Mara stared at the name on the screen.
She read it three times.
Each time it said the same thing.
Each time it meant the same thing.
She looked up at Caius.
His face had gone completely still. Not the controlled stillness of a man managing his reaction. The stillness of a man whose reaction had stopped before it started because what he was looking at did not make sense yet.
He looked at the screen.
Then at her.
"That is not possible," he said quietly.
"It is on the file," she said.
"I know it is on the file," he said. "I am saying it is not possible."
Zane had not spoken.
She looked at him.
He was looking at the screen with an expression she had not seen on him before.
Not the warmth.
Not the steadiness.
