she had never seen a male cry before particularly, seeing Lemar in his vulnerable state. She was used to seeing him firm and intimidating hunter. “I’ve lost not just the guild, I’ve lost my heart and life when I lost my lover and my unborn child. I never mourned or cried for them then I died only to wake up being a wolf shifter and your sister happened…” Welhima felt the pain that he was carrying when he spoke of what he had lost before. “Everything comes so fast…my heart kept falling for her but my mind is still disturbed whenever I remember that painful past…I don’t want to lose it again, Welhima…” “Lemar, I’m sorry if I open your old wounds…” she sincerely apologized as she gave him a supporting embrace that she thought Lemar needed. “It’s okay you didn’t know…I just need to control this pain again. I have to keep it together so I fall apart. I don’t want to lose my heart again, Welhima.” With a sad smile, he pulled away from the hug and admitted what scared him. “I will heal myself knowing she’s there for me because she’s worthy, Welhima but when she said that…I don’t know what exactly I need to feel. I just…don’t know…” “Lemar, I may not understand what you feel since I’m still a mateless wolf shifter but I can understand the pain when I see one. But let me tell you this, love is broad, Lemar, but in a relationship between lovers, it takes two to tango - you two have to talk sincerely to make it work. To make it last.” Welhima honestly felt the pain that he was carrying and gave him some piece of advice that might be able to help him get through it. “If you have to be naked in front of her do it. Yours and her secrets will only belong to the both of you.” “In time but for now, I have to change.” Lemar smiled sadly before he dropped and changed the subject. “Dianne is there and she’s improving.” “I can tell.” Welhima smiled softly at him. “See you around, brother-in-law.” “See yah.” He said and walked back to his mate’s bedroom. Lemar walked around the mansion and saw how quiet and peaceful the pack of the Moonstar was. He smiled recalling those times when the hunter guild was still small and emitted the same vibe before. It was a great and fun time even though it was hectic. “Would you help me to find a new way Would you guide me through all this again Don't let me slip away I need you here till the very end…” Lemar sang a part of the song My Escape by Ravenscode as he glanced to the sky where the dawn was breaking already. “But you’re gone and won’t be able to do it again.” He proceeded on his way without realizing that there was a particular white-haired witch who heard his silent pain, his mate, Jennie Sage. ‘This is the reason why I have to decline it. You need to heal more.’ When he got back, Lemar entered the room and heard some sneezing coming out from the bathroom followed by a groan. Jennie Sage was drying her hair while only being covered with bathrob looking fresh even more. Lemar was frozen in his spot while staring at the beauty that his mate was having. He stared with so much affection and pain before he snapped himself from doing it openly. ‘Why I’m staring like that?’ Lemar wondered to himself with a sigh escaping from his lips which he also forgot that his mate could hear him. Jennie turned and carefully watched Lemar go to get some spare clothes in the same wardrobe before asking. “Are you okay? Where have you been?” “Yeah, I just blew up some streams and trained Dianne a little bit.” Lemar honestly answered. “I see, I just didn't see you around the room that’s why I asked.” She hummed and went to the bedside drawer to pick up something. “Okay.” he coldly responded causing Jennie to shiver. “Lemar.” She called and he just hummed in response before she asked again. “Are you really okay?” “I am.” he simply replied. Jennie could not shake the feeling that her guts were telling her that he was not fine at all. “Are you sure about that?” Lemar sighed before facing her, “Yeah, why you asked?” then flatly answered. “I felt it. There was something bothering you that you’re not telling. You know that you can tell me about it. So, feel free to do so...” She softly said but she started sneezing again. “Argh, even though your scent still irritates me. Gosh.” Lemar chuckled a little. He knew then that he could not lie or even hide things from his mate and just answer her. “Ah well, there is and it hurts which I didn’t realize that I’m holding too much to the point I cried it out on your sister.” Something ticked on Jennie when she heard that and she didn’t like what she was feeling until she snapped as she shouted at him. “YOU DID WHAT?!” She was jealous and Lemar jolted from that sudden tone that she used. Jennie saw that and sighed before waving her hand. “Why are you shouting?” he wondered worriedly since he was not sure if she hurt her or something else. “Well, it was nothing…” She just waved it off and tried to drop the subject but Lemar wasn’t buying it at all. “It doesn’t sound like it was nothing.” He curiously said making Jennie sternly look at him before sighing in defeat. “Fine, it may sound petty but you confined on my sister instead of me?” she sounded like she was pouting and started speaking fast. “Why? Am I that frightening to you because I can hurt you with my ability, is that why?” “No, it’s nothing like that…” Lemar tried to answer but Jennie kept talking to herself. Lemar was confused but hearing his mate speak to herself openly, he found himself fascinated by it. He was smirking while listening attentively instead of interrupting her from ranting whatever she had in her. “You’re scared of me because I can kill you with one touch. Well, what do I expect, everyone is scared of me because of my ability to suck life essence…of course, you are the same…” She looks distraught and panicking while biting her thumb. Lemar found it cute but Jennie still apologized. “Sorry, if you had a mate like me…” When she apologized, something cut in Lemar’s heart. He didn’t like it all. “Why are you apologizing for, Sage?” Jennie didn’t hear him and kept on speaking. “…you can reject me anytime you want but please make it quick since I don’t want to love you even more than I already am.” She was having teary eyes as she was trying to be tough and control her emotions from breaking down in front of her mate. Lemar felt the pain causing him to go closer to her and hugged her to calm down before looking deeply into her eyes. He was making sure that she was calm. “What are you talking about, my love?” he might be confused about what she was saying but he was more worried. “What?” she snapped from her overwhelming emotion and looked confused when she heard that question. Lemar sighed before smiling. “I’m not scared about your ability. I’m fascinated by it. And why would I reject you when I was the one who felt it when you declined our marriage.” “So you’re not rejecting me because of it?” she carefully wondered while trying to hide the fact that her heart was feeling warm upon hearing it. “No, not at all. What bothers me was your declining on your marriage, it felt like rejecting me indirectly when you said that.” He cleared what’s making him act like a cold jerk around her lately. “So, that’s why you went cold and acted like I didn’t exist in your life…” She sighed in relief, “...and I did decline to marry you…” and was about to explain her reason for saying it but Lemar growled at her. “Don’t slap it on my face.” he was annoyed from hearing her rejection again. “I’m not done yet so, don’t finish my word if you don’t know what I’m about to say.” Jennie sternly said causing Lemar to shiver. “Go on then and tell me about it.” He let Jennie finish what she was trying to say to him. “I declined to marry you for now. I’d rather marry you when it's right…” she started on explaining. “What do you mean ‘when it’s right’?” he wondered. “Lemar, let me finish first before you can ask or say anything to me, okay?” she might have sounded calm but it held some annoyance beneath it. “Noted. Go on.” He slightly chuckled and let his mate proceed. “Alright, Babe, you know that I am a witch and before I met you, I know what you’ve been through already. I’ve seen them and I feel the pain that you’ve been carrying when you lost your guild and the person you ever love including your unborn child. I know them.” Jennie pulled Lemar to sit beside her when she started explaining to him her reasons for declining their marriage. “Just because of it?” Lemar forgot his words and asked immediately. “Lemar.” She warned him. “What?” he asked innocently. Jennie sighed and sternly reminded him what they’d talked about before she could start explaining things to him. “I told you not to speak until I’m done, remember?” “Oh, sorry. Continue.” He shyly smiled and let Jennie continue. “Due to what you’ve been through and the sudden changes that happened to you, I have to let you adjust to a new life that the Moon has given you. You’re one of the rarest hunters or humans whose the Moon gave chances to shift into a wolf. I have to be patient and wait for you to get used to them and I don’t mind it.” She continued but Lemar was about to say something when Jennie sternly looked at him again. “I’m not done yet, so let me speak.” “I have to let you adjust to your new life around here and let you heal from what caused you great pain.” She went on to tell her reasons while Lemar listened to them attentively.
