Yua spoke with the king, their conversation went on for a whole day. It would have to be a serious topic to speak that long just for defeating some monsters in the guild. After a few more hour as night hit the sky my sister emerges from the kings thrown room, with complete composure she states "We will own a home in this city by the Kings request and we will be taken care of by the kingdom until next month comes. After that you will be on your own as I have taken a quest from the king himself, I will train you to use a knife properly within the month so you can get by."
She refused to go any deeper into the topic, she left me in the dark on purpose.
I didn't like how everything was progressing. My sister started giving me very aggressive training. We hadn't gone to the guild since the day we signed up, and i was told that when the month Yua departs She will choose someone from the guild to watch over me. For a whole month I've been training, while Yua went to the guild doing request to ensure that I have money for when she leaves. I don't know what quests she was taking but they were dangerous, she'd come back with blood stains on her clothes and the strong smell and aura of high tier monsters. The king assigned guards to our home so I wasn't able to even sneak out, but one night a week before Yua leaves, I managed to sneak out without the guards noticing and I ran to the other side of the city. Ever since my sister left the kings thrown room I wasn't given a break to think. I was doing chores. Calculating Yua money she got from quests. Training. Eating. Sleeping. It felt very intentional that I was given all these tasks by my sister, not to mention she's also been heavily avoiding me. The king is probably planning something horrible and because he has power my sister can't do anything, or they found out about Yua's magic and their sending her to a great mage to do training. I have very little information on what's going on so I can't even make proper judgement. "Am I going to loose Yua?" The thought crosses my mind as tears begin running down my face.
I'm in the dark and alone, my sister is actively avoiding me, I'm constantly doing some form of exercise or chore. The tears start pouring out now, I try wiping them away but they just keep coming, the thought of loosing Yua is finally hitting me, my only family member in two life's is about to leave me alone in this world. The things we've been through together, I don't want to go through life alone and worse case scenario she doesn't come back from where she is going. I'm not ready for anything like that, I just started being happy and now that's being ripped away from me, she is walking out of my life.
The day of her departure I gave her a hug filled with all my emotions I've carried, I really didn't want her to leave. What hurt me was, she didn't hug me back. Instead she pushed me away and and left me there on the ground in tears, her eyes were like the time after our parents deaths. Just full of hatred, she didn't want anything to do with me.
"How could you break your promise for protecting me!!!"
I scream to her, but she doesn't hesitate in getting in the carriage. No one to reassure that she will come back. No one I can trust to take care of her. She left on her own journey without me, her little brother.
Year. After year, after year after year after year. She never came back. Before I knew it I turned 17, my sister was gone for 12 years. I neglected my training, I couldn't even do quests to get money. I had lost my purpose, my life was at the edge as I didn't even take care of my needs well enough. I spent most of my days in town watching families walking by all happy like, this was the closest I had to experiencing the feeling of family. On one of the days I saw a sister and brother running through the town with bright smiles on their faces, i may have lost everything. But. What I have left is still a life. Unlike in my old life my body can still move. No I won't waste my second chance at life, I lost my sister but I can't hold onto her forever. I went home and found my guild card from when I first signed up, I plan to take charge of my life so I'll take my first quest and earn my place.
The guild was extremely busy, I was just barely able to grab a single quest off the bulletin board. I couldn't be picky as there are different boards for all ranks. I handed the paper to the receptionist and he told me I can't go on the quest without a party of 2 or more. The rank on the paper was the same as my rank but the difficulty called for more members. I told him to set a party request up for me, only for one member. As that was being setup i over heard a group talk about weird dungeons appearing everywhere, all the strong monster have been spawning in them. Only the weak monsters can leave the dungeons so the requests for clearing the small ones but if a dungeon is left out for too long the monsters inside can get stronger and may even break out of the dungeon causing havoc. When I got back to what I was doing I realised the quest I took was a dungeon clearance task, I understand why I need another person, but I want to bring my skills up in combat so having someone there will hinder me so i just want whoever joins me to fill the spot to make a party as I take care of all the work.
And because it's my life I'm going to use my magic even if people see me, if people come to harm me I will put up a fight, I promise myself I will be strong enough to protect myself. This is a promise I am able to keep as I can work on my strength. The quest I took was time sensitive so a couple hours later I was met with my temporary party member outside the dungeon. She is of beastkin, her hair and fur is white with black spots, she has a tail that is fairly skinny but long. Her skin was tanned and her iris is a deep blue with a constant aggressive look in her eyes.
"The names Elinoy, call me Eli or lin-lin."
Her introduction was fairly short so I take it she doesn't like talking much. So I give my name "Kokoro Inugami," I then tell her to leave the dungeon to me. She was surprised to hear that we are going in the dungeon as a party of two, as dungeons are still a mystery to everyone so the risk is high. This didn't matter to me so I entered anyways, this was supposedly a dungeon filled with slime and spiders. This was a perfect chance for me to test magics effectiveness on monsters, even though my past years were uneventful I still gathered mana over time so I have an abundance of leeway when fighting with magic. I tried using earth and fire but it didn't work much on slimes, then i used ice on them which made it easier to kill them they have a core but it is very slippery making it tough to hit, especially with the length of my knife, and fire for the spiders was highly effective on their threads as they don't burn for too long and don't emit a smoke. Leaving them open for attacks. If the elements I use on certain monsters has a greater effect then I might be able to grab more battle conduct and experience. I'll be able to fight stronger monsters at this rate, I might even be able to go up a rank. No no no, I'm getting ahead of myself, I need to focus on improving my status and finding a purpose for me to follow.
"Eeerm, Koko." Elinoy says with curiosity.
Hmm her full name is too long I'll rather use lin-lin. "I'm guessing your curious about the magic I just used?"
She nods vigorously, magic is still pretty rare huh? Well I can tell her that I learnt magic myself and do not plan on teaching, I told her but I will not actively teach her how to use it. I gave her all the information on magic and mana that I know, she looked inspired but that's none of my concern. To my knowledge the quest is done and we can go our separate ways, I don't plan on tutoring a kid.
"I'm not a kid!! I'll have you know I'm 18 already!!"
Oops I said that out loud, wait-wait-wait she's older than me???? Her looks are very deceiving, oh no, female beastkin develop at a slower rate than human females so it makes sense why she looks so young, but to me she's still a kid as I've lived quite the lives. "I don't plan on hanging around so I'm going to head to the guild to get the reward."
The receptionist gave me 10 silver for the quest, not worth it for any beginner. They then proceeded to tell me to read the new rule change on the notice board, and they changed the rules that if you take any dungeon or monster quest it is mandatory to have a party of 2 or more members. Lin-lin had just received her portion of the reward and said to me, "see you next quest partner." I don't have to work with her specifically but I don't want over the top attention within my quests so I have to accept this, ugh just when I was planning on going solo.
